Chapter 383
Chapter 89: Malfoy’s Invitation
On Monday morning, Roy specifically came to the Student Council Office to submit his withdrawal application.
With his collaboration with Leanna now over, there was no need for him to stay in the Student Council.
Especially since he had been so busy lately, he should focus on his studies.
Although grades at the Magic Academy aren’t much use, if they’re too poor, he’d still end up repeating a year.
Repeating a year is no big deal, but disappointing Alice is a bigger problem, and getting ruthlessly mocked by that slacker Nia is even worse.
Just as he was about to knock on the door, he bumped into a middle-aged man pushing it open.
Both of them froze in surprise.
“Mr. Malfoy?”
Roy remembered this cold-faced dude with a hawk nose was a red mage, responsible for dealing with the aftermath of the attack on the Blue Moon Theater.
The red mage specializes in capturing cultists; although he wasn’t very familiar with the guy, anyone who deals with cultists earned Roy’s goodwill.
However, Malfoy’s view of Roy was a bit complicated.
Thanks to Roy and his maid, the calamity from Kalman’s attack was averted, so Malfoy felt grateful to him for that.
But because of that, he was the subject of whispers among his colleagues, being criticized for needing a student’s help to clean up the mess. So while he objectively admired Roy, it was hard for him to feel any warmth.
“Are you looking for something from the Student Council? Need my help with anything?”
“Nothing for me, I’ve already talked with your president,” Malfoy said, glancing into the room, his tone flat and lukewarm.
“Roy Ainbrad, right?”
“Perfect timing, this concerns you too.”
Just as he was saying that, Leanna’s voice came from inside: “Lord Malfoy, I won’t see you off.”
Malfoy was slightly taken aback by the interruption but didn’t dwell on it, leaving with a simple, “We’ll talk another time.”
Inside, Leanna was as poised as ever, sipping coffee gracefully, her brown hair neatly arranged, looking like a different person compared to the sultry, mysterious witch she was before, back in Student Council President mode.
But Kreya beside her had a look that seemed like she wanted to say something.
Roy, catching onto this, frowned slightly: “What’s the red mage here for?”
Kreya was about to speak when Leanna discreetly stepped on her foot, prompting her to obediently close her mouth.
“It’s nothing serious,” Leanna smiled slightly, putting away something on the table, “the matters of my dear junior are much more important.”
“I’m just here to submit my withdrawal application,” Roy said as he handed over the form.
The brown-haired girl stared at it for a moment before slowly picking up a pen to sign it.
What should’ve been a simple action took her forever.
After a moment, she covered her face with her hands and feigned melancholy: “Ah, has this day finally come? My dear junior doesn’t belong to me anymore.”
“Not like I ever belonged to you in the first place, right?!”
“Such cruelty. Was I just a plaything to you after all?” Leanna pretended to wipe nonexistent tears with a sorrowful look.
Ignoring Kreya’s shocked gaze, Roy silently shut his mouth.
Whatever this bad woman says, he had given up on explaining.
However, when receiving the withdrawal application, he couldn’t help but feel a bit dazed.
With this, his fate with Leanna was completely severed.
They were just ordinary senior and junior students; apart from quick glances as they passed each other in the academy, there would be no more entanglements.
She had gotten the hydra’s poison sac as she wished, and chances were she had already ascended to Sequence 6. He had also gained the Certificate of Kingship thanks to her intel.
But there was one thing that made Roy uneasy.
Just before he left, he turned back.
“If there’s any trouble, feel free to come find me.”
Leanna gazed into the boy’s eyes, her lips quivering slightly, but then she pressed them tightly together, turning it into a natural smile.
As usual, she teased: “What’s this, suddenly so concerned about your senior?”
No matter how hard he looked, Roy couldn’t find a hint of vulnerability on Leanna’s face.
He hoped he was just being overly sensitive.
After the boy left the office, Leanna finally relaxed her grip on her skirt, her smile fading, and her eyes turned dark.
Kreya, seeing the shadow that fell over the girl, feigned brightness: “President, aren’t you going to tell him? It’s a rare chance to attend the banquet together!”
But Leanna shook her head with a bitter smile: “Do you think this is something fun?”
She pulled out the invitation she had hidden earlier, her gaze chilling: “This banquet, to put it bluntly, is the student union’s declaration of war against the Purple Mage faction.”
“And our Black Mage faction is merely the chess piece specifically used to probe the strengths of the Purple Mage faction, most likely the first to be sacrificed. Not to mention…”
Not to mention she didn’t want to use him anymore.
Not to mention that the day of the break had nearly arrived, and she shouldn’t indulge in warmth that didn’t belong to her anymore.
Leanna forced herself to return her gaze from the direction the boy had left, taking a sip of her coffee.
The chaotic thoughts were suppressed, leaving only the lingering bitterness.
——————————
Roy had just stepped out of the Student Council hall when he spotted Malfoy waiting there for a while.
“Now we can have a proper chat.”
Roy walked alongside Malfoy across the campus, a lingering suspicion stirring in his mind.
Leanna said it was nothing, but the red mage coming to the academy wasn’t a usual occurrence. He might as well use this opportunity to clarify what the guy was really here for.
Malfoy turned to Roy, “I heard you want to participate in the internal exchange of the student union and seek to buy collectibles?”
“Although the student union is busy dealing with the Purple Mage faction, halting exchanges, I can be your recommender and take you directly to the mid-sequence extraordinary beings’ exchange, or even help you find information on the extraordinary materials you seek.”
The Magic Union had various exchange events, large and small, of varying quality and scale, so having a recommender makes it much easier, especially when this guy offers to help him gather insider intel. It was quite the gift.
But Roy was fully aware that a Sequence 6 red mage had no need to flatter him.
“So, what do you need me to do?” Roy saw right through Malfoy’s intention and asked directly.
He hadn’t let unmentioned benefits cloud his judgment, nor was he overly wary, and didn’t directly refuse or agree, but instead got straight to the point to clarify what the guy was asking.
Malfoy subtly nodded, his usually stern expression softening a bit.
“This weekend, the Purple Mage Cassandra family will host a banquet to officially respond to the matter of colluding with cultists.”
Malfoy said seriously: “On behalf of the student union, I invite Mr. Roy to join me at the banquet and voice our condemnation of the Purple Mage faction’s unjust actions!”
