Chapter 51

Chapter 51: Isn’t That Adorably Barbaric?

Roy’s expression became quite odd.

Failing to keep a promise in front of a lady was a huge blemish; how could anyone possibly take pride in that?

But looking at Charlotte’s earnest face, she didn’t seem to be mocking him at all.

While Roy was still processing this, Charlotte was passionately recounting her observations.

“You might not realize this, but your actions have significantly changed your reputation in noble circles!”

How big of a change?!

Roy almost choked on the spot.

Does this mean everyone knows he broke his promise? That’s beyond embarrassing?!

But then Charlotte’s next words only left him more confused.

“For those who were bullied by Ryan, you’ve avenged them. For the discerning elders, your tactful way of handling things has also been recognized. Even those who despise you have to admit that you’re no longer that useless scoundrel! You don’t even know how many young ladies secretly…”

Charlotte paused briefly, “Admire your actions in silence!”

Just thinking about the flirty comments those young ladies made about Roy made Charlotte feel a bit annoyed, and she wouldn’t dare tell him about it.

But she wanted Roy to understand that the promise made under the sunset that day had begun to bear fruit.

Roy’s efforts weren’t wasted, and he definitely didn’t need to feel apologetic.

“This is all Ryan’s fault. That’s why Ryan was thrown into a cell, and his worthless lackeys were sent packing from the villa. Meanwhile, you remain unscathed.”

“This proves that in their eyes, you’re no longer that scoundrel who could be compared to Ryan Raymond!”

Charlotte’s eyes sparkled, and she spoke with such enthusiasm, as if she were the one who defeated Ryan.

But Roy didn’t quite get it.

I understand the reasoning, and I’m happy too.

But what does that have to do with me breaking my promise?!

Once Charlotte finally finished, Roy couldn’t hold back any longer and asked her, “I’m a bit lost; what exactly are you trying to say?”

Weren’t we talking about dancing?

“Huh?” Charlotte stared at him in disbelief.

Her red skirt and wine-red high heels couldn’t help but fidget impatiently.

How annoying; didn’t he understand her even after she said all that?

Hmm, maybe she should be more straightforward?

Charlotte suddenly remembered the flirty chit-chat from those noble girls at the ball and stumbled over her words.

‘He’s so handsome’ ‘Nice build’ ‘What a catch’ ‘Oh, let’s invite him to spend a lovely evening at my place next time’

How could she possibly say such shameless things out loud?!

Charlotte might be assertive, but that also made her somewhat inexperienced with guys and a bit innocent.

She was rich in theoretical knowledge but had zero practical experience. She’d never even held a guy’s hand, let alone know how to express her feelings to one.

But she didn’t want to remain stagnant.

Roy being recognized by others was a good thing, but it would also attract more flirty girls to him.

Besides, setting those women aside, there was also a maid named Alice serving him.

The affectionate interactions between them made Charlotte, who had always been pampered and gifted, feel a twinge of envy for the very first time.

Seeing the puzzled look on Roy’s face, she didn’t want to back down now. A mysterious excitement in her chest finally overcame her innocence and fear.

She wanted Roy to know that she recognized him.

“I think standing up for others is brave and a sign of a noble knight. At the same time, your tact and poise in the face of power show you’re not a brute and that you haven’t lost the dignity that comes with being a noble. So, that means…”

Charlotte lifted her head, squinting her eyes and secretly studying Roy’s expression.

She thought her praise was already quite direct.

But she didn’t expect Roy to furrow his brow and look even more confused!

Roy had his own principles.

The whole Ryan incident was a separate issue; it had nothing to do with him breaking his promise.

Breaking a promise to a girl was bad enough, but receiving praise for it was just plain weird, right?!

“But even if you say that, I still owe you an apology for tonight, right?”

Charlotte’s mouth twitched, and she lowered her head.

Her young shoulders trembled slightly, her high heels swayed back and forth, and she looked like a volcano ready to erupt.

Meanwhile, Roy kept going: “So…”

“So I just want to say, you don’t need to apologize at all! Because you’re a brave knight! What you did today was totally right—no matter what others say, at least I’m on your side! Also, you looked really cool defeating Ryan tonight, and you handled yourself wonderfully in front of the elders, so why the long face? What a waste?!”

Charlotte suddenly lifted her head, throwing aside all notions of restraint, and let out all the feelings she had been holding back like a volcano erupting.

After a long moment, she finally sighed and glanced over with a pout, “Did you understand now?”

Roy nodded dumbly, but his face was serious.

How to put it…

Charlotte was so supportive of him, which was great and made him a bit embarrassed.

But that still didn’t answer his lingering confusion!

While Charlotte was catching her breath, Roy finally couldn’t help but ask cautiously, “So, what does everything you said have to do with me breaking my dance promise?”

“…?”

“I really appreciate your support. But I still want to say, I’m sorry for breaking my promise tonight and not being able to dance with you.”

“…You were talking about the dance?”

“…Wasn’t I?”

Charlotte sighed softly, then picked up a bottle of red wine and poured herself a glass, elegantly raising it before downing it all in one go.

What on earth did she just say in front of him?!!!!!!

‘Brave knight’ ‘I’m on your side’ ‘So cool, so cool, so cool’

Charlotte covered her scorching face with one hand, but her other hand couldn’t hide the flush creeping on her neck and earlobes.

At that moment, Charlotte wanted to die!

In contrast, Roy was simply having a moment of realization.

Ah, no wonder they weren’t on the same page; they hadn’t even started in the same topic!

But if that’s the case, what was Charlotte trying to say…

Seeing Roy start to process her embarrassing comments, Charlotte instantly blew up, flames of extraordinary power flickering from her red hair, and with teary eyes, she glared fiercely at him, “Forget it! Just forget everything I said earlier!”

“Okay, okay, okay.” Roy waved his hands, a playful smile spreading across his face.

She clearly wanted to compliment him but ended up going in such a roundabout way.

That princess really is quite adorable!
