Chapter 448
Chapter 79: No Middleman to Make a Profit
After locating Noviya Moonshadow and confirming her identity, Mona immediately dispatched guards to ensure her safety, while summoning the accompanying doctor to further treat the Little Wolf Cub, ensuring everything was foolproof.
With the various matters handled, dawn was approaching.
Although exhausted, Mona couldn’t rest; she needed to head to the City Lord’s Mansion immediately to deal with the confirmed collusion of the Demon Town Lord, Tyler Tuls, with poaching gangs, and quickly stabilize the situation in the crucial northern border stronghold.
Additionally, she had to relay the results here via communication magic to the Queen far away in the City of Courage, and discuss subsequent measures regarding the Mountains of Ten Thousand Demons now that Noviya had been found, among other matters.
A mountain of problems kept crashing down, and even Vilyric was worried for the little princess, whose eyes were slightly puffy and spirit a bit worn after a sleepless night, but each matter was urgent and needed immediate resolution.
Being in a position of authority was truly not easy… after all, Mona was just an ordinary person under level 5.
To protect the fragile body of the young girl, the Priestess had cast restorative magic on her and provided long-lasting support buffs, yet she still needed Mona to rest as soon as possible, after all, humans have such weak bodies.
However, Vilyric wouldn’t be working overtime with Little Mona. After arranging matters, the princess headed to the City Lord’s Mansion with the Shadow People, while the priestess, not very interested in those trivial matters, bid them farewell. She and the Little Dragon Daughter returned to the temporary stronghold arranged by Lan, after vigilantly staying aloft in the sky the entire night without encountering any sudden situations.
Walter and the batch of demons were nowhere to be found; they likely remained lurking at Miss Lan’s doorstep. Edwina and Leila, however, had already returned.
With so much happening in the city overnight, there were conflicts everywhere. The few girls sent out to gather intel surely noticed something was off, yet their understanding of the situation was limited. With Vilyric not around, they obviously didn’t dare to take random actions.
Worried about the change in situation, none had slept that night, so upon returning, they could only sit in the living room anxiously waiting, and when meeting Vilyric, each had dark circles under their eyes, looking somewhat fatigued.
After all, normal creatures need sleep; not everyone is like the Divine race or Dragon race, able to stay up all night and still be lively.
Vilyric roughly explained what had happened the previous night and retrieved the temporarily loaned “Cognitive Barrier Mask,” then sent the dazed girls back to catch up on sleep.
For her, it didn’t matter; the exceptional physical condition of the divine race made the Priestess feel no fatigue from staying up late. Since the matters in Demon Town were rapidly settling due to Mona’s unexpected appearance, Vilyric still needed to think carefully about the plans ahead.
Oh, but before that, she needed to call back Walter and the others to tell them that “Little Princess” had been found.
Speaking of which, could these demons be a bit dense? They really stayed put all night without moving an inch?
Hmm, it couldn’t be that something unexpected happened, right?
Taking the Little Dragon Daughter out, Vilyric quickly found a group of demons sleeping on the ground in a nearby secluded alley, snoring in a disheveled manner, while a certain Mr. Nan Dao was still glaring at Miss Lan’s door with bloodshot eyes, oblivious even to the two girls approaching from the side.
Well, what a lonely surprise.
“I say… what are you guys doing?”
“Whoaah!”
The sudden appearance of the black-haired girl startled Walter, who instinctively reached for the hefty sword at his back, but stopped in his tracks upon seeing the faces of Vilyric and the Little Dragon Daughter.
They silently stared at each other for over three seconds, before Mr. Nan Dao suddenly turned around and began slapping his dozing companions awake, then hurriedly stood up, looking slightly embarrassed as he faced the two girls with peculiar expressions.
“Ahem, uh, Miss Vilyric, we weren’t slacking off! We were just managing our energy… That human you mentioned hasn’t come back yet, I can guarantee that!”
Of course, Miss Lan has been catching thieves all night long, who has the time to come here to monitor you guys…
“I didn’t mean that… whatever. Let’s go, the surveillance mission is canceled. Don’t just stand here like statues, let’s head back for now; I have important news to tell you.”
Leading eight or nine demons back to the temporary stronghold like retrieving lost children, Vilyric sat on the sofa and roughly recounted what had occurred last night to Walter and the others.
“What! The Little Princess has been found? Where is she?!”
Mr. Nan Dao slammed the table, standing up excitedly, but the noise annoyed a certain Giant Dragon Miss, who shot him an irritated glare, prompting him to instantly sit back down, his movements flowing as smoothly as flowing water.
What was this guy performing, some kind of juggling…?
Vilyric cleared her throat, looking at the group of demons before her with hopeful expressions, and nodded.
“Just as I mentioned, the Little Princess from the Human United Kingdom has personally led a team to wipe out most of the poaching gangs entrenched in Demon Town. Besides the previously mentioned Noviya Moonshadow, she also rescued a large number of slaves taken from the Mountains of Ten Thousand Demons and around the world, initially estimating at least over ten thousand.”
“I promised Tiyelu that I would help you find and bring back the ‘Little Princess,’ but things have developed a little differently than I originally planned. Since the royal family of the United Kingdom has intervened, I think it would be more prudent to take Noviya through formal channels. Of course, I will assist in this matter. What do you think?”
“…?”
The demons exchanged glances; finally, as the principal participant, Mr. Nan Dao straightened his posture and put on a serious expression.
“You mean the United Kingdom will voluntarily hand the Little Princess back to us? There can’t be any traps involved, or that they might propose excessively harsh conditions later, right?”
What? So it turns out he’s got some brains when it comes to serious matters.
That actually makes things easier.
After a moment of thought, Vilyric decided to be completely straightforward.
“I’m not afraid to tell you, I actually know the new Queen Liliya Meikailande of the current United Kingdom and the little princess Mona Meikailande, who came to Demon Town to handle this matter; we are quite good friends. As for other humans, at least I can vouch for the attitudes of these two.”
“They are not the kind of fanatical racists. They generally have a friendly and helpful attitude towards outsiders, including those in the Mountains of Ten Thousand Demons. The situation has developed to this point mainly due to certain individuals in the country stirring up conflict and exacerbating tensions. Now that Princess Mona is in charge, that kind of thing should be effectively curbed quickly.”
“I see…”
Walter nodded thoughtfully.
“So you mean, you hope for us to hold an open discussion and organize a handover, allowing humans to formally return the Little Princess to us, right?”
“Yes, that should be approximately it. I can assure you that Mona and the others won’t intentionally create any difficulties, but you’ll likely need to negotiate the details yourself. Additionally, those magical beasts rescued from the black market and the poachers’ hideouts will also need your attention.”
“Haha, Miss Vilyric needn’t be so polite; this is only natural. We are certainly more than willing to welcome back those missing compatriots. Since that’s the case, then in light of your face, discussing it is definitely not a problem.”
Walter stood up alongside the other demons, expressions finally appearing to relax somewhat.
“I’ll send someone back to the mountains right away to inform the Ten Thousand Demons Alliance of this matter. I anticipate a response shortly. Thank you very much, Miss Vilyric!”
