Chapter 424

Chapter 55: The Oath of Loyalty

Listening to Xiao Lan’s intermittent narration, Miss Vilyric could roughly confirm that the host of the descent likely wouldn’t possess the memories from the Divine Descent period.

Of course, it was also possible that Xiao Lan’s situation was simply special; after all, she was a slime. According to Xi Fu Lin’s explanation of the principles of Divine Descent, she shouldn’t have met the conditions to sustain Vilyric’s avatar during her descent.

For now, it was worth noting and perhaps testing with another vessel when the opportunity arose.

“Well then, how’s your body? Are you feeling unwell? If you are, I can help treat you!”

“As for my body…”

Upon hearing this, Xiao Lan obediently closed her eyes, seemingly beginning to sense something. She was, after all, a slime, and many aspects differed from ordinary creatures, as Vilyric had experienced before.

Before long, Miss Slime opened her simulated eyes, her face suddenly shifting from confusion to overt shock and joy.

“This… this feeling, have I finally succeeded in evolving?! Incredible, what powerful bloodline strength… But I clearly hadn’t taken your bodily fluid yet?”

“It seems that’s indeed the case. Regardless, a congratulations is in order, Xiao Lan.”

Clearly, the race name displayed on the panel during the possession, now changed to “Radiant Slime,” didn’t just emerge because of the descent state. Quite the opposite; it was likely because Xiao Lan had somehow completed a unique adaptive evolution towards light properties that allowed her to meet the conditions for Vilyric’s avatar to cling to her.

Vilyric herself was somewhat perplexed, as she’d never seen a genuine “Adaptive Mimetic Slime” before and couldn’t decipher its evolution principle. However, it likely had something to do with that purity of light element crystal, which seemed to have been absorbed, given to her by the Priestess.

But being able to resolve this was a good thing. It was best not to provide bodily fluids if it could be avoided, because regardless of the type, it was somewhat embarrassing…

Xiao Lan’s current strength definitely wasn’t at the lv80 level present during Vilyric’s possession; this could be clearly judged by her aura.

However, now that she’d absorbed the high-purity light element crystal, equivalent to at least a 7th-tier magic crystal, she estimated that her attributes wouldn’t lag far behind that Nan Dao at least, and this was just her initial state; she should continue to grow in the future.

The Radiant Slime species had never appeared in any records within games or this world, as far as Vilyric knew.

Slimes, being creatures that fear light and fire, typically thrived in damp, dark underground or dense forests. Fire attribute slimes might occasionally appear in special magma areas, but a Radiant Slime could almost be said to be one of a kind.

This was undoubtedly tied closely to Vilyric’s help, but the traits of this rare “Adaptive Mimetic Slime,” which was on the brink of extinction, were likely indispensable too.

Yet how much combat power it could actually showcase without Vilyric’s possession remained to be seen.

“Since your wish has been fulfilled, though the form is somewhat different, our contract should be formally established, right? You must work hard for me over the next three years ~”

In truth, the Priestess merely intended to make a seemingly ambiguous joke, confirming the matter while also alleviating Xiao Lan’s overly formal attitude. But Xiao Lan took it seriously and nodded vigorously, becoming quite excited and respectfully bowing again.

“Yes! Thank you for your blessing! From today, until you feel disdain for me, Xiao Lan shall be Miss Vilyric’s loyal servant. No matter the task, please feel free to command me!”

Wow, how formal…

It’s making her feel a bit embarrassed.

Watching the kneeling posture of Miss Slime in her cloak, Vilyric suddenly thought of those knights in comics who pledged loyalty and protection to a princess. Hmm… what should one do in such a moment? Extend a hand for a kiss or pat her head?

Wow, what a shameful execution…

Feeling the subtle gaze of a certain Giant Dragon behind her, the Priestess immediately shook her head internally.

Well, that’s enough of that.

“Ahem… alright, you may rise. It seems we’ve basically sorted out the matter promised to Tiyelu… now let’s regroup with your companions.”

“Yes, Miss Vilyric!”

When they returned to the magical beasts, the first to arrive were the Demons who had already completed the cleanup.

Previously, some unscrupulous mercenaries were lurking outside the “Radiant Protection” barrier. They were ordinary soldiers assigned to guard duty. Since they were scattered and few in number, Vilyric didn’t spend time dealing with them.

The Radiant Protection that safeguarded Lulu and the others essentially came from Xiao Lan. Once Vilyric lifted the descent, Miss Slime lost the ability to maintain the 6th-tier spell, and the barrier would naturally start to fade.

So before coming out, Vilyric had instructed Walter and the others to handle this matter immediately, ensuring the magical beasts deprived of protection were safe.

The Priestess surveyed her surroundings and found those scattered soldiers all collapsed on the ground, moaning or even completely fainting.

With two legendary Demon Generals in their team, the Demons naturally had no trouble dealing with these humans averaging around level 10. However, what surprised Vilyric was that the Demons had shown restraint, only rendering them unconscious or breaking their limbs instead of killing them.

Given how ruthlessly they had slaughtered members of the Ghost Thieves earlier, Vilyric had expected them to adopt a “kill at first sight” attitude toward humanity.

“How’s the situation?”

“Very smooth, Miss Vilyric. We’ve rescued all the captured children without any fatalities; the few injuries reported were from initial conflicts when leaving the cave. Iwen is already tending to their wounds.”

The one who stepped forward, while Walter was engaged in an epic duel with the Human Commander, seemed to be Aiste, a blue-gray short-haired, well-endowed Moonshadow Clan lady exuding a nimble aura.

Another legendary figure, seemingly younger than Aiste, was the pure-looking black-haired girl Iwen, who crouched before several magical beast girls who lay on the ground, seemingly dressing their wounds.

Vilyric had already noticed these injured girls prior, and their injuries were actually not severe, so she had left them alone.

“That’s good. I wonder why Tiyelu hasn’t shown up yet… never mind.”

Vilyric turned her gaze back to Walter, who was in a fierce battle with the Human Commander in the distance, shaking her head helplessly before returning her attention to Aiste.

“Since we’ve fulfilled the matter promised to Tiyelu, we’re morally cleared. What are your plans moving forward?”

Aiste, appearing to be straightforward in character, replied without hesitation.

“Oh, we discussed this beforehand. We will dispatch some Demon Generals to escort the children home, while another group will continue infiltrating Demon Town in search of the young prince.”

“Hmm… searching for the young prince, huh…”

The black-haired girl pondered for a moment, resting her chin on her hand.

“Don’t take this the wrong way, but you’ve all been looking in the city for so long with no results, and you even almost lost yourselves this time… frankly speaking, you should’ve found him already. Continuing to search now seems futile.”

Aiste didn’t get angry; she simply shook her head.

“We can’t say that, Miss Vilyric. The actions taken by everyone are not without meaning. Just as you’ve seen, we’ve pinpointed the despicable human group known as the Ghost Thieves that stole the young prince and have hunted down many of their members during this time. Their hefty investment in setting traps confirms that our actions have indeed threatened and affected them, wouldn’t you agree?”

Miss Mage Wolf and the Priestess exchanged glances, with the former showing no sign of being disheartened; clearly, this recent setback hadn’t discouraged her.

“The importance of the young prince, I’m sure Tiyelu has explained to you. We cannot expect you and your companions to continue assisting us, but asking us to give up is utterly impossible.”

“Ugh, what a predicament…”

The black-haired girl scratched her face helplessly, then as if expecting this outcome, she slyly laughed.

“Well then, I can help you search for that little cub, but in return, there’s a condition!”
