Chapter 459

Chapter 90: The Town, Green Grass, and Gentle Breeze

Due to the excessive entourage surrounding those two important figures, Miss Vilyric had no intention of going over to greet them. Instead, she waved casually at a distance, signaling her arrival. Miss Lan was quick to notice and informed Princess Mona, who was nearby.

Then, the negotiation team set off.

This formal negotiation had received the direct authorization of the Queen of the United Kingdom, Liliya Meikailande. Princess Mona would represent her fully, making on-the-spot decisions and judgments, with Acting City Lord Lan Tuls assisting her.

Upon reaching the North City Gate, the guard troops dispatched by the Northern Army were already lined up waiting. Since this was a peace talk rather than an invasion, Mona did not bring too many soldiers, only two elite legions of ten thousand served as honor guards and insurance.

Of course, it wasn’t that the United Kingdom was utterly indifferent to the princess’s safety; over two hundred thousand main forces of the Northern Army were stationed not far outside Demon Town, ready to react at a moment’s notice should anything happen at the negotiation site.

To show sincerity, Mona brought along several important magical beasts rescued from poacher gangs, such as Nitira Mingjiao, the young chief of the Merman Tribe. However, the significant figure, Noviya Moonshadow, was deemed too important to accompany the negotiation team and would instead be officially sent back with other primary victims.

After all, there were far too many of the latter, and properly arranging these long-absent victims would be a major topic in the upcoming negotiations.

Under military protection, the journey proceeded without any incidents, and half an hour later, Mona’s group of over a thousand people arrived at the designated location called Clovis Town.

The reason for selecting this place as the negotiation site was not due to any special features; it just happened to be built on the official road at the intersection of the United Kingdom and the Mountains of Ten Thousand Demons. Originally, it served as a rest stop for merchants heading north before entering the mountains, technically situated outside the boundaries of the United Kingdom but not within the area of the Mountains, making it suitable for the current context.

Naturally, due to the worsening situation between both parties in recent months, this once fairly prosperous border town had long been abandoned. Most human inhabitants had either fled back to Demon Town for refuge or met their demise at the claws of magical beasts, leaving the town looking rather desolate from a distance.

Once the army stationed a kilometer outside Clovis, Mona and Lan led hundreds of elite guards, including the Shadow People and various administrative personnel, along with Vilyric, towards the town as planned.

From a distance, they spotted dozens of demons standing at the entrance of the town.

Although the leader was still that guy known as “Nan Dao,” the number was overwhelmingly less than that of the humans. However, the magical beings that appeared in human form were clearly not weak, and besides Walter’s faction, there were many fresh faces who seemed to have come down from the mountains with Iwen as tribal representatives.

The customary formalities were, of course, unnecessary to elaborate on. After the representatives from both sides introduced themselves and exchanged pleasantries, the main negotiation members proceeded to the town’s central meeting hall to commence formal discussions.

Having a clear grasp of intelligence on both sides, Vilyric wasn’t overly worried about whether the negotiations would succeed. It was evident that the United Kingdom represented by Mona was sincere in seeking peaceful coexistence, while the magical beings, despite their differences, were mostly inclined to avoid large-scale conflicts with humanity.

The reason she made this special trip was primarily because she was concerned about unexpected complications. After all, Vilyric still couldn’t fathom what the summoning alchemist and Aileen aimed to achieve by orchestrating this series of events.

Starting a war and suppressing the Mountains of Ten Thousand Demons were the objectives of Tyler Tuls and the Tuls Family, but that mysterious figure, Sylvester Burwell, clearly had other intentions.

Edwina and Tilysha went to the negotiation site to listen in. The latter seemed quite interested in the grand affair, while a certain Holy Knight had been assigned by Vilyric to protect her.

The Priestess herself wasn’t fond of long debates or verbal duels. With many strong guards around Mona, along with Edwina and the Grim Reaper’s Scythe team, safety should be assured.

Taking Little Dragon Daughter and Renée, Vilyric spread her wings, and the four flying capable girls easily dodged the crowd and distant military, landing on a high hill at the outskirts of the town.

From here, they could see the entire landscape of Clovis Town, even catching sight of the vast areas surrounding it and the imposing walls of Demon Town in the distance.

“Lady Vilyric, what are we doing here?”

As soon as they landed, Renée folded her white wings and asked this question.

Glancing at the three-story flat-roofed stone building in the town center where Mona and the others were holding discussions, the black-haired girl chuckled lightly, shaking her head. Then, she lifted her white robe and plopped down comfortably onto the soft grass, stretching lazily.

“I’m not doing anything. Just looking for a spot with a good view to wait for things down there to resolve peacefully. And if someone tries to stir trouble, we’ll just handle it casually~”

Just as she shifted her gaze from the surroundings, Renée’s mouth slightly opened in surprise as she quietly exclaimed.

“Eh? Do you mean someone will cause a ruckus? Who is it?”

“Who knows? It’d be best if no one did, after all. I certainly don’t want to work so hard just for something messy to pop up at such a crucial moment.”

With a hint of curiosity, Renée, standing elegantly behind the Priestess with her hands crossed in front, smiled and interjected.

“It seems Lady Vilyric is particularly keen on adjusting the relations between the United Kingdom and the Mountains of Ten Thousand Demons. Initially, we just came here for a leisurely adventure, what changed your mind? Was it Princess Mona’s appearance?”

“Well… it can’t be said that it has nothing to do with Mona, but you see, looking at those poor slaves, although I don’t necessarily want to get involved, I still feel any capability means one should do something, correct the situation here. I can’t just sit back and watch it all deteriorate just because it’s troublesome.”

“I see~”

Renée didn’t say much more, but even from behind, Vilyric could sense her delight in her brief tone.

What’s this girl so happy about?

A gentle breeze swirled around, lifting the girl’s smooth, waterfall-like hair in an enchanting manner. The sound of grass rustling brushed past her ears.

After a brief silence, as if trying to recapture the topic or merely mentioning it casually, Vilyric suddenly, almost to herself, asked softly.

“Hey, do you think I’ve changed?”

“Of course not. You’ve always been very kind to me, my lady.”

Without hesitation, a certain Giant Dragon Miss replied.

“Um… What exactly do you mean by change, Lady Vilyric? If it’s about your body, I can clearly assure you that there hasn’t been any change! You’ve always been so adorable and perfect, making one want to get close and protect you~”

Immediately after, Xiao Guang chimed in with a teasing tone, causing the black-haired girl’s pink earlobes to blush a faint red. She angrily turned away, but the Winged Woman had already retreated first, leaving only a bewildered little sister behind.

“Renée! Since when did you learn to be so naughty!”

“Puhahaha~ I’m just speaking the truth! Lady Vilyric is so adorable, doesn’t it make sense to acknowledge how wonderful you are sometimes?”
