Chapter 443
Chapter 74: Unexpected Reinforcements
With Little Dragon Daughter actively guarding the entrance, Miss Vilyric removed her mask and returned to her original form. Seeing Uncle Lester and the ones with bangs had already arrived, she hurriedly left with her pet.
Vilyric could understand the girls’ feelings, just like Leila and Renée back then, being dragged to a foreign land, imprisoned, and faced with danger, they must have been filled with fear and anxiety.
In such times, someone bringing salvation to their side, coupled with the influence of information pollution, it’s only natural for them to react that way.
But Xī was destined to be just a passerby in their lives, like a star or moon hanging in the night sky, meant to be viewed from afar, not touched.
She just needed to calm down, and as the skill’s effects wore off with time, they should be able to return to their normal lives.
Next came the final wrap-up.
By tracking the markers left for Mona, Vilyric quickly confirmed their current location—just south of Demon Town, near the city gate, and they hadn’t moved significantly for a while.
This meant that either they had run into trouble and were entangled and unable to escape, or they had already cornered the remnants of the Ghost Thieves and were in combat. Either way, she needed to hurry over.
To speed things up, Vilyric unfurled her wings with Little Dragon Daughter and flew towards the location of the incident.
Many places in Demon Town were erupting into battle. Hovering high above at night, Miss Priestess could almost see the bright flashes of magic and flames exploding everywhere.
Vilyric hadn’t asked Mona how many people she had sent to eliminate those poaching gangs lurking in the city, but from the current observations, there were at least over twenty spots still engaged in battle.
That was quite an astonishing number! If it weren’t for Little Mona being a royal herself, ordinary folk wouldn’t possess the capacity to gather enough strength to eradicate those entrenched tumors in the city all at once.
And I wonder what’s going on with Tyler Tuls and the acting city lord? It feels like there hasn’t been any movement on that side since the incident began. With such commotion in the city, the lord must know, right? Shouldn’t they be doing something?
After all, if the Ghost Thieves were truly uprooted, their collusion and schemes to spark war wouldn’t remain hidden, and that wouldn’t be a small crime.
Forget it… Regardless of whether there’s a conspiracy, she’ll just deal with whatever comes.
Flying was, of course, much faster than running on the ground. In less than a minute, Vilyric arrived directly above the troops led by Mona.
Not far away loomed the grand shadow of the south city wall, the Shadow People’s dark garb blending seamlessly with the night. It was hard to identify them, and surrounded by these black figures were about a hundred civilians in plain clothes and over ten covered carts.
Little Mona was commanding the situation from a short distance away, flanked by several black-clad Shadow People and four members of the Grim Reaper’s Scythe.
So these guys must be the remnants of the fleeing Ghost Thieves. Though their attire wasn’t a match, when would anyone running away wear their organization’s obvious clothing?
Vilyric had no idea how Mona was planning to find these guys, but since the little princess hadn’t asked for her help, it clearly meant she had a solution already; Miss Priestess couldn’t possibly handle everything by herself.
If she could help her sister successfully rise to the throne during a grand political upheaval involving many factions, handling a mere Ghost Thief gang and some individuals in Demon Town should be a piece of cake.
What truly surprised Vilyric was that the encircled force, wearing armor different from ordinary soldiers, looked oddly familiar.
In fact, this wasn’t the first time Miss Priestess had seen these people, as she almost clashed with them once before.
The Internal Guard Bureau of Demon Town, if she remembered correctly, was fully named the Third Special Team of the Internal Guard Bureau, and their captain, the one leading the charge with a long katana, was a familiar face—a girl with twin tails.
Lan Tuls.
No wonder she hadn’t gone home earlier; she must be blocking the way with her subordinates here. Wait, why is she here…?
It wasn’t surprising that Mona managed to catch up with the Ghost Thieves, but honestly, Lan showing up to assist in such a critical moment was a bit unbelievable.
What on earth happened during the day over there?
Thinking too much wouldn’t help. Vilyric advised Little Dragon Daughter to stay up in the air to continue monitoring the entire battlefield and be on guard for any new enemies, before flapping her white wings down to where Mona was.
“Who goes there!?”
Up in the air, the strongest members of the Grim Reaper’s Scythe reacted first. Captain Soul pulled out his long sword on high alert, but when he recognized Vilyric’s face, he sheepishly sheathed it, casting a somewhat complicated look at the girl’s long white wings behind her.
Miss Priestess landed and retracted her wings. Before the little princess, who was about to show joy, could say anything, Soul stepped forward with an odd expression, cautiously asking in a lowered voice.
“I’ve been concerned about those wings and the unusual aura flowing within you, you’re not human, are you?”
“Huh?”
Unusual aura? What does that even mean?
Vilyric tilted her head, locking eyes with the leader of this legendary adventurer squad, immediately noticing the subtle discomfort on his face, and felt puzzled while also secretly sneering.
Is this guy also a racist? Surely, it can’t be, or else Mona wouldn’t have taken him along for a rescue operation for other races.
But he really seems to care about this issue?
How strange…
“Soul? How rude of you!”
It seemed Little Mona didn’t quite understand why this normally dependable captain would suddenly bring up such a sensitive topic at this moment, but that didn’t stop her from immediately reacting and reproaching him with a slightly annoyed tone.
Even though she was still under 14, Little Mona had a swagger reminiscent of her sister Liliya when angry. Coupled with the aura accumulated from being a Seer, it made the atmosphere feel heavy, making everyone involuntarily hold their breath.
Soul suddenly fell silent, and even the Ferryman from behind tugged at his sleeve and exchanged glances, not sure what they were casually discussing in their team language.
Vilyric noticed the awkward atmosphere and waved her hand dismissively. Although she didn’t quite understand, she never shied away from or evaded such questions.
“I’m indeed not human. Little Mona and Lili… Your Majesty both know this. Am I making you uncomfortable by strolling around the city as an other race?”
If Liliya were still a princess, or during her shaky initial reign, considering the implications, Vilyric might have been a bit more tactful in public. But now that the young queen was firmly seated on the throne, many things could be stated plainly.
Moreover, from sending her little sister to investigate the Demon Town incident and authorizing Mona to publicly announce new laws in the underground black market, Miss Priestess could tell that Liliya likely wanted to change the current state of the United Kingdom.
Since that’s the case, helping push this along wouldn’t hurt.
After all, if you have an opinion, then let’s see what you’re made of!
