Chapter 427
Chapter 134: Wanting His Heart
After a brief silence, the Dark Magic Leader squinted his eyes and spoke ominously, “Investigate his background.”
He believed in flying goblins but couldn’t wrap his head around an adventurer defeating the Four Great Kings’ projection!
This adventurer’s identity was surely a deceptive facade; his true form must hold great significance!
In Veszyra, strong individuals naturally gain power and fame—it’s impossible to stay low-key.
However, the next piece of news left the Dark Magic Leader silent once more.
“My lord, this is a bit tricky.”
“Because the Sword Demon has passed away in that battle.”
————————
Days later, the crusade against the Purple Magic Sect had finally come to an end, and the storm swirling around Academy City settled at last.
What brought Leanna relief was that the prominent figures, led by Sage Booker, didn’t seem as unreasonable as she had feared.
In the follow-up purge, the Mage Association didn’t recklessly eliminate all the Purple Magicians. After learning that the Demon Race had the power to manipulate hearts, they conducted a detailed investigation, holding accountable only those wicked ones entangled with the cultists.
Leanna’s mother, Lisana, and some loyalists of the Purple Magic Sect managed to escape accountability.
Although the Cassandra Family and the Purple Magic Sect were effectively defunct, it was enough for Leanna that the most important people around her were safe.
On that morning, Leanna was at the Purple Magic Sect’s sanatorium, visiting her mother with Kreya.
Lisana was weak but otherwise fine.
Years apart had created a little distance between mother and daughter, yet the bond between them did not fade; their time together over these days had brought them closer.
Whenever they mentioned that farewell years ago, a trace of sorrow crossed Lisana’s face. “Silly child, in that situation, as a mother, all I could think about was your safety. I wished for you to flee as far as possible; how could I let you go through all that for revenge?”
“All these years, you’ve endured on your own; it must have been tough for you.”
Lisana reached out to touch Leanna’s cheek. Now, Leanna didn’t feel awkward about this gesture; instead, she smiled warmly and grasped her hand.
“It’s okay, it’s all in the past.”
“Exactly, and…” Kreya, glancing at Leanna, stifled a giggle, “Your esteemed president isn’t alone, you know.”
Recalling the figure of a certain black-haired boy, Lisana raised an eyebrow. “That boy—his name was Roy, right?”
“Is he doing any better?”
Leanna shot Kreya a wry smile that chilled her spine, then replied to Lisana, “He’s still in the same condition, but he’s out of immediate danger.”
Seeing the boy faint had nearly made Leanna’s heart stop.
Yet when the boy started to silly laugh and rubbed against her chest, making “Abba Abba Abba” noises, Leanna was left speechless.
No need to worry about his life, but his mind? That was another story.
After diagnosis and treatment, Roy’s injuries were basically healed. However, the side effects from the Sea Emperor’s power were hard to root out with external force; they just had to be endured.
Currently, Roy was bedridden, mostly unconscious. Even when awake, he looked like he was drunk on bad wine—completely out of it.
“I owe my and my mother’s rescue to his help. It was thanks to Roy that I could hold on until the end.”
At this thought, Leanna couldn’t help but smile, reflecting a mix of sweetness, reluctance, heartache, endless gratitude, and the ambiguous feelings of a blossoming girl.
Leanna always concealed her emotions behind the mask of the Student Council President and the Serpent-Eyed Witch, evoking either admiration or apprehension, leaving others puzzled.
But to Lisana, she was still that little girl who hadn’t grown up, her emotions perfectly visible.
Lisana’s gaze took on that unique knowing look of a parent probing into their child’s romantic life, her deliberately softer tone dripping with meaning. “You two—could it be that kind of relationship?”
Leanna, usually teasing toward others, was flustered before her mother, her gaze darting around as she stuttered, “No, no, it’s not…”
After a hasty retreat, Leanna lowered her gaze, feeling a bit melancholic. “He’s already captivated by someone else.”
Leanna secretly wished it were that kind of relationship.
That way, she could naturally remain by Roy’s side.
But now, there was no longer any mutual interest binding them. Thanks to him, she had regained her own radiance.
Going forward, there was no reason to cling to his gentleness, right?
This thought made Leanna break into a wry smile.
Kreya, who had been privy to Leanna’s embarrassment, began to ponder Roy’s complicated relationships and found it hard to find joy in it now.
After all, to Leanna, she seemed unmistakably like a latecomer.
At least from the standpoint of status, Leanna had no edge whatsoever.
Yet, Lisana’s smile remained undimmed. “So, you’ve fallen for another woman’s man.”
“Uh? Kind of…” Caught so blatantly, even Leanna’s cheeks flushed.
“So what now?”
“Huh?”
“What exactly are your feelings for him?”
Leanna shook her head, “What it really means—does it even matter anymore?”
“In other words, you want to give up?” Lisana’s tone turned cold.
Those words pricked Leanna like an invisible needle, causing her heart to ache.
“What does he mean to you? What do you truly want?”
What did Roy mean to her? What did she truly want?
Under her mother’s questioning, memories surged like a tide.
There was the downright harsh rejection, the peaceful afternoons spent in a café, the companionship in facing strong enemies together, and the tenderness that allowed herself to snuggle together through long nights.
What Leanna originally longs for was just an illusion of someone willing to accompany her to the dark ends and into the abyss.
But to her, Roy was the light dispersing the endless darkness, illuminating the pitch-black depths.
Once she felt the warmth of the light, she could no longer stand the solitude of the darkness.
Even now, having saved her mother and regained her own brightness, Leanna still didn’t want to let go of the light that Roy brought her.
Leanna lifted her head and spoke earnestly, “He is light to me. As for what to do…”
“I want him.”
Kreya’s little face turned crimson with excitement.
And Lisana once again wore a smile, lightly nodding in approval.
After going around in circles, purposefully, it felt like returning to the very starting point.
But now, Leanna’s feelings were entirely different from then.
“I want him, but I also don’t want him to hate me,” Leanna felt troubled.
Captivity, seduction, kidnapping—with Roy’s current weakened state, the ways to obtain him are endless.
Just thinking about it made Leanna’s mouth dry and her chest heat up, almost bursting with impulse.
But if there was anything more important than getting Roy, it was being hated by him.
No harming him, no offending him—this was Leanna’s bottom line. So, she had to suppress that urge forcefully.
However, Lisana’s gaze was laced with an understanding only someone who had been through it could possess.
“You want to win his heart, right?”
“With the right opportunity, a girl chasing a boy is a thin veil—you just need a chance.”
