Chapter 123
Chapter 120: The Crimson Blood Dragon
The King of Flames spread his wings, engulfed in raging dragon flames, standing proudly beneath the sky, looking down on this tiny world.
He lifted his head and smiled cruelly, bloodthirstily.
“My brethren, my minions! Hear my command, kill, trample, and burn the world of mortals! I shall build a kingdom for the dragon race upon the bones of humanity!”
With the blessing of the celestial dragon bloodline, the bloodlines of the sub-dragons and cultists throughout the kingdom were enhanced, their gray-black dirty scales stained crimson, bathing in flames, and following their king into a frenzy of slaughter.
On the outskirts of Twilight Wind City, the previously advantageous defensive battle was turned on its head in an instant, as the enhanced sub-dragons unleashed their dragon breath, turning the town’s perimeter into a sea of fire.
Only those who experienced the war eighteen years ago knew what this meant.
The celestial dragon had awakened!
The usually composed Lisa lost her composure and shouted, “Retreat! Everyone retreat!”
Alice looked up unwillingly at the flailing dragon swarm above her, surveying the familiar town disappearing step by step into the flames, realizing for the first time just how insignificant she truly was.
Lionheart City.
In the distance, the horizon was dyed a conspicuous crimson, like a warning bell signaling the arrival of doom.
The nobles were either terrified or confused; the entire royal palace was already in chaos.
The younger generation had never witnessed such a scene; only a few of the older generation who had experienced disaster first reacted, turning to the core for answers on how to handle the crisis.
“Your Majesty! What should we do?!”
But the usually dignified and wise queen already sat pale and weak beside them.
“Your Majesty?!”
Because at the very forefront of the apocalypse, stood her own flesh and blood.
The Raymond Territory.
The dragon swarm that had been suppressed went mad in an instant, engaging in yet another round of slaughter with the Windrider Knights and the Raymond army.
With countless high-level extraordinary beings stationed, the dragons still retreated little by little.
When Robert delivered the finishing blow to the leading pureblood giant dragon, the battle reached its conclusion.
Yet the furious Lionheart King showed no smile of a victor.
The lead dragon was defeated, and instead, the bloodline power of the dragons increased!
They had fallen into a trap.
The dragon swarm in the Raymond Territory was merely a diversion!
“What the hell is going on?! Who is your lead dragon?!”
Robert roared, continuously swinging heavy punches that nearly turned the massive pureblood gray dragon into a mush.
But that sub-dragon only mocked him, taunting the incompetence of mortals.
“O ant king, do you still not understand? You have already lost!”
“Our king has returned! He will avenge the disgrace of the battle eighteen years ago and will lead us to reclaim the skies!”
“You’re seeking death!!!”
Upon hearing this, Robert’s face turned icy, and he roared angrily as he smashed its heart, the raging heat melting the entire giant dragon into blood.
“Kill me! Kill every dragon here! After all, it’s already too late! When you return, your territory, your family, everything you’ve protected will be reduced to ashes by our king!”
Until its dying breath, its maniacal laughter echoed beneath the night sky, lingering and relentless.
In the distance, the knights celebrated their victory over the dragons, but Robert sat slumped to the side, disbelief and pain covering his face.
“It’s over, it’s all over.”
Carl and old Raymond also heard the gray dragon’s mad laughter, watching the once-named “Hero” king in such despair, their hearts surged with unease.
Old Raymond asked anxiously, “Robert! What was it saying? The king has returned? But that beast should have…”
“That beast is still alive!” Robert lifted his head, roaring in grief and anger.
Eighteen years ago, the kingdom paid so much blood just to subdue the Crimson Blood Dragon. Now hearing that the creature that had brought them countless destruction was still alive, old Raymond simply couldn’t accept it.
Old Raymond was furious, “What the hell happened?! You delivered the last blow, why is it still alive?!”
“Exactly! I struck it into a volcano! But I thought… I thought it was dead!”
“Pierced through the chest and fell into a volcano; it should have died!”
“I should have at least taken a look, even just a glance…”
Robert clutched his head, stammering through tears, “But I was too scared.”
“I’m not afraid of death! But on that day, I was truly afraid!”
“I was afraid I wouldn’t see my daughter born, afraid all these sacrifices would be for nothing. I was afraid that if I took a step forward, that cursed beast was still alive, it would burn everything we have to ashes!”
“I really thought it was dead!”
For the first time, the two realized that this king, who was always at the forefront, brave and fierce, was so fragile and small.
In fact, they had both seen the fire dragon fall into the volcano, stopping its life, thinking that beast turned to ashes beneath the magma.
Even the Crimson Blood Dragon, in its near-death state, couldn’t have ignored the magma of the end times volcano. After all, even the hardest dragon scales ultimately cover flesh and blood.
But now, it was too late to say anything.
“Let’s go back now! Perhaps we still have a chance to stop it!”
Even Carl knew how powerless that statement was.
Even riding griffins on forced march, it would take them a day and a night to reach the capital.
Even in a near-death state, the Crimson Blood Dragon was enough to turn the capital to ashes.
The last time the dragon appeared dragged the entire kingdom into the fires of war, causing countless lives, including their friends and family, to vanish. This time, no one knew what terrible price they would pay again.
——————————————
The inferno painted the night sky red, and under the proud Dragon King, the sub-dragons swarmed and spiraled, as if the apocalypse had arrived.
Lisa led the knights back first.
What Roy didn’t expect was that Leo was still alive.
The second prince was missing an arm, his body charred, and his chest pierced by dragon claws, barely clinging to life, with none of his previous arrogance remaining.
He was set aside, just like everyone else, staring at the apocalyptic scene afar, anxious and unsettled.
Feeling the terrifying dragon might that could almost ignite his blood, Leo finally realized how terrifying dragon kind truly was.
In the face of the King of Flames, mortals were all ants. Even he was no exception.
Until Roy stood in front of him.
Leo glanced at him in surprise.
Only this young boy was different from everyone else.
There was fear in his eyes, yet even so, the flame of fighting spirit had not been extinguished.
In front of him, Leo found it inexplicably hard to hold his head high.
“If you want to kill me, go ahead. After all…”
Leo knew full well that with his injuries, he had little time left.
“Nice thinking, you’re definitely going to die.” Roy coldly scoffed, “But before you die, make yourself useful!”
“You and the Cult of the Dragon, didn’t you know they were doing this behind the scenes?! Don’t you have any defenses against their trump cards?!”
“It’s you who allied with the cult, allowing them to act with impunity, letting the sub-dragon corpses and innocent people suffer, you even let your knights who followed you die!”
Roy grabbed Leo by the collar, heedless of his pained cries from his injuries, violently yanking him up, glaring at him, sternly saying, “You are the root cause of all this! So don’t give me that nonchalant attitude like you’re just waiting to die!”
“If someone’s going to die, it should be after you atone!”
“Tell me, how do we deal with the Crimson Blood Dragon?!”
All eyes turned to Leo.
As Roy said, he understood the inner workings of the Cult of the Dragon better than anyone present; perhaps he really had some solution.
