Chapter 115
Chapter 112: Dragon Scales
At that moment, my feelings were almost in sync with Zigfei’s, without a doubt, it was a case of Blood Resonance.
However, unlike the Blood Resonance with Charlotte, this kind felt more like bloodlines from the same source echoing each other.
Could it be that I am a descendant of Zigfei?
Generally speaking, Cultists seeking blessings from evil gods have to pay a massive price. Like that Dragon-man monster before, who lost its sanity and became something that wasn’t quite human or ghost.
On the other hand, the Holy Light Church requires strong faith and strict rules, even extraordinary materials.
But all I did was experience a wave of Zigfei’s signature agony, without paying any other price—it’s practically a freebie.
Thinking this, the image of the Dragon King in my mind suddenly became much more impressive.
What a considerate Dragon King, really decent!
With this new trump card, I finally felt a bit more confident.
But at that moment, faint noises came from outside the room.
In this remote tavern, it’s unlikely there’d be other guests besides me.
Unless…
I jolted back to attention, quickly rushing to Charlotte’s side and shaking her awake.
“Wake up, there’s movement!”
Charlotte opened her eyes to see me right in front of her, shivering and almost screaming in surprise.
This guy finally couldn’t hold back?!
Charlotte panicked, thrashing around like a little kitten caught by its owner.
Fortunately, I reacted quickly, covering her mouth and signaling her to be quiet, then pointed towards the door. That finally calmed her down.
Seeing my serious expression, Charlotte caught on and perked up.
Extraordinary Beings have stronger senses than ordinary people.
In the quiet room, even a pin drop could be heard, making the faint footsteps outside all the more distinct.
We exchanged a glance, both feeling a chill.
Someone was out there.
This village definitely had something going on!
Meanwhile, Mina lightened her steps, accompanied by three burly men, approaching the door.
Her smile was still charming, but her wide-open eyes were as cold as ghostly flames.
Just as she was about to knock, she seemed to get a shock, sensing the presence inside the room.
She then started caressing the wall, her hand stopping right next to the door.
Mina knew the layout of the place better than anyone; it was directly facing the position of the bed.
“Not bad for an escapee from grandpa’s grasp, quite vigilant.”
“But… grandpa said it doesn’t matter if we kill or not~”
The girl’s soft voice deepened, and her delicate skin began to sprout writhing scales. Then, in the next moment, her slender arms swelled up, and her fingertips revealed grayish claws!
With a thunderous strike, Mina smashed right through the fragile wooden wall, and amidst the flying debris, headed straight for the bed inside the room.
The tiny bed was shredded to bits under her claws.
But as my gaze fell, there was no blood, nor any sign of prey.
It was as if those two had never been there.
Mina’s bloodthirsty smile froze, and the three burly men behind her panicked.
Where were the quarry that should have been theirs? How would they explain this?
“Why are they gone?!”
“Could it be some kind of teleportation device?”
“Shut up.” Mina snapped, interrupting her subordinates’ chatter.
There was no energy fluctuation from teleportation devices. The narrow window couldn’t possibly let anyone escape. And I had been watching downstairs the whole time, there was no way I let those two get away.
It seemed there was some sort of illusion at play.
But how could the gift from my king lose to such insignificant tricks!?
Mina closed her eyes and twitched her nose.
As a Fallen One, Mina’s sense of smell rivaled that of pureblood beastmen.
In less than two seconds, she opened her eyes again and lunged towards the door.
“Don’t you dare run!”
The air shimmered, revealing the figures of Roy and Charlotte.
Unfortunately, what awaited Mina wasn’t the panic of a young boy, but a fireball charged up and ready from Charlotte!
Flames rushed like a tidal wave, engulfing every Cultist in sight, including Mina!
Red sparks erupted in the tavern’s dark night.
The small room was obliterated by the explosive flames, even the floor collapsing beneath.
Roy and Charlotte leaped down from the second floor through the smoke.
The burly men had already been blown to countless charred bones strewn about, leaving only Mina to rise from the wreckage.
The fierce fire had almost burned Mina’s clothes to shreds, yet her flesh remained intact. The gray-black scales crawled all over her body, rendering the blazing Lionheart flames, which could melt steel, into mere harmless sparks on her scales.
The seemingly gentle village girl turned out to be a Fallen One of the Dragon Cult!
Charlotte’s brow furrowed with concern.
Mina, who had endured the impact of Sequence 8, stood confidently from the flames: “Noble Lord, you really have no sense of courtesy, wasting someone’s dinner and coming in so violently.”
Mina’s lips twisted into an eerie smile, “What a pity, I had this lovely little girl prepped, and cooked her just right for you.”
“Sigh, if I were to enjoy it myself, I would have eaten her raw.” Mina licked her crimson lips, as if savoring the thought.
The image of that bloody meat, once belonging to a living child, made Roy feel nauseated.
Charlotte’s fists clenched tightly, an overwhelming killing intent radiating from her.
The Dragon Cult really could commit such unspeakable acts!
“To gain strength at the cost of eating people, what a bunch of lunatics!”
But at Charlotte’s furious scream, Mina suddenly looked dim.
“That’s why I said, noble Lord, you don’t know the suffering of the world.”
“What?”
“Princess up high certainly wouldn’t understand, would you, why we endure such ‘immoral’ hardships.”
“I…”
“If there were a choice, do you really think I would choose to do this?”
Faced with Mina’s questioning, Charlotte thought of the impoverished people and was momentarily thrown into confusion.
Perhaps, just as the other said, there were reasons for her actions.
But it was this moment of confusion that slowed her reaction!
Mina, already prepared, suddenly sprang up, leaping more than twenty meters, her claws swooping like the grim reaper’s scythe!
“Hahahahaha! Serving my King is my honor; it’s certainly voluntary!”
Each noble has received the same education—poverty, suffering, greed, even the wicked have their reasons, a lot of them are even forced.
But only Cultists should be seen as inhuman monsters, never deserving of pity.
Charlotte cursed herself for momentarily falling for the other’s words, forgetting this simplest truth!
In the frantic motion, she barely had time to gather flames.
It’s over—
But just as the claws were about to strike, a figure faster than Mina burst forth.
How could Sequence 9’s Iron Will, unarmed, possibly stand against a Fallen One?!
A sneer crossed Mina’s face, while Charlotte looked anxious.
But to the surprise of both, Roy’s fist, charged with a fierce wind, smashed into Mina’s face.
A crisp sound of shattering echoed, and Mina’s mocking expression twisted in an instant, and then a tremendous blow sent her crashing away!
What just happened—
Mina hadn’t even reacted before Roy caught her hand mid-air, then twisting his waist, he threw another punch straight at her face!
Mina could hardly believe her eyes.
The punch heading towards her was covered in what looked like armored black-gold material, like…
Dragon scales?!
This time, the scales Mina proudly wore as a Fallen One cracked along with her nasal bridge. With a scream, she was sent hurtling indoors like a ragged doll, crashing through the entire bar counter.
