Chapter 482
Chapter 29: Being a Teacher
A few days after the final written exam ended, it was finally the day for the results to be announced.
In the school square, a giant and eye-catching notice board stood tall.
Students and teachers from all grades flocked to the scene, some looked worried, others were overly excited, and many were craning their necks, trying to squeeze forward to find their scores.
Roy looked at the crowded spectacle with a hint of helplessness and eventually chose to hang back at the edge of the crowd.
Most of the people at the edge were those who ranked low and needed tutoring; they were too ashamed to verify their scores, and the atmosphere was visibly gloomy.
That troublemaker with brown hair, Mark, who always picked on him, was also slouching his shoulders, looking dejected and lacking his usual energy.
He glanced over weakly but managed a bitter smile: “You look pretty optimistic.”
“I know what I’m talking about; it won’t be too bad,” Roy shrugged.
He felt he had done well in last night’s exam; the questions weren’t difficult. At the very least, he wouldn’t fail.
However, Mark shook his head, a mix of jealousy and envy on his face, and said in a low voice, “Well, sure, you noble kids must have some connections to get your grades changed. It can’t be too bad for you, right?”
Roy couldn’t be bothered to explain anything to him.
Using connections could at most secure a passing grade. There were plenty of nobles in the academy besides him; if he used his connections, others wouldn’t be pleased!
Besides, what he cared about wasn’t just the scores, but the fate-altering moments.
We carry different burdens, you know?
If you mess up, it’s just your personal issue, but if I mess up, it could cost lives, okay?!
In the original story, the reason “bad boy Roy” was kicked out of the academy wasn’t just because he abused Alice and had poor overall grades, but more importantly, because he used connections to cheat during the final exam and got caught by Xue Nuo, leaving a terrible impression on the heroine.
Xue Nuo certainly wouldn’t go easy on an irredeemable scoundrel.
But after several days of tutoring, Roy was confident he could turn around Xue Nuo’s negative impression of him. As for the score itself, he didn’t care too much.
Of course, high scores would be best.
After all the effort he put in, who doesn’t want to ace the exam?
Recalling the silver-haired girl’s hopeful and encouraging gaze the night before the exam, Roy couldn’t help but look up at the notice board.
Getting a high score would also help turn the fate-altering moment around.
As more and more people gathered, besides the students, some teachers came to congratulate or scold the students.
Enwei huddled in the corner, watching his colleagues either smiling at students or scolding, encouraging, or criticizing them, but he seemed utterly uninterested.
For him, it was merely a job.
Good scores meant extra money for him; that’s all. He had no interest in getting involved with these pesky kids after the exam.
Until he spotted the black-haired boy.
Roy Ainbrad, the culprit behind his punishment by Xue Nuo.
This guy was actually on the outermost fringe? Oh right, he recalled his scores weren’t great, and he even needed to attend tutoring.
Heh, weren’t you so puffed up before? Can’t feel so smug now, huh?!
Enwei immediately cracked a grin, stuffed his hands in his pockets, and quickly strode over.
He didn’t dare to go head-to-head with the lead teacher Xue Nuo, nor did he usually have the nerve to pick on the Marquis’s son Roy without a reason.
But as the saying goes?
A submerged phoenix isn’t as good as a chicken!
At least today, as a teacher, it was only fair to lecture a student with failing grades!
“Roy, long time no see. Why don’t you step up and take a look? Could it be your scores aren’t good?”
Before Roy could respond, Enwei deepened his tone: “Didn’t I tell you to keep a good attitude and study hard? Now you regret it? Where were you before?”
Seeing the unkind tone, Roy felt somewhat perplexed.
Uh, who do you think you are?
You’re not my teacher; why should my scores concern you?
Crazy, right?
Roy turned his head, too lazy to talk to him, and continued to search for his score.
This nonchalant attitude made Enwei’s face darken.
“Roy, I advise you to show some respect!”
“Or are you saying you can’t even respect your teachers? Bad exam scores are one thing, but can’t you correct your attitude?” Enwei arrogantly lifted his chin and sneered, “No wonder you hang out with the tutoring class’s bottom feeders! People say you used to be a scoundrel, but you’ve changed, huh? Nah, you’re still just mud that can’t stick to the wall!”
Enwei’s gaze swept around, not bothering to conceal his disdain.
Mark and the others hung their heads in shame, fists clenched in anger, but they were powerless and too intimidated to retort, totally submissive.
More and more students began to notice the scene, but they didn’t know what was happening and didn’t dare step in.
“Why is Teacher Enwei clashing with Roy?”
“It seems he’s lecturing him for his poor grades.”
“Nonsense! Our princess is one of the top ten students, how could the Knight of the Oath have bad grades?!”
“Hold on; it looks like Roy did indeed go to tutoring.”
“Uh, well…”
Reviving the sense of superiority of being a teacher from the fearful and shrinking gazes of the students, Enwei’s smile deepened.
What nobles, prodigies, or limitless extraordinary beings? A bunch of snot-nosed brats who can’t do anything in front of him! He could tear into them without a second thought!
“If you ask me, you deserve it! Always lost in frivolity and pleasure, lacking ambition and letting your studies go to waste! Only now, when you’re in this situation, do you realize you should regret it!”
“Look at you—stuck with those girls who’ve never seen the world! Just a little master who knows how to sweet-talk. Do you really think you’re something special…”
As Enwei was getting into his rhythm, the black-haired boy sighed impatiently and turned to look back.
His face showed no anger or fear, just a hint of mild annoyance.
And a trace of blatant disdain.
“Calm down; don’t you think you look ridiculous?”
“…What did you say?”
“Tsk. I accidentally let slip the truth.” The boy muttered to himself and then squeezed out a smile, saying politely, “Could you please shut up and step aside? You’re making too much noise.”
Enwei opened his mouth to retort, but Roy raised a finger and mutely mouthed, “If you want to stay in the academy, don’t annoy me, got it?”
He’d checked Enwei’s background long ago.
No backing, and he’d been penalized multiple times for breaking rules; he was no good bird.
As a noble, it wouldn’t be hard to use connections to kick such a slacker out of the academy. It could attract criticism from other nobles or leave a bad impression of the academy, but Enwei himself was powerless to retaliate.
A smart guy should be able to figure out the risks and retreat in time.
However, Enwei was blinded by rage and pointed at Roy, seething.
“You, what did you say?!”
“You little punk, do you dare to threaten me? This is a sacred magic academy, don’t think your family background lets you act however you want!”
“Damn it! You failing bottom feeder, I kindly warned you, and you, you dare to be ungrateful…”
At this moment, a low and cold rebuke, like the chill of a northern wind, echoed back and froze Enwei’s agitation.
“Teacher Enwei, getting angry and cursing is not how a true teacher should behave.”
The silver-haired girl with the build of a silver wolf had appeared without anyone noticing, her cold eyes showing nothing but indifference.
