Chapter 423

Chapter 54: Clash of Ideals

From when Miss Vilyric ambushed the first demon hunter to the last one turning into a flying charred corpse in terror, it took less than a few dozen seconds.

When the dust finally settled, the commander in the distance gaped in disbelief at the battlefield. There was no longer any life standing beside the girl.

Bored, Vilyric waved her three-section staff, crackling with electricity, completely clean of any blood, and shot a glance at the horrified and furious commander.

Despite being pale due to the overwhelming scene, he still refused to retreat and instead shouted hoarsely for his men to carry out orders once more.

“Damn magical beast!! Fire! Fire again! Blow her up!!!”

“?”

What’s wrong with this guy, has he lost his mind or does he have some deep-seated grudge?

She had already proven the vast strength disparity between them by slaughtering those demon hunters and showing her determination to kill. Why was this human still clinging on like a stubborn piece of gum?

Light gathered once more inside the cannon’s barrel, but anyone present could tell that even after being temporarily restrained and hit with a full barrage, she had taken no damage. How could such a hasty attack possibly succeed?

The soldiers obeyed their commander’s orders, hastening the magical cannon’s power. Perhaps this army truly had rigid discipline, or maybe they had already resigned themselves to dying in battle?

After all, from the fearful expressions on these humans, Vilyric even saw a hint of resolve as if they were prepared to face death.

Heh…

What do they think they are doing? Sacrificing their lives to resist the brutal invader?

After all, the cultural belief of “the other is a different heart” had deeply infiltrated the marrow of the United Kingdom, a massive entity. As members of a special unit meant to combat magical beasts, these soldiers were probably heavily influenced.

Boring… Miss Vilyric had no interest in slaughter or playing the big bad villain.

Alright, let’s end the fun here; it’s about time anyway.

The girl retracted her weapon and simply closed her eyes.

“Fire!!”

“Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom!!!”

Except for that largest special magical cannon, all the dragon bone cannons roared once more, shooting beams of light toward the golden Miss Slime, who stood with her arms down, looking defenseless.

However.

“Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.”

The divine flames of a bright gold suddenly ignited from all the magical cannons that had just discharged, instantly turning these powerful weapons, which clearly could not burn, into an overwhelming golden inferno, shocking the soldiers into retreating and collapsing to the ground in horror.

Dozens of golden spears, as thick as arms, shot in from afar, intercepting all the projectiles soaring through the sky with a series of thunderous crashes!

“Boom!”

The grand golden curtain burst open the cave entrance buried under rocks, and figures surged out, charging directly toward the magical beast girls, who for some reason had seen their protective barrier gradually dissipate.

The leader held a blood-stained, fierce saber, and the human commander immediately recognized his identity, adding a few more shades of anger and resentment to his expression.

“South Blade Walter! Damn it, how the hell are you still alive after all this?!”

“Hmph! Despicable scum, die!”

Unlike the other demons rushing to rescue their young, the Oni Warrior Man fixed his gaze directly on the man opposite him, sprinting over and swinging his sword down without mercy!

“Clang! Clang, clang, clang, clang!!!”

The armored commander remained unfazed, pulling out a pitch-black giant sword from who knows where to parry that heavy strike, and they swiftly exchanged blow after blow. South Blade Walter, with all his force spent, stood tall, while the previous commander was forced back a few steps, needing assistance from his aide to steady himself.

Walter stood with his sword, looking at the reddened face of his opponent from bloodlust, and sneered with sarcasm.

“The captain of the Demon Town’s Internal Guard, the strongest in the Northern Territory of the United Kingdom, [Great Sword] Ahybern. I didn’t expect someone like you to collude with poachers and resort to these schemes. Truly, humans are despicable and crafty to the core.”

The man referred to as Ahybern waved his men aside, raising his big sword, refusing to give an inch as he shouted angrily.

“The guardian of the Southern Mountains of Ten Thousand Demons… South Blade Walter, you shameless beasts run amok, blocking the roads and repeatedly intruding across borders to attack villages and cities, slaughtering my people in a bid to incite war, how barbaric! You even have the audacity to call us despicable?!”

“Ridiculous! The poachers have been sneaking across the mountains, killing and abducting countless of our kin! Now even the little prince is targeted for their schemes. What’s wrong with us retaliating?”

“The actions of poachers have nothing to do with the innocent populace! They’re just an excuse for your primitive kind’s atrocities!”

“Tch, utterly foolish… spare me your wordiness, bring it on!”

“Hmph, that’s exactly what I intended! Today, I shall slay you beneath my sword!”

With blades flashing and swords clashing, the two seemingly old rivals fell into a heated battle once again, while the Priestess stepped out from the cave, coming to the side of the revived Xiao Lan.

“Oh, you’re awake? How do you feel? I hope there aren’t any after-effects or anything?”

When she closed her eyes earlier, Vilyric had withdrawn her connection, controlling her incarnated consciousness back to her original form at the cave entrance. She had taken out the non-threatening yet noisy magical cannons, and also intercepted those projectiles from afar to prevent Miss Slime from being bombarded with chaos right as she woke up.

Xiao Lan’s gelatinous body had returned to its original color, and her appearance had re-stabilized, although there seemed to be no significant changes. A closer look, however, revealed subtle golden glimmers mixed throughout her body, making her appear more translucent and sparkling, like a flowing blue-gold gemstone.

“I… Ah?! L-little Xiao Lan pays respects to the Lord!”

Facing the approaching black-haired girl and Little Dragon Daughter, Xiao Lan was momentarily dazed, and it wasn’t until Vilyric spoke that she seemed to come to her senses, panickedly attempting to bow down.

“Hey? What are you doing? I just asked you to work for three years, not to sell yourself. You don’t need to provide such a grand gesture!”

Peering curiously at the black cloak still draped over Xiao Lan, Vilyric casually caught her with the Priestess staff.

【Lightning Strike】 She had already stowed her backpack, the cloak was just a random blue piece from this world, and it wasn’t necessary to strip it off, so she figured she might as well give it away.

“Ah? Uh… It seems that’s the case. I’m sorry, my Lord, it was Xiao Lan who was presumptuous and knew no bounds…”

“?”

Is this girl okay?

It feels like compared to the last time we met, this slime’s mental state seems a bit off. Considering it might be a result of her invading without permission, Vilyric decided to ask for clarification.

“How much do you remember about what happened earlier? Is your body feeling unwell anywhere?”

Miss Slime raised her head in confusion, hesitating slightly as she replied.

“I remember… to be honest, my memory only lasts to the moment I felt someone’s gaze, and I’m not sure about the rest. It feels like a blur, as if I just suddenly appeared here, I’m really sorry, my thoughts seem a bit jumbled…”
