Chapter 657
Chapter 38: The Candidates for Saints
The Church’s warship.
This trip, the Church from the Eastern Continent came to White Harbor not only for the matter of the Saint’s Trial, but also to showcase the Church’s might and promote the goddess’s teachings.
Thus, the grand fleet included both the high-ranking nobility of the Church and the Temple Knights, making for an unprecedented display.
However, they didn’t get to show off much before a letter from the White Harbor Church on the Western Continent slapped them right in the face.
In a lavish room, a stunning girl draped in a white holy robe read the letter and scoffed coldly.
“The highest gifted candidate for a saint in history, with a Holy Light affinity surpassing the Eastern Continent’s prodigy? Hmph, has the West Continent’s pathetic lot sunk this low in self-deception?”
The girl had luxurious golden hair, and her nun’s attire was anything but simple; it was adorned with jewels that sparkled like stardust, exuding extreme extravagance.
She was the candidate for a saint who made countless men from the Eastern Continent willing to grovel at her feet, 【Eye of Light】Oroya.
After crumpling the letter into a ball, she stuffed it beneath herself.
The man serving as her “human seat” promptly opened his mouth and swallowed the letter.
Aside from the “seat,” a few handsome young men were busy fixing her hair, massaging her shoulders, and licking her boots. All of them were blindfolded with white cloth, not allowed to glimpse her true form without her permission.
Oroya mercilessly placed her boot on the head of one of the men, a wicked smirk on her face: “However, I’ve heard that the saintly guards from the West Continent are pretty decent looking. Might be nice to keep one as a pet to play with.”
“To be selected as a saintly guard, that’s supposed to be the best of the best in the West. Yet even then, they’re only good enough to be pets? You’re really pushing it, you know?”
Across from Oroya, a brown-haired young man, nonchalantly dressed and with messy hair—clearly just coming from some group activity—poured himself a glass of red wine and raised a letter as well.
If Oroya was the dream girl of countless men from the Eastern Continent, 【Flower Boy】Jay was the idol that girls dream about, being another candidate for sainthood.
Together, they represented the most dazzling sights of the Eastern Continent.
But that was just the surface.
In private, their lives were anything but holy.
“I’m a bit interested in the saintess candidate from White Harbor,” Jay cleared his throat, pretending to be surprised. “Oh, I heard she has beauty that surpasses even the 【Eye of Light】…”
“That’s disgusting.” Oroya didn’t hide her disdain for her companion, “Just because you can’t have me, you go after other blonde girls?”
“Playing with a girl’s heart and body like that? You’ll be cursed by the goddess for sure.”
This woman was as irritating as ever.
Jay thought to himself, disapproving of his companion as he smirked sarcastically: “At least I let the girls taste some sweetness, unlike your cold heart.”
“Are you kidding? A lowly man is no different from a dog. Just the thought of them touching me is revolting!”
As the two argued, a woman in silver heavy armor interrupted with a stern voice: “Enough!”
“Both of you, regardless of what you do in private, don’t reveal your embarrassingly ‘elegant’ tastes to the public on this trip to the West Continent.”
After her mocking words, the knight surveyed the duo, unable to refrain from shaking her head.
One of the candidates for sainthood, 【Battle Nun】Visalia, was among the few candidates maintaining a good reputation, acting as one should in public.
“Let alone the saint candidates from the West, at the very least, the saintly guards are not to be underestimated.” Underneath her armor, Visalia’s gaze sharpened: “The 【Iron-Blood】 knights from the Ainbrad family are famous. Their descendants must be as brave as the rumors say.”
“Don’t blame me for not warning you.”
However, both of them scoffed at her warning, paying no mind whatsoever.
“What are you pretending for? Let’s be honest, you want to seduce outstanding men as well; you just go about it differently.”
“Visalia, once you experience the pleasures between men and women, you’ll understand what true enjoyment is.”
Hopeless individuals, why do these people receive the Holy Light’s favor…
Having been twisted beyond recognition, Visalia couldn’t be bothered to argue and simply shut her mouth.
The last candidate for sainthood, 【Child of Light】Sang, remained calm and collected, gazing out the window, showing no intention of joining the discussion.
However, the white-robed swordsman beside him, after reading the letter, chuckled coldly and tossed it into the fire.
Theoretically, no matter how high the honor, a saintly guard still just remained a guard.
Above the masses, yet still below the candidates for saints.
The three candidates’ guards were all waiting outside, and without a summons, they weren’t allowed to enter or intrude.
But the 【Child of Light】’s guard was different; he held a status equal to the other candidates.
The Chief of the Temple Knights, Levi, was the sword saint’s protégé.
He was also one of the strongest alongside the 【Child of Light】 among the younger generation of the Eastern Continent.
Thus, Levi’s words dripped with innate arrogance.
“Ridiculous, at the end of the day, the Ainbrad family is just a silver-tier bloodline. They’re simply unworthy to be our opponents.”
“Saint candidates, saintly guards? Just because you share a title doesn’t mean you can be compared to us?”
“Don’t make me laugh, this is nothing short of an insult!”
Levi lifted his head, glancing back and forth between the two.
“Oroya, Jay, go wild.”
“Whether you keep them as pets or toy with them at will, let the so-called geniuses of the West Continent realize what it truly means to be the cherished of the Holy Light, to understand the gap between us.”
With their permission, the duo couldn’t help but reveal either sinister or cruel smirks.
Visalia shook her head discreetly; even as the second-in-command of the Temple Knights, she couldn’t rebuke the order of the chief.
Meanwhile…
On deck, the gentle white-robed young man, 【Archbishop Simon】had long been aware of everyone’s plans through secret techniques.
Beside him, the gray-haired sword saint raised an eyebrow slightly, having overheard the conversation.
“Are you sure you want to let them mess around? Your Highness wishes to acquire the destined one, not to wage war against her.”
“Sir, you worry too much; I have my own measures.”
Simon smiled lightly, but his gaze seemed indifferent and detached, twinkling with shifting lights.
“The fireflies of the mortal realm cannot extinguish the brilliance of the destined; they can only highlight its splendor.”
“If she truly is the destined one, this level of hardship should be a piece of cake for her.”
As the warship sailed on, the outline of White Harbor gradually came into view.
Archbishop Simon slightly raised the corners of his mouth, revealing an expression of anticipation.
“Let me see if this so-called destined one is worth entrusting our great aspirations to.”
