Chapter 287
Chapter 140: Stop Fighting Already!
In the living room, two girls were at a loss for words.
The red-haired princess crossed her arms and sat on a chair, her black silk-clad feet, adorned in high heels, tapping irritably on the floor.
The elf girl hiked up her skirt a bit too indecorously, legs crossed, with no trace of a smile on her face, equally frustrated.
At that moment, neither of them noticed Alice, holding drinks, standing right behind Roy.
Roy’s award ceremony should have been flawless, but thanks to their blunders, it had flaws—something neither of them wanted to see.
What made it worse was that Roy’s expression was a blank slate, showing neither joy nor sadness, leaving them both puzzled.
What if I upset Roy?
Just the thought made the two girls restless.
No, if they had to assign blame, it was definitely her fault.
Charlotte suddenly lifted her head and coldly glared at the elf girl in front of her.
“Nia Molly, you’ve interrupted me and Roy one too many times. Are you satisfied now that you’ve made Roy look foolish in front of everyone?”
Nia shot back with a glare, laughing in anger, “Charlotte Reinhardt, you’re the one causing trouble, right? First that night you interrupted my date with Roy, and now you’re trying to show off and steal the spotlight. You should be the one getting blamed!”
“Heh, you really are a scheming elf with no sense of reflection.”
“The one really at fault is too proud to admit it; why should I reflect?”
Charlotte, inheriting the fiery temperament of the Lionheart family, held her royal pride and had no intention of backing down even in front of a dragon, let alone a rival in love.
But Nia, raised in the Adventurers’ Guild, was equally stubborn, unwilling to back down without a fight, especially since her background was just as respectable as Charlotte’s.
The determination in each of their eyes spoke volumes, both secretly surprised by the shared resolve.
“Let me lay it out.” Charlotte began, letting out a soft sigh. “Roy’s bloodline is special; he’s fated to be hunted by cultists.”
“Our Reinhardt family was once on good terms with the bloodline of the False King. Not to mention, just in the last generation, we provided protection for Roy’s mother. As the Lionheart Princess, I am his rightful monarch, capable and determined to share the fate tied to the False King’s bloodline with him.”
“Regardless of your feelings for Roy, you don’t have what it takes to walk beside him!”
Charlotte slowly rose, exuding a tremendous extraordinary presence that made the air feel hot enough to boil, as if a blazing sun had just risen.
It was the pressure of her golden bloodline, the “Lionheart.”
In the First Era, the Flame Lions, dwelling beneath a volcano, were among the few extraordinary beings that could stand against dragons.
That overbearing pressure, comparable to a dragon’s might, instinctively made one feel submissive. Even among Sequence 7 extraordinary beings, it was difficult to maintain composure in the face of such suffocating pressure.
However, Nia was different.
“Fine, you want to talk about fate?” After a mocking quip, the elf girl replied, calm yet serious, “We, the elven descendants, have been fighting against All Things Wither since ancient times! My father and Roy’s mother were sworn friends!”
“And as the heir of the Forest Elf, I was born bearing the mission to oppose All Things Wither! Roy and I have long agreed to put an end to the grievances with the cultists together!”
“That promise isn’t something you get to meddle with!”
Nia stood up gracefully, luminous green lights swirling around her, dancing with the wind, dreamlike yet radiating an overwhelming extraordinary power.
Elves were among those most favored by the goddess, transcendental beings of the realm; unless the goddess herself showed up, what was there to fear even from the lord of flames?
Charlotte had already mentally prepared herself for that.
“Since that’s the case, why not have a comparison then?”
“Let’s compare to see who is truly worthy to accompany Roy.” The red-haired princess slightly tilted her head back, declaring her challenge.
The elf girl met her gaze coldly, a hint of disdain: “Sounds good to me!”
Both their energies surged abruptly, like a boiling heat wave, or a brewing storm.
Because they were waiting for Roy and others to return, the award ceremony had to be postponed. Everyone sipped their drinks, feeling bored, except for the elderly man with white hair and a few high-level extraordinary beings, who glanced at the ceiling with surprised and peculiar looks.
They marveled at the overwhelming presence of the two girls that far exceeded their peers but were confused about why they were clashing.
On one side was the Lionheart Princess, possessing the primordial fire of Sequence, who had battled since childhood amidst iron and blood. On the other was the Elven Nightingale, having honed her skills through adventures.
Just as the two heavenly girls were about to give their all to compete, the tightly shut door was suddenly flung open.
“Stop it right now!”
With the boy’s authoritative shout came a moment of ancient pressure that loomed like the vast sky.
After Roy advanced to Sequence 8, his original abilities saw a tremendous boost.
As he unleashed this power, the unfathomable dragon might surged forth like a dark golden stream of light, utterly collapsing the might of the two girls, consuming both the roaring flames and the vibrant winds!
The two girls, who had just been glaring at each other, were momentarily stunned and immediately reined in their powers.
Indeed, this was due to the dragon’s might.
Even with the powerful golden bloodline of Sequence 7, if one hadn’t awakened their true power to tap into their bloodline’s potential, they couldn’t stand firm before such frightful dragon might.
Charlotte and Nia not only had formidable bloodlines but were also exceptionally talented. Even this dragon pressure from Roy could merely stun them for a moment, unable to completely subdue their bloodlines.
However, for them, what mattered most wasn’t the dragon might, but the fact that it came from Roy himself.
Under Roy’s displeased gaze, both Charlotte and Nia felt guilty, instinctively reining in all their power, turning back into harmless kittens and birds.
“As a princess of a nation and as the chief daughter, each representing your respective countries and races, how could you two fight openly in front of all the students and teachers? What on earth were you thinking?! Do you know the consequences of this?!”
Under Roy’s exasperated reprimand, both girls lost their confidence and lowered their heads in silence.
“And do you really think that beating each other up and determining a winner will make me happy?” At this point, Roy’s voice unconsciously softened.
He walked closer to the two, glancing back and forth, sighing, “I don’t want to see either of you hurt.”
Charlotte looked away with a slight huff, while Nia shyly scratched her ear and chuckled a bit.
Warmth flowed into both girls’ hearts at that moment, but upon seeing each other, a hint of sourness emerged.
“Uh, I was too impulsive; it’s my fault.”
“Sorry, I shouldn’t have argued with her.”
As they spoke, the two didn’t even make eye contact, completely embodying the feeling of little girls succumbing to their teacher’s tyranny. But Roy was quite satisfied they could temporarily cease fire without drawing blood.
At least, he didn’t have to worry about a world war… probably.
“However, Roy, you should tell her the truth now.”
“Right, hurry up and tell her the answer!”
With Charlotte’s eager tone and Nia’s expectant demeanor, both girls echoed in unison.
“You should tell her about that letter, right?”
Hearing their synchronized voices, the expressions of the two girls suddenly became quite something, bewildered.
They simultaneously took out a letter from their pockets, and their expressions shifted from thinking they had hit the jackpot to discovering a wrong number, utterly unwilling.
“Wait, you got a letter too?”
“What? Why do you have one as well?!”
At that moment, Roy seemed to finally give up, letting out a long sigh and forcing a pale smile.
“I’ll explain.”
