Chapter 106
Chapter 103: Bloodline Resonance
“Charlotte, don’t you think this guy looks a bit familiar?”
“Uh… kind of.”
Leian had long been tainted by the power of the evil god, descending into madness and losing most of his sanity.
Even so, he was deeply hurt by the indifferent gazes from the two of them.
The biggest humiliation wasn’t hostility or mockery but rather indifference!
One was a haughty princess, and the other was Roy, the one who had brought himself to this state!
They would pay the price today!
Leian let out a roar, and in an instant, a pair of bloody dragon wings sprouted from his back, like a demon descending!
“Die! Give me… death!!!”
With wings spread wide like curved blades, the figure of the dragon man rushed in like a cannonball!
Roy and Charlotte leapt simultaneously, dodging from both sides.
Charlotte retaliated faster, sending a torrent of blazing flames flying!
Compared to the “Weapon Projection: Fire,” the “Flame Dominator,” which allowed one to manipulate fire freely, was the core ability of the “Lionheart.”
Among all fire-based extraordinary abilities, the power of “Flame Dominator” ranked at the top, a single burst of flame enough to melt steel!
Yet, this fiercely hot attack merely left a wisp of sparks on Leian’s dark, scaly skin!
The surface of the gray-black scales seemed to breathe, easily dispersing the searing flames.
Roy’s heart sank.
The dragon man’s scales were not only far stronger than those of ordinary sub-dragons, but they also had immense resistance to fire!
Otherwise, Charlotte’s initial strike would have blown its head off.
In terms of offensive power, Charlotte was much stronger than him, but her compatibility with this dragon man monster was just too poor.
As Leian roared and lunged toward Charlotte, Roy quickly projected a longsword and slashed out!
To his surprise, the opponent reacted extremely fast, twisting at the waist as a dragon tail, like a long whip, came crashing in!
Roy squinted his eyes, remaining calm; he executed a front roll, narrowly missing the terrifying dragon tail.
The swishing tail struck a large rock, splitting it in two.
Even with “Steel Bones,” being hit by that tail would likely turn him into a pile of scrap!
Roy didn’t dare delay, quickly rising and striking diagonally upward with utmost precision!
The blade light flashed, this strike hitting the unprotected corner of Leian’s cheek.
If it had struck the scales, the iron sword would have been broken in one hit.
Leian clutched his face in pain and fell back, but he was far from losing his combat effectiveness—if anything, his anger was ignited.
“It’s you, Roy! Die!”
Seeing the dragon man shift his target to him, Roy felt his scalp tingle, but he didn’t dodge. He simply uttered two words.
“Knowledge!”
The eagle shrieked.
A surge of golden lightning burst forth like a sharp longsword, instantly sending Leian flying dozens of meters away.
The Golden-Winged Griffin and the dragon man tumbled and soared through the woods, sharp fangs and claws clashing, entangled in a fierce battle.
But the dragon man was protected by its scales, allowing the same spot to absorb several attacks.
On the other hand, the Golden-Winged Griffin could only endure with blood and flesh; it quickly became a bloody mess and was far from a match.
Charlotte clenched her silver teeth, looking anxious: “This guy is a Fallen One, at least level three!”
“A Fallen One?” Roy’s heart skipped a beat.
Those tainted by the evil god’s power were Fallen Ones, rated from four source levels. Level three was somewhere between Sequence 7 and 6.
The Golden-Winged Griffin was already a strong Sequence 7; if the dragon man could overpower it, it meant he was infinitely close to Sequence 6!
This monster must have been an extraordinary being before becoming a servant of the evil god; otherwise, it wouldn’t have fallen so deep.
In the original story, ‘The Rascally Roy’ was only level three; this dragon man monster was equivalent to the boss of the original work!
While they were talking, the Golden-Winged Griffin was nearly being beaten down.
Charlotte looked serious, taking down a pendant that glowed with scarlet light from her neck: “I have to use my trump card!”
Cross-tier battles were already very difficult, especially against an opponent several sequences above them, who just happened to be resistant to her fire.
Apart from “Flame Blossom,” Charlotte had no other choice.
But at that moment, Roy held her hand and shook his head.
“Flame Blossom is our final ace; let’s hold onto it for now.”
Charlotte frowned: “Isn’t it urgent enough right now?!”
“That guy is almost Sequence 6! Even with your odd gadgets, you won’t win! Once the Golden-Winged Griffin goes down, we’re done for!” The girl was sweating with anxiety.
Roy had plenty of tricks up his sleeve; he had even managed to take down Sequence 6 Leo, but those were all lucky strategies.
When it came to a straight-up confrontation with the dragon man who could suppress the Golden-Winged Griffin, Roy, merely at Sequence 8, stood no chance!
Was he planning to hold off the monster by himself?
That thought shocked Charlotte, and she grabbed Roy’s arm, nervously saying, “Don’t do anything stupid; you can’t win!”
“I really can’t win.” Seeing how anxious she was, Roy changed his tune, saying softly, “But together, we might.”
Roy gazed into her concerned eyes and gently asked, “Will you trust me?”
This was the first time Charlotte had seen Roy show such seriousness.
She understood that Roy was willing to entrust their victory to her.
Charlotte took a deep breath and smiled: “Do you even need to ask?”
They shared a smile.
Roy stood beside Charlotte, taking her soft little hand and mimicking a bowstring pull.
“Remember our last hunt? Just like that time!”
Under Roy’s instruction, Charlotte condensed a fiery longbow.
The Golden-Winged Griffin was gradually running out of steam; they had little time left.
Charlotte rarely hesitated when shooting arrows, but never before had she felt so anxious.
They only had one chance, and if this arrow missed, they would be torn to pieces by that monster.
Not just herself; Roy would die too.
Charlotte felt breathless, her hands ice-cold, the bow and arrow in her grip felt like a thousand pounds, her vision blurring as the overwhelming tension swallowed her.
Until she heard a gentle sigh beside her: “I’m here.”
Roy’s hand grasped her trembling one, another warm palm cupped her waist.
The familiar scent and warmth of Roy—from the back of her hand, her ear, her waist, and with every breath he took—calmed Charlotte’s anxiety, dispelled the torrent of unease, and became the strength that supported her.
“Nothing to be nervous about; just like last time. It’s just a rabbit.” Roy spoke in a light tone, as if merely discussing a leisurely lunch.
Charlotte couldn’t help but chuckle.
Wow, how impressive.
Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of cold sweat beading on Roy’s forehead. She knew he must be just as tense and anxious in this life-and-death moment as she was, far from his calm facade.
Yet, he always managed to remain composed, making the most reasonable judgments to turn the situation around.
In comparison to bloodlines and origins, this was what Charlotte truly admired, and it was the reason she trusted him.
Now that Roy had placed his bets on her, how could she let him down?!
The Golden-Winged Griffin took another swipe, finally unable to hold on and letting out a woeful cry as it retreated.
“Are you ready?” Roy’s tone chilled.
“Do you think I am?” That royal confidence and pride returned to Charlotte’s face.
Roy blinked and then smiled in return.
“Bloodline Resonance” required both of them to focus intensely on synchronizing their extraordinary powers; any lapse in emotion could lead to failure.
He knew Princess wouldn’t let him down.
Leian’s gaze fell on the two of them, and the entwined figures once again pierced him with pain, pushing him to the edge of fury as he opened his bloodied claws and lunged!
At the same time, their breaths and heartbeats perfectly synchronized, until their bloodlines emitted a delightful tremor.
The fiery longbow faintly revealed contours of steel, the arrow radiating a metallic glint.
“Now!” *2
“Roar!!!”
Surprise and rage intertwined.
The two released their arrows simultaneously.
Crimson arrows wrapped in a blazing dragon whirlwind shot forth like a scarlet torrent of steel, piercing through the air with a deafening twang, striking Leian’s hideous face and exploding in a brilliant conflagration!
In the forest, flames howled fiercely.
