Chapter 67

Chapter 8: Two Newbie Adventurers

As a secondary city in the United Kingdom, Flame Dragon City naturally has an equally secondary branch of the Adventurer’s Guild.

The level of an Adventurer’s Guild is primarily assessed by the number of mid-tier and high-level adventurers it holds, as well as the difficulty and richness of the quests available.

In a tertiary city like West Sea City, Ink Steel level represents the highest combat power, and the available quests generally only reach around A-rank; any higher would be beyond their capacity and a waste of manpower and resources.

However, the Adventurer’s Guild in Flame Dragon City is a grade higher, usually housing Earth-tier adventurers, and may even have Sky-tier adventurers, with the quantity and difficulty of quests further elevated.

As for legendary-level adventurers, they only exist in top-tier first cities like Wanku Fortress or the City of Courage, which have populations exceeding a million.

Moreover, the Adventurer’s Guild in the City of Courage serves as the central guild for all adventurers worldwide, with at least three resident legendary-level adventurers and over a hundred Earth and Sky-tier.

Back to the matter at hand.

Miss Vilyric certainly didn’t decide on a whim to register as an adventurer.

On one hand, being an adventurer is a common and welcomed profession in the United Kingdom, allowing one to blend in almost everywhere. It saves one from having to come up with tales of being a lady or a maid like this time…

On the other hand, the Adventurer’s Guild itself is a massive hub for information gathering; events and interpersonal relations in the entire city, aside from those deliberately concealed, will appear in the form of quest postings.

These were practical experiences that Miss Vilyric had heard from a certain legendary adventurer.

If something significant had indeed occurred in Flame Dragon City, there would surely be some clues to be found here.

At this time, around two or three in the afternoon, it wasn’t yet the peak hour for quest submissions, so the foot traffic in the Adventurer’s Guild was relatively sparse. Miss Vilyric easily found an unattended service counter and brought Little Dragon Daughter along.

The counter’s attendant was a young lady who looked about twenty-four or twenty-five, quite a beauty.

In her prime youth, she had developed a rather mature figure, her well-endowed chest wrapped inside a standard work outfit, the collar slightly open to reveal an inviting and imaginative cleavage without a hint of excess exposure.

Her brown hair was neatly braided and coiled on top of her head, covered by a circular hat emblazoned with the Adventurer’s Guild logo—the crossed bow and sword design, wearing white silk gloves. Though her smile was somewhat formulaic, it still conveyed a sense of professionalism and approachability, making her quite likable, clearly a product of proper training.

“Hello, welcome to the Adventurer’s Guild. How may I assist you?”

Seeing Miss Vilyric and Xiao Guang, the attendant’s eyes brightened immediately, and her smile became more genuine and friendly.

Well, how could she not? With such good looks, Miss Vilyric had painstakingly crafted this body, inch by inch, confident in its perfect fit to her attributes… cough cough.

My attributes have actually become me.

“Hello, Miss. We’d like to register as adventurers.”

A certain age-unknown priestess jumped in with a casual inquiry.

“Register…?”

The attendant hesitated for a moment. She initially assumed these two lovely girls, especially the black-haired girl radiating an air of nobility, were there to post a quest.

However, she clearly had a high work ethic; she quickly recovered and didn’t underestimate the young-looking Miss Vilyric and the others. She smiled and nodded, pulling out two sheets of paper from beneath the counter.

“Understood. Please fill out these two forms. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.”

“Okay, thank you, Miss.”

Miss Vilyric shot a sweet smile at the attendant. It’s hard to deny that her attitude toward men and beautiful women is quite different…

Receiving the thin white sheets, Miss Vilyric briefly scanned the contents, finding them to be pretty basic.

Name, gender, age, profession, outdoor survival experience, combat experience—just these, without too much personal privacy.

Since the United Kingdom does not allow other races to settle, anyone discovered would essentially be exiled, so there’s not even a racial category on the form, presumably defaulting to human.

Of course, it’s said that only the Adventurer’s Guild in the United Kingdom operates this way; in other countries, adventurer races aren’t restricted.

Name: Vilyric

Gender: Female

Age: 18

Profession: Priestess

Outdoor Survival Experience: Yes, Combat Experience: Yes.

After filling it out, Miss Vilyric helped the not-so-fluent Little Dragon Daughter fill one out too, listing her profession simply as an all-purpose warrior and her age as 18, just like her.

After all, nobody would know; it’s just some casual improvisation. No need to actually write 372.

With a population in the United Kingdom reaching hundreds of millions and vast territories, in a data network-lacking environment, even those in power couldn’t figure out the information of each citizen.

So here, many places don’t even have anything like identification cards as on Blue Star; typically, a person’s identity is recognized based on their social connections.

For travelers like Miss Vilyric, being an undocumented resident is quite common, but as long as they register their adventurer identity, the information on this form would gradually get sent to every Adventurer’s Guild worldwide, serving as an alternative identification.

“Miss Vilyric and… Miss Xiao Guang, understood. Establishing your profiles and making badges will take some time. Before that, we need to conduct a preliminary assessment of your strength. Could you both kindly move to the back for some basic tests?”

“Sure.”

With the help of another attendant called in, the duo proceeded to the testing area of the guild for a simple evaluation of their strength.

Of course, this assessment was not like some academy’s classic initiation where you just rub a crystal and either get a pat on the back or explode it.

Adventurers are actual adult workers; it’s not like they face death nine times out of ten, but they often encounter danger, so all those flashy talents and potentials are pointless; the only measure is real strength.

The Adventurer’s Guild has specialized testers responsible for evaluating new adventurers’ entry levels through actual combat. The one testing Miss Vilyric and her partner was likely around the Ink Steel level, similar to Uncle Lester they encountered when they first arrived.

Generally speaking, newly registered adventurers rank anywhere from entry-level to Copper level, approximately levels 5 to 15; even the stronger ones rarely exceed Silver.

Having a level 20 or higher Ink Steel expert for testing could judge the upper limits of the newcomers’ strength while ensuring safety.

After all, most people willing to become adventurers would register early, while those who are uninterested would never touch it in their lives.

Those who suddenly switched paths halfway, having already trained but decidirng to become adventurers, are still relatively rare.

However, this unfortunate tester today had the misfortune of encountering two…

In short, when the middle-aged man in a black martial arts uniform, exuding an air of a master, declared, “You both can come at me together…”

He then got slapped into the wall by a certain golden-haired dragon daughter, and within moments, another priestess completely healed his shattered bones with a cheerful smile, wrapping up the test.

“S-Silver level!”

After proclaiming that, the poor test proctor could only flee in disgrace, not even daring to meet the cold gaze of Little Dragon Daughter.

It’s not that he thought these two were only that strong; it’s just that for newbie adventurers, the max assessment level is Silver, and to continue leveling up, they had to complete higher-ranked quests.

“It looks like we got lucky! Are there any more tests? Miss in charge?”

Miss Vilyric shyly smiled at the guide, who was already in a daze.

She had reminded her pet to take it easy, yet somehow, they almost knocked the guy out. Had it not been for the shield she sneaked onto that uncle, she probably would have used resurrection magic instead of healing…

In any case, they should have passed, right?
