Chapter 999
Chapter 107: Why Are There Only Six of the Seven Day Demon Lords?
Observing the six figures scattered around, Vilyric found their presence not completely unfamiliar.
The first to catch her eye was a human-shaped figure floating in the air, wreathed in a strange, ghastly green mist.
The figure had complete limbs but lacked eyes, nose, or lips, only a hazy face visible. Nevertheless, the Priestess would not easily forget the familiar aura emanating from it.
This was indeed the culprit who first attempted to hold a live sacrifice in the Zeng family village but was stopped by Ling Feng, Bai’er, and a suddenly appearing Miss Vilyric. Defeated but not easily killed.
The Seven Day Demon Lord – Misty Veil.
The second individual wore a simple white robe, elderly and with hair white as snow, looking like a hundred-year-old man. Yet, his skin appeared as delicate as a newborn’s, evoking envy among any beautiful women in the world, as he curiously gazed at the two.
The Seven Day Demon Lord – Pharmacist.
The third figure was only glimpsed in a fleeting moment. Before Vilyric could even take a good look at their appearance, the figure vanished as if retreating into the void, but the lingering feeling of being watched proved its identity.
The Seven Day Demon Lord – Fleeting Void.
The fourth was a withered old man, skinny as a twig and dressed in tattered rags, casually draped in what seemed to be a mere scrap of cloth. His sparse and dry hair contrasted with the bizarre bone staff he held, which was taller than a person, adorned with fluttering flags.
A dense aura of malevolence and ominousness radiated from him and his staff, adding an unsettling chill to the ancient battlefield merely by standing there.
Though Vilyric had never seen him before, the pressure he exuded was the strongest and most fierce among the six figures, rivaling the Peach Blossom Saint and not far off from the previous black serpent or golden-armored avian seen at Peach Blossom Peak.
The fifth was quite normal, being the one closest to the concept of “Human” among the group.
She was a young woman with pink hair, distinctly different from those of Lingguo, dressed in a thin robe. Her delicate skin peeked from the lapels, with a charming figure and captivating eyes as bright as peach blossoms, making her an exquisite beauty from any angle.
She looked very much like a Peach Blossom Guardian or a Peach Blossom Demon in humanoid form, but it couldn’t be.
Because her essence was not biological.
Perhaps ordinary people couldn’t see through it, but considering the context and the subtle aura emanating from the woman, Vilyric guessed her identity at a glance.
Heart-Snatching Evil Demon.
A relatively rare yet exceedingly troublesome ancient evil in the Ancient Spirit Realm.
Ordinary evil demons lack reason and only follow instincts to attach themselves to or attack living beings they encounter; no matter how powerful they are, it’s still possible to devise clever ways to deal with them. However, Heart-Snatching Evil Demons are entirely different.
These demons possess “hearts.”
They have a reason and intelligence that can match or even surpass ordinary sentient beings, displaying a rich array of emotions similar to humans, understanding self-preservation, and manipulating the environment and external factors to protect and grow themselves.
Even if a Heart-Snatching Evil Demon is weak, it is tenfold more difficult to deal with than an ordinary evil demon. In any nation within the Ancient Spirit Realm, once this type of evil is identified, they would immediately cease all activities to muster forces for a complete extermination, leaving no room for its growth.
Because the “heart” of a Heart-Snatching Evil Demon does not come from itself.
As the name implies, it literally plunders the “heart” of other beings.
Like the craftiest of predators, a Heart-Snatching Evil Demon carefully selects a solitary target based on its current abilities, seeking every possible way to quietly kill it and physically extract and consume its heart.
This is not purely for satisfying hunger; the most terrifying aspect of a Heart-Snatching Evil Demon is that with every heart consumed, it gains access to most of the victim’s memories, knowledge, and abilities, even capable of changing its appearance to resemble the victim in life.
As it devours more hearts, it becomes increasingly cunning and powerful, resembling a true living being, but its essence remains that of a cruel demon born from “destruction” and twisted laws, entirely opposed to sentient life.
Due to the similarity of its abilities, some ancient texts recording hidden knowledge also refer to Heart-Snatching Evil Demons as “Little Taotie.”
Any grown Heart-Snatching Evil Demon brings unimaginable horrors, a fact proven time and again throughout the nearly thousand-year history of the Ancient Spirit Realm.
Thus, this seemingly delicate appearance is not its own but that of the last victim mercilessly slaughtered and had their heart eaten by this Heart-Snatching Evil Demon. Such demons cannot actively control their appearance but change automatically based on the source of the last “heart” they consumed.
This is one of the very few methods to combat and identify Heart-Snatching Evil Demons.
It seems that a Peach Blossom Guardian had previously perished at the hands of this demon, and this Heart-Snatching Evil Demon certainly did not just appear in the Ancient Spirit Realm; it might even be the strongest one in the world right now.
As for the last figure, it was even more peculiar.
It looked like a mass of water or some kind of slime, floating in the air defying physical laws, forming a ring-shaped object that kept rotating, resembling a hollow water loop.
The water loop measured about two to three feet in diameter, lacking eyes, ears, lips, and any human limbs or organs, not radiating any presence. Even Vilyric couldn’t immediately identify what it was.
Although the last three figures were still new to the Priestess, judging by the identities of Misty Veil, Pharmacist, and Fleeting Void, it was likely that all six figures were Seven Day Demon Lords or similar goons in cahoots.
After all, such terrifying evil demons were almost enemies of all living beings, and ordinary people would either fearfully avoid them or band together to attack, never choosing to cooperate with them.
The ancient battlefield was devoid of any human presence, and the six figures appeared simultaneously, almost immediately locking eyes with the two standing at the center, Vilyric and her companion, forming a tacit understanding and walking toward them.
The sound of Xiao Kong’s soft laughter reached the Priestess’s ear.
“How quickly they’ve breached all six gates and found someone waiting for them who doesn’t run away but chooses to fight… It seems these guys have come prepared and are determined to succeed.”
“Yeah, they should be from the same group that attacked Peach Blossom Peak before. Look at that one in white called Pharmacist; it’s surprising that after taking that hit, they are still safe and sound. We have to be careful.”
While she continued chatting nonchalantly with Xiao Kong, Vilyric was already surreptitiously channeling the surging magical power within her body, ready for summoning and battle at any moment, quietly dispersing Spiritual Points around to search for something.
She was searching for that Princess Ling.
After all, if the goal was merely to invade the Chaos Secret Realm, they could have acted at any time. Why wait until now?
Thus, it was clear that the key to this operation actually rested on the whereabouts of the elusive Miss Hen.
They needed to find her to do something within this ancient battlefield and achieve their objectives. Since they had already initiated their actions, it meant that Hen must have also arrived in this space.
It was… very close.
