Chapter 88

Chapter 29: The Law of Reversal

Lucas’s sword cleaved through the flesh cocoon that was coiled in the center of the Mirror World.

But Vilyric understood that this was merely the surface; the true source of the astonishing magical aura she felt was not merely the cocoon itself and had not been severely wounded by this simple strike.

The tragic appearance of the flesh cocoon was the result of it absorbing all the impact and cutting force to protect what lay within.

“Chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp!!!!!!”

Somewhere, vocal cords emitted a harsh noise. Even though she couldn’t understand its meaning, she could roughly infer it was expressing anger.

The center of the flesh cocoon had been nearly split in two, but the power of that strike was mostly neutralized by the outer layer, failing to penetrate deeply.

The bulging mass squirmed rapidly, and the dark red energy released from its depths allowed it to heal at an astonishing speed. It seemed to be thoroughly enraged, wiggling multiple flailing tentacles that coalesced into a giant fist.

*Clang!*

The flesh fist collided with Lucas’s sword back, producing a crisp metallic sound.

The Guardian of Heaven, having blocked this punch, swung his weapon back, the golden greatsword adorned with countless holy runes cleaving directly through the fist, embedding itself several meters deep.

But strangely, the creature’s recovery abilities suddenly surged, reaching an astonishing level. Although Lucas could easily break through its defenses, he hadn’t managed to sever it completely, as the initially cut section was already squirming to heal itself.

By the time the great sword sliced through the converged tentacle mass and broke free, this thing had nearly healed and struck back with a fist once again, crashing into the Golden-armored warrior’s back.

“Tsk.”

Lucas clicked his tongue in discontent.

Such a feeble attack naturally couldn’t cause any harm to him, a level 80 specialized tank, but the opponent’s recovery speed was abnormally fast.

His sword, designed to break evil and disrupt magic, should, in theory, suppress regular healing methods unless they were as powerful as Vilyric; so why was it like this?

Confusion aside, as a guardian, he couldn’t stop fighting the enemy, turning to slash at the massive fist rushing toward him once more.

“Xiao Guang, do you see anything?”

Miss Vilyric, watching from the sidelines, did not rush into action.

In terms of attributes, magical power, and combat skills, Lucas should be overwhelmingly superior to the opponent. Even the magical core hidden deep within the flesh cocoon was not as potent as the level 80 Guardian of Heaven.

But still, the enemy was managing to trade blows with Lucas without him even using his trump card.

Though the latter’s weaker attack power and role as a flesh tank played a part, that ridiculously fast recovery speed also had a significant effect.

As an observer, she had seen more than once that when Lucas’s great sword sliced through the flesh fist, the core within the cocoon glimmered with dark red light, followed by the opponent’s restoration back to its original state—a sight that even made Vilyric think of a magic spell known as time reversal.

But clearly, that was not the same thing nor was it a healing spell familiar to the Priestess, so how had this thing achieved such rapid recovery?

“Master, it should be the law of reversal. In this mirror world, the laws are inverted, and control lies with that disgusting entity.”

“What do you mean?”

Since arriving in this world, Vilyric had heard the term “law” mentioned more than once, and not long ago, she even fought against something that wielded the “Death” law.

But from that instance, the so-called laws seemed more like attack effects in the “Phantasm” realm, while this thing in front of her…she found it perplexing; there had been no effect called “inversion” in the games.

“It reverses, that thing reversed the damage it took. Hmph, just a little trick.”

Little Dragon Daughter smirked disdainfully.

This was indeed her first encounter with such a strange power; “inversion” likely wasn’t a conventional world law, but rather because the mirror reflected the real world, creating a completely inverted subspace, flipping common sense upside down.

This power of reversal, in theory, could reverse all known things.

For example, the simplest reversal from life to death, turning damage into healing, or further still, reversing gravity into thrust, making a sword aimed at the enemy point back at oneself.

Even reaching extremes could enable precise detailing, making the brave cowardly, transforming saints into little people, and turning lovers into enemies might also be theoretically feasible.

But, all of this was just in theory.

With the power of reversal, there naturally comes resistance. Coarsely conducting the operation might be possible, but the greater the degree of reversal, the more intricate the manipulation, the stronger the target, the exponentially more difficult it becomes.

From the fact that the fleshy mass didn’t even make Lucas’s sword turn back on him, it was clear that its power of reversal could only manage to reverse the damage it received or macro-level life and death state transformations—this was the simplest level of operation.

Although Little Dragon Daughter seemed a bit silly in front of her master, it was just because she found insignificant matters beneath her. In reality, her judgment regarding battle and various powers was even sharper than that of the Priestess, who had once been human.

Once she shared these deductions with her master, Vilyric gradually understood the opponent’s operations, feeling a sense of enlightenment wash over her.

At the same time, she also realized some things that Xiao Guang had either missed or simply deemed unworthy of attention.

For instance, why the flesh cocoon had created a mirror world and drawn so many living beings into it as sustenance.

The key lay within the cocoon.

Hypothetically, when the creature inside truly hatched, if it allowed this “law of reversal” to extend beyond the mirrored world and even amplify further, then the reason behind this immensely grand scheme spanning three hundred years could be somewhat understood.

This was a relatively reasonable hypothesis.

It was just unclear who the true mastermind was—was it the being inside the cocoon? Or was there someone else pulling the strings?

Regardless of whether it was to offer an explanation to the millions of innocent souls that became sacrifices or out of Vilyric’s own values, she could not allow this thing to continue growing.

It must end now.

“Lucas, retreat.”

“Yes, my lord.”

The unharmed Golden-armored warrior raised his sturdy wings, slicing through the three flesh fists surrounding him, easily withdrawing from the battle.

Throughout, he had been the one suppressing the enemy. Although its bizarre recovery power prevented Lucas from completely vanquishing it, the disparity in speed and power between the two sides was too great. The fleshy cocoon could employ all manner of tricks yet still barely scratched him.

This was still the case as Lucas hadn’t gone all out.

Thus, the cocoon’s level should not be too high, definitely not exceeding level 80.

If one disregarded the recovery ability, it was roughly akin to the Death Star he had encountered in the Beast Kingdom.

In other words, it was at most the level of a Pseudo-God.

Even after nurturing for three hundred years and absorbing the souls of a million people, reaching such a level felt somewhat strange to Vilyric, but…

So what?

The Black-haired Girl slowly stepped forward, facing the terrifying flesh fist head-on, raising the Flame Staff gifted by Nastaia high.
