Chapter 672
Chapter 103: Breaking In, Throne of Immortality!
In a remarkably spacious private villa, on the surface, it appeared to be an uninhabited empty house. However, as two girls effortlessly soared over the high walls with their wings and stepped inside, they immediately sensed an obvious anomaly.
A faint whiff of decay hung in the air. Although the sisters had never encountered true Undead, they had garnered a fairly deep understanding of these entities that forcibly existed in the world using the bodies of the deceased, thanks to a certain Priestess’s description.
Clearly, this villa had been specially treated. While there were no obvious magical barriers, the plants growing in the courtyard, along with certain paints emitting a rich yet unobtrusive odor, effectively masked the smell of death, preventing passersby from noticing it.
However, once inside, that slightly suppressed scent could not possibly escape the sharp senses of a divine being like an angel.
They confirmed their target was inside, and since they had already been detected, entering was straightforward.
In a manner reminiscent of their actions on the Holy Spirit Path, the sisters didn’t look for hidden switches around but instead used a meteorite to create a massive pit in the courtyard.
The ground cracked and collapsed under the force of the massive stone, naturally revealing the concealed entrance.
One must admit, this was a brilliant time-saving strategy.
Everywhere one looked, it seemed that things meant to hide away always preferred to be underground. Naturally, the secret passage beneath this villa didn’t span nearly half a forest like the Holy Spirit Path, and its layout and design were not so shabby, more suited for habitation.
Overall, if this villa’s courtyard were expanded by two or three times, it would roughly amount to about ten thousand square meters, which obviously wouldn’t hide too much. Hence, they designed this underground base with a spiral, layered structure to maximize space within limited confines.
It also spared the sisters the effort of finding their way.
“Lightning Barrage!”
With a flourish of her staff, a massive hammer formed from a swirling wind and debris was launched, striking continuously against the thick stone door before them, causing it to explode into fragments, sending a dozen black cloaked figures flying backward.
Casually, the girl stood proudly wrapped in her magical shield.
“Sister, these so-called Undead don’t seem that scary at all. Although they certainly have tough lives, they can still be easily taken down. Look, some of them are even starting to show signs of fear, not nearly as intimidating as that adult described!”
As they surged downward, the various magics summoned by Miss Renée had thoroughly crushed at least a hundred hidden enemies lurking underground who were continuously counterattacking them. Her mentality had shifted from a hint of anxiety at first to one of nonchalance now.
After all, the disparity in strength was simply too great.
Perhaps to ordinary folk, these elite Undead, boasting at least mithril or even superior qualities, were bizarre monsters nearly impossible to kill by conventional means. However, for true divine beings, even if Leila and Renée were only at the initial stage of Transcendent Level, they were already more than capable of overwhelming these opponents, whose levels were nearly 30 levels below theirs.
While accompanying a certain Priestess, the sisters had encountered beings that far surpassed human intelligence, often semi-divine or even true divine entities, yet they had not realized that their own strength had already transcended over 99% of life forms in this world.
At least, dealing with a division of the Throne of Immortality was utterly trivial.
However, compared to her increasingly proud sister, the more level-headed Leila did not let down her guard and even solemnly interjected.
“Alright, let’s be serious. What we’re seeing now should only be the surface-level defense of this underground base. Since it’s called the Throne of Immortality, the strongest presence would naturally be the Throne itself. We’ve just taken care of some small fry; there’s nothing to be proud of.”
“Moreover… to be honest, there’s a certain unsettling aura continuously flowing through the air here. The truly terrifying enemies haven’t shown themselves yet, so don’t…”
“Swish!”
Before she could finish, the girl suddenly raised her spear, already stained with black blood, like a bolt of white lightning. Without looking back, she arced gracefully in the air, slicing a small figure hiding in the girls’ blind spot, ready to ambush the Mage, into two halves!
The sharp force hidden in the spearhead erupted again, instantly shredding the opponent’s body into several grotesque pieces, collapsing helplessly to the ground.
Of course, it wasn’t that Leila had some strange hobby of dismembering corpses; it was merely safer to be thorough when facing such tenacious foes. She wouldn’t let her guard down for a moment.
“Eww… these guys are really kind of gross…”
As she dispelled and instantly recast her magical barrier, now splattered with coagulated black blood from the corpse, Renée couldn’t help but wrinkle her nose in disgust. Once again, she summoned several invisible wind arrows, piercing the foreheads of some enemies that charged alongside her sister’s attack, sending them flying faster, pinning them against the stone wall behind.
Sky magic primarily manipulated air currents and meteorites, somewhat similar to a combination of wind and earth elements found in conventional magic. However, summoning meteorites wasn’t very convenient in this relatively confined underground space, so Renée was focusing on the former as her primary combat tactic.
Transcendent Level Experts inherently possess the capability to match thousands in battle; add to that the innate synergy and bond of the sisters, dealing with these low-level foes was no threat to them at all.
However, due to the sisters’ swift advance and their unfamiliarity with the surrounding environment, they found themselves temporarily surrounded in the central passage of this two-layered underground chamber after breaking through that door to the lower levels.
Here, the enemy’s resistance seemed particularly fierce, but part of them began to retreat, likely sensing fear. As a result, noticeable weaknesses soon appeared in their defensive lines.
But suddenly, Leila, positioned ahead, furrowed her brows and chose not to speak further. Instead, she communicated silently with her sister using her mind.
【Something feels off.】
“Eh?”
【These guys… Did you notice? The underground passage here is starting to fork; we might be approaching the deepest part. However, even though there are several exits, the majority of them would be met with the same extremely frenzied obstruction if we show any signs of moving towards them. Only this route…】
Again using her eyes to discreetly indicate a relatively dim and particularly deep exit nearby, Leila communicated silently with her mind.
【The enemies in this direction are exhibiting particularly weak combat power; it’s just as you said… fear. Renée, don’t you think that’s suspicious? Why is there such a difference in battle will and quality among members of the same organization?】
At last, Miss Renée caught on, gasping in surprise and hurriedly closing her mouth while maintaining her magical barrier. She responded with her thoughts.
【Sister, do you mean that these guys aren’t really scared but are intentionally luring us towards a certain location?】
【I think that’s highly possible.】
【Hmm… so then we…】
Sensing her sister’s confusion and hesitation, Leila merely smiled and shook her head. With another wave of her spear, she once again cleaved through several Undead that recklessly charged at them due to their change in direction, effortlessly dispatching them and flicking the black blood off her weapon.
【What else is there to consider? It’s simple. Where the defenses are the tightest indicates where they least want us to go, and that is our most logical destination. Heh, a slightly clever enemy… is far easier to outsmart than a fool.】
