Chapter 149

Chapter 2: Roilin’s Notes

Roy, back home and not even bothering to rest, was busy preparing drinks and food for the banquet.

It’s funny, really. It’s supposed to be a welcome feast for him, yet he ended up being the one running around like a headless chicken.

But when the banquet officially started, seeing knights, adventurers, and a whole bunch of lively townsfolk raising their glasses in cheers, Roy couldn’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment.

Unlike the banquets in the capital, this welcome feast wasn’t just for the nobility; it was a gathering for the common folk, hosted not in the lord’s hall but right in the town center.

This gave Roy more opportunities to interact with the people.

What surprised Roy was that the welcome he received was on par with that of Carl. People kept coming to toast him, and it even triggered a reputation reward!

【Reputation +1, +1, +5, +1, +10, +5,……】

While the reputation he got when becoming a sworn knight was a one-time deal, this time it stacked up nicely since there were so many people, making it quite impressive.

Not long ago, Roy had a notorious reputation, to the point where people would actively avoid him while out on the streets.

Even if he did have some credit from protecting them, it was a distant matter and hardly enough to change their mind about him right away.

It turned out, after asking Anya, that a certain little maid had been actively promoting him to the crowd.

“Alice was praising you to the knights and adventurers earlier, and while you were busy, she wasn’t idle either. While helping set up the venue, she was spreading the word about your hard work behind the scenes,” Anya said, somewhat touched. “Military achievements and glory are admirable, but what people truly love are lords who are willing to get their hands dirty and serve the people.”

Roy was taken aback by her words.

Isn’t this serving the people? Maybe it’s due to the education from his previous life that he unconsciously did all of this.

Of course, he had no intentions of promoting himself; he was just grateful to that little maid for aiding his image.

“Alice did a great job! I’ll leave my reputation to you,” Roy gently ruffled the fluffy hair of the girl as praise.

The little maid squinted her eyes, enjoying the moment, before replying in a matter-of-fact tone, “Alice is just speaking the truth, helping everyone see the greatness of the master.”

“Oh? Why don’t you tell me in what specific ways your master is great?” Roy asked, feeling amused and teasing.

Unexpectedly, Alice looked back at him with clear and innocent eyes and said seriously, “Although the master is a noble, he treats everyone kindly. As a knight, he is always brave and fearless. As a lord, he is willing to train with the people. In every way, he is outstanding!”

For others, that might sound hypocritical or excessive, but Alice always regarded him with sincerity.

So, being praised so directly by the girl made Roy feel shy, his cheeks heating up.

“I-it’s not as exaggerated as you say.”

“Master is being modest again.”

“Seriously, when did my maid’s tongue get so sweet?” Roy chuckled helplessly, reaching out to pinch the maid’s soft, cotton-like cheeks.

Her cool little face immediately got squished, and the maid, a bit dazed, mumbled, “I only thought flowers are pretty…”

Nearby, the head maid watched the rare affectionate interaction between master and maid and nodded in satisfaction.

The welcome feast was rather casual, lacking the numerous rules of a noble banquet. After some eating, drinking, singing, and dancing, it came to an end.

Once the feast was over and they were back at the lord’s mansion, Carl called out to Roy, who was about to head back to his room.

“Come with me.”

“It’s time I give you those notes I mentioned before.”

Today’s banquet seemed to have brought Carl back to the past, and he rarely mentioned Roilin, showing a hint of nostalgia. “You know, your mother was quite skilled at managing the territory back in her day.”

Whenever Carl spoke of Roilin, it usually involved discussions about bloodline secrets and the atmosphere grew heavier, so Roy didn’t dare bring it up himself. Casual conversations like this were indeed rare.

To be honest, even without considering bloodlines, Roy was curious about this character who had never appeared in the original work.

“Skilled at managing territory? Was Mom a noble too?”

“No, although the bloodline was strong, she was just a commoner before marrying in. I suppose her family had long since fallen. And just like you…,” Carl thought for a moment, then said, “Even after becoming a noble, she never felt superior. She never bullied the lower class, was always humble, and when managing the territory, she always cared for her people, coming up with all sorts of ideas that sounded ridiculous.”

Hearing that, Roy thought it sounded quite impressive! The more he listened, the more interested he became, asking, “Like what?”

“For starters, she said to improve commerce, we first need to build roads, practice crop rotation, and potatoes—don’t underestimate this thing; back then, only the northern regions grew them.”

As Carl talked, Roy began to realize that things he took for granted were somewhat advanced for medieval times.

He had thought there was no need to nitpick on a yuri galgame, but he didn’t expect Roilin had such a profound influence behind it; the backstory was quite detailed.

Roy followed Carl to the underground treasure house of the lord’s mansion, passing by various extraordinary artifacts, and arrived at a storage table set apart.

He had seen this table before while scouring for potions, but now he realized that it actually held Roilin’s notes.

Carl took out the notes from the storage table.

The notes were quite old, the cover yellowed, and alarmingly, they were covered in scorch marks and severely damaged, as if they had been through a fire.

“I wanted to look through these notes myself, but Roilin said they contain extraordinary secrets tied to her bloodline that only her heirs could understand.” The moment Carl grasped the notes, his gaze softened like never before.

“Here, take it. It belongs to you.”

Perhaps these notes had been through some fierce battles with Roilin.

Thinking about how they contained the glorious life of a legendary extraordinary being, as well as the farewell dance of someone dear to his father, Roy felt a newfound admiration and solemnity.

Roy solemnly extended his hands and took the notes.

But as he opened the first page, it felt like being struck by lightning, freezing him in place.

The first reason was that he recognized the writing on the pages.

Though a bit messy, the strokes were etched deep in Roy’s soul; he’d recognize it anywhere.

It was the characters he used in his last life—Chinese!

The second reason was that the very first line of the notes was shockingly overwhelming in every sense.

“HAHAHAHA! After so many years of reading web novels, it’s finally my turn to traverse to another world! Beautiful boys of another realm, wait for me to spoil you!!!”
