Chapter 350
Chapter 56: Angry?
Not long after Roy left, Kreya cautiously pushed open the office door.
“President? I noticed Roy didn’t look so good, you two didn’t have a fight, did… President?!”
Before she could finish, Kreya’s pupils shrank.
Because the elegant brow-haired girl’s face no longer reflected her usual grace; it twisted in pain.
She clutched her head tightly, and strange, cold, dark patterns appeared on her formerly delicate skin, emanating a vicious, eerie aura.
After all, Leanna shouldn’t fall this low just because a man rejected her.
Kreya knew well that this was the side effect of Black Magic: Serpent.
The bloodline of a mage was already impure, and it was only through using privately concocted magic potions that one could step into the extraordinary realm. In the process, they accumulated more pollution than a typical extraordinary being.
Black Mages were even worse.
For ordinary mages, their potions came from magical beasts, while black mages had no qualms about tainting themselves with demon power in exchange for strength.
Demons were inherently savage and ruthless.
Among black mages, eight or nine out of ten would face backlash from the demon power, severe cases might even be assimilated and lose their human form.
All of this was not a secret.
Kreya had seen Leanna experience side effects before, but today was the first time it was this severe, with large patches of scales appearing.
This meant that Leanna was reaching her limit.
Watching the girl drenched in cold sweat, shivering in pain, Kreya instinctively wanted to comfort her, but as she reached out, Leanna suddenly glared at her.
“Don’t come over!”
The cold, eerie green in her violet pupils radiated horrific killing intent, freezing Kreya in place.
After a while, the scales on Leanna began to retreat slowly.
She looked like someone just recovering from a severe illness, her face pale and strained as she exhaled, turning her gaze back to Kreya.
“Did you come to report?” Leanna’s voice was much more hoarse than usual.
“Uh, yes, it’s about the auction. But, President, shouldn’t you rest a bit…?”
Leanna coldly interrupted, pressing her still aching forehead, “No need. Just get to the point.”
Kreya hesitated but relayed her report anyway.
“The date for the underground auction has been set for next weekend. Hydra’s poison sac and that treasure stolen from the Southern Sea Commerce Guild will likely be sold then.”
After saying that, Kreya looked worried and added, “President, you need to act quickly.”
“Weren’t you saying that if a black mage doesn’t break through within a certain time to purify their bloodline, they’ll be subjected to the accumulated demon power’s backlash? You’re in this state…”
At Kreya’s words, a hint of self-mockery flashed across Leanna’s pale face.
“Mm, if I can’t break through Sequence 6 by then, I might end up becoming a monster of the demon race.”
She tossed her messy hair, glancing at the girl beside her whose face was darkened, yet her tone was casual as if discussing someone else’s business: “It’s either a breakthrough or a fall, that’s the fate of a black mage, isn’t it? You’ve known that for a long time.”
Leanna propped herself weakly, leaning against the window, her gaze becoming increasingly distant as she recalled the black-haired boy’s receding figure.
Did she not also know that Roy had no feelings for her, merely tolerating her pestering?
Even so, that was still the boy’s kindness towards her.
Once the auction was over, and everyone got what they wanted, they would become strangers.
She feared that by then, she wouldn’t even have the chance to play around anymore.
With that thought, Leanna couldn’t help but clench her fist, her nails digging into her palm without her noticing.
“However, you’re right; I really do need to take action quickly.”
————————
Today, Leanna suddenly seemed much more subdued.
No sudden closeness, no teasing flirtation, and definitely no physical harassment.
Roy initially thought this was a good thing.
Everyone minding their own business, coexisting harmoniously, building a pure and healthy relationship. How nice!
But after a whole day like this, Roy started feeling uneasy.
He wasn’t the type to feel uncomfortable just because the senior hadn’t bullied him.
It was just like a talkative person suddenly going silent for a whole day—Leanna’s abrupt quietness made Roy feel all sorts of awkward.
Especially now, during lunch when they were alone, Leanna hadn’t spoken a word, making the atmosphere extremely stiff.
“President?”
“Mm?”
Leanna glanced up, blinking lightly, her expression revealing no hint of emotion.
“Nothing.”
Seeing Leanna wasn’t teasing him and was just quietly eating her lunch, looking as graceful as an artistic sculpture, Roy suddenly had a bizarre thought.
Could she be mad about what happened before?!
Hmm… turns out, that’s quite possible!
Girls are all about pampering and coddling, especially Leanna, who in the original story could laugh while mercilessly slaughtering enemies. She definitely wasn’t the type with a good temper.
The fact that he had given her a cold shoulder that day would definitely tick her off!
Of course, Leanna wasn’t his possession, but the issue of the Certificate of Kingship still hadn’t been resolved. Now, making her angry wouldn’t be a good move.
“Uh, sorry about what happened before.”
Leanna didn’t look up, coldly responding, “What thing?”
“Uh, the previous comment about you just playing around.”
“I’m not mad, you know.”
Here it comes! When a girl says she’s not mad, she’s definitely mad!
Roy silently retorted in his mind but politely replied, “Still, it’s my fault.”
Leanna’s hand holding the knife and fork paused for a moment.
She sneaked a peek at Roy’s expression, unexpectedly seeing a hint of regret, which made her heart flutter a little, like a gentle stream flowing through.
Leanna’s lack of interest in teasing him these past few days was due to the stabbing pain and weakness from her bloodline’s side effects. But she didn’t expect Roy to take the initiative to show concern and strike up a conversation.
Heh, had her junior gotten a bit lonely?
With great effort, Leanna suppressed the rising corners of her mouth.
“So, what exactly was wrong?” Leanna asked coldly on purpose.
“Well, that day I was too harsh; I shouldn’t have scolded you.”
“It’s fine, I really wasn’t mad, but to be treated as if I was just playing with you, well… I was a little sad.”
As her words fell, Leanna lowered her head and forced a bitter smile, raising her hand to cover her eyes.
Like being swept by a chilling autumn wind, her delicate shoulders trembled.
Now Roy was really panicking.
No, are you serious, sister?!
Let’s just talk it out; no tears, please!
Other women might cry, but the problem is, Leanna in the original story was known to go dark. Roy may not be a soft-hearted person, but the mere thought of transforming this perfectly fine girl into a ruthless witch made his skin crawl.
He certainly didn’t want to take the fall for that!
So, Roy got up and moved over to Leanna’s side, softening his tone as he tried to soothe her, “I was wrong, I was wrong. Please don’t cry, okay?”
Leanna turned her head, giving him only her back.
Her voice grew weaker and more hoarse, and she trembled even more: “Anyone can apologize, but do you really see me as such an easily dealt-with woman?”
