Chapter 514

Chapter 145: The Two Sides of the World

“Hmm?”

After a brief moment of confusion, the Priestess quickly understood the implication behind Xi Fu Lin’s words.

“You mean… it couldn’t be about me, right? Just to clarify, I haven’t gone off to battle the gods in any Twilight War.”

Clearly, she had only been in this world for less than two years. Although there were many things she still didn’t understand, Miss Vilyric wasn’t about to take the blame for events that happened over a thousand years ago, nor did she think she could possibly annihilate so many deities by herself.

You see, Miss Vilyric was just a peace-loving, harmless priestess.

The Life Goddess smiled helplessly.

“Where did you come up with that? I’m not doubting you, but I see a possibility in you. Your combat against the withering made me realize that gods aren’t necessarily the absolute strongest. There’s a dragon that can contend with the main god without a divine spark and you, who possesses an entirely new divine spark I’ve never heard of. Such occurrences haven’t appeared in thousands of years.”

“Vilyric, I trust you, so I won’t ask where you’re from. I just want to remind you of something: there might truly be terrible things out there in the infinitely vast external world that could threaten you and me, so please don’t be careless.”

“Hmm… I never thought I was invincible… But thank you for your concern.”

Just as Xi Fu Lin trusted her, the Priestess also had considerable faith in the Life Goddess, who had helped and supported her due to their serendipitous meeting. Since they rarely communicated, Miss Vilyric decided to clarify some matters.

“By the way, according to your earlier theory about overlapping worlds, the normal passageways between worlds should be on the fringes, like in the Kingdom of Azure, right? However, as far as I know, there’s an entrance connecting to other worlds in the Mountains of Ten Thousand Demons, located at the center of the continent. You mentioned the barrier here is weakening; what’s going on with that?”

“Well… this can be roughly divided into two situations.”

Xi Fu Lin set aside the wooden box used for the demonstration. From the occasional scenery appearing behind her, it seemed she was in the wooden cabin atop the Divine Tree. In fact, the great Life Goddess hardly ever left home, spending her days tinkering away with who knows what.

She extended two long, slender fingers.

“The first situation, which I call interdimensional jumping, usually occurs when there’s a clear crossing coordinate or when this world actively provides summoning or sacrificial guides.”

“This method can significantly shorten the distance between two worlds and enable a jump in a short time, but the cost of such summoning is typically very high, and it’s like temporarily breaking through the world barrier. According to the rule that stronger individuals face harsher rejection, any arriving entity will never be too powerful, and only one to a few beings can traverse before the passage is quickly repaired by the world’s power.”

“Never too strong? Specifically, does that mean it’s difficult for those above the divine level, like on Aibus’s side, to pass through?”

In response to Vilyric’s question, Xi Fu Lin merely smiled lightly.

“You’re thinking too generously about the world. As far as I know, accommodating outsiders is a burden for every world, and naturally, the weaker they are, the better. A small passage opened by this method can accommodate up to level six… Let me think, I believe they call it transcendent level now? Transcendent level is the limit; above level seven, the world will absolutely not permit such smuggling.”

Hmm… So, beings like pseudo-gods and above can’t directly come to this world…

What Xi Fu Lin said matched what Miss Vilyric had heard from the Kingdom Guardian, Miss Edith, back when they discussed the overly powerful “Twilight Council.” Edith had clearly stated that those members found it hard to descend personally into this world, so they could only interfere by selecting “envoy members,” meaning they weren’t entirely defenseless.

But if that’s the case, not to mention Vilyric herself, even that player from another world, the level 80 “Gatekeeper” Min Chen, completely exceeded this limit. How did they get here?

“I see. What about the other situation?”

“The other situation is a bit more complex.”

Picking up the small wooden box beside her again, Xi Fu Lin tapped on it, producing a light “dong dong” sound.

“Vilyric, what can you associate with this sound?”

“Associate?”

The Priestess looked at the smiling Goddess and immediately rolled her eyes in exasperation.

“Come on now, we’re discussing serious matters. Can we not play riddles? I mean, something that gets knocked will make a sound? Force is reciprocal?”

“Cough, what even is that… Vilyric, you’re overthinking it.”

Xi Fu Lin couldn’t help but laugh as she revealed the answer.

“I mean very simply, from the sound, you can tell that this wooden box is hollow.”

With a casual wave of her hand, she brushed over the surface of the box, and without any visible effort, the side facing Vilyric instantly vanished, revealing an empty interior.

“The world we live in can be analogized in this form. As I’ve mentioned, the edges between worlds overlap, forming various surfaces. Just like this box, multiple worlds combining together create a special internal space, which does not have specific physical concepts; it is purely composed of energy or spiritual thoughts—a fundamental world shared by multiple realms.”

“Or you can understand the fundamental world as the trunk of a tree, while the external worlds are branches extending from that tree. The significance of the fundamental world is to provide ‘raw materials’ for the material worlds.”

“In the gods’ era, we referred to the space that carries soul energy as the ‘Upper Level,’ while the space accommodating magical and elemental energies as the ‘Lower Level.’ The Upper Level and Lower Level are the truly opposite worlds to where we currently stand, so the connection points can appear anywhere.”

With a flick of her hand, a misty blue light filled the entire interior of the wooden box. Xi Fu Lin waved her hand again, and the previously vanished side of the box magically reappeared before Vilyric. She then tapped on it again, and the sound became prominently heavy and murky.

“Got it, Vilyric?”

The black-haired girl nodded in surprise.

This is truly a fascinating and incredible world structure, almost entirely contrasting with the planetary universe theories back on the Blue Star, yet Vilyric couldn’t say it was wrong.

Because based on what she had seen since arriving in this world, both Aibus and the current location of the Priestess indeed did not function like planets, and even the concepts of stars and moons seemed to vary greatly.

“I roughly understand now, so you’re saying the ‘Upper Level’ and the ‘Lower Level’ are essentially right beneath our feet, on the other side of this land?”

“Yes… You can interpret it that way, but there’s definitely a distinction. It’s not like digging straight down will lead you there, so don’t go doing anything reckless… The existence and form of the fundamental world differ greatly from the material world. In the past, there were dedicated deities managing it, but now… they probably all have fallen.”
