Chapter 420

Chapter 51: The Real Battle

Even though my body as Miss Slime has some pretty weak attributes and is basically in bare form right now, that level 80 isn’t a joke, and the Radiant Protection is definitely a solid 6th-tier magic.

The fact that it was able to produce cracks means that those cannon blasts already reached at least the level of a legend in pure power. If used wisely, it could indeed hold its ground against even stronger demons.

“Alright, even though I don’t quite get it…”

The Spirit Butterfly Clan girl shook her head, looking worriedly at the barrier that had cracks in it, constantly being hit by various chaotic attacks, seemingly on the verge of collapse, and couldn’t help but remind me.

“I forgot to introduce myself earlier. I’m Lulu. Miss Vilyric, what should we do next? Those cannons are a type of dragon backbone cannon made by humans using special techniques, powered by magic cores. My ancestral memories mention these—they have a shorter firing interval than typical magic cannons. But just sitting here and defending might not be enough…”

Looking at the strange magic cannon in the distance, which resembled a dragon’s mouth that had just opened and was now glowing with various colors, Miss Priestess couldn’t help but pout.

“Who said I’m going to defend? But magic cores… they do fit with the usual style of Demon Town, don’t they?”

Magic cores are actually the magic power crystals found within magical beasts or creatures. They allow the direct casting of various abilities without chanting spells, largely because of their existence.

But it’s no big deal. It’s said that magical beasts often consume the magic cores of their enemies to make themselves stronger, essentially similar to magic crystals—just a kind of resource.

Waving her hand casually, Miss Vilyric repaired the cracks on the Radiant Protection while gesturing to Lulu, who was hesitating about following along, to continue on.

“I’ll go deal with the enemies. You all stay safe inside; if you wander around carelessly and die, don’t expect me to take responsibility.”

“Eh? B-but if it’s just you…”

The shocked exclamation of the pink-haired butterfly girl echoed behind, but Miss Vilyric didn’t turn back to explain anything. Instead, wrapped in her cloak, she reached into the void like looking for something.

“Hmm… it’s a bit of a hassle to not have a decent weapon… but hey, there are plenty of substitutes around.”

“Alright, it’s just you then!”

Saying this, Miss Vilyric flicked her wrist, and a peculiar three-section staff that was completely black in the center and white at both ends sprung open in her hand—she waved it around casually, producing thunderous crackling sounds like lightning.

Thunder Rod, this was a holy weapon she occasionally used in the early stages of the game. Although it looked like a warrior’s weapon, with the flowing lightning and overall shape, in the classification, it actually fell under the category of a staff.

In the game, there’s a priest combat class designed for close combat, whose melee capabilities rival that of regular tanks or warriors. Utilizing the built-in healing ability of a priest, it can even be more suitable for high-pressure battles in some circumstances. Quite intriguing, really.

While Miss Vilyric wasn’t the kind of healer that just mindlessly supported, she occasionally interacted with those players in the game, and over time, her curiosity to imitate them grew.

This Thunder Rod was the product of that thought. With a holy weapon grade, it was just right for her body to use.

As soon as she grabbed one end of the three-section staff, crackling lightning instantly formed a visible protective shield around Miss Slime. Miss Vilyric nodded in satisfaction.

“Hehe, I’ve been wanting to try this kind of playstyle for a while now.”

Then, she stepped out of the golden shield.

“Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!!!!!!”

A downpour of arrows shot toward her, accompanied by fireballs, wind blades, and shadow arrows among other low-tier magic—so fierce that even with prior preparation, it startled Miss Vilyric.

Almost instinctively, she wanted to expand the shield, but then immediately realized her intention.

“Ha… I guess I really have gotten used to being a priest! Here we go!”

Gripping her peculiar weapon tightly, the lightning surged on her pale-golden body, she bent her knees and pushed with her legs.

“Boom!!!”

The ground cracked wide open, her golden and blue figure became a streak of light and phantom, weaving like a fish through the numerous arrows raining down.

Miss Vilyric didn’t cast any defensive magic, and the passive defense of Feather Garam wouldn’t apply to this slime body—this was the first time after coming to this world she tried using her body’s speed and agility to dodge enemy attacks.

Interesting, truly interesting ~

So completely different from the game!

“Hahaha!”

Weaving through the rain of arrows, the girl almost burst out laughing; the thrill of dancing on the knife’s edge cannot be experienced when just using brute force to resist all threats.

Several times, Miss Vilyric almost got hit or collided when she wasn’t proficient in controlling this body and lacked technique, barely dodging at the last moment. Although such attacks posed almost no threat to a level 80 character, especially in a slime body, she nevertheless felt a unique sense of urgency.

How to put it? It was like the exhilarating rush of facing the hardest difficulty in a rhythm game, multiplied by ten!

The joy of enjoyment and challenge captivated her. With a carefree smile, she dashed through the rain of arrows and reached the first batch of humans, already prepared and standing resolutely with their shields.

“Front line! Link defense!”

The urgent call of the commander echoed through the battle formation, and the heavy shield wall built up by the warriors immediately glowed with a rich earthy hue, rapidly merging to form a massive shield like a fortress.

There was no doubt this was a special group magic to counter a formidable individual. As a race with relatively low average combat power, humans relied on formations and teamwork to stand against the stronger magical beasts.

Even Miss Vilyric felt a weighty pressure coming from that shield wall; undeniably, this was a super battle formation capable of targeting legendary-level strong beings.

“Good formation!”

With a smile, she connected the three-section staff, crackling with electricity, in the air, gripping its white ends with both hands, and slammed it hard against the shield wall.

“Boom!!!”

One strike.

Thunder roared.

The solid battle formation collapsed violently.

Countless heavily armored shield soldiers, along with those within, who were meant to retaliate from the shield gaps after blocking the initial wave of attacks, burst into scattered meteors like pinballs in the sky.

The thunderous storm and energy even toppled the mage group and archer formation further back; only a few strong beings, like some well-armored generals and a handful of demon hunters, could barely maintain their balance.

“The front line was shattered!?”

“Impossible! This is a—what the monster ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!”

The crowd was infected by the surreal scene, amazed into terror. Some demon hunters who looked like they were scared for their lives were even driven to a state of panic, turning pale as they watched the front line formation being destroyed in an instant, overtaken by fear and looking to flee.

“Pfft.”

The headless body soon fell down in despair.

The leading warrior swung his sword, killing the fleeing coward—though he looked quite shocked himself, he didn’t lose his composure.

“Who dares to run? This is your fate! Magical beasts are brutal, despicable, and cunning; running means only death! We must band together! Only then can we resist them! Mage unit, deploy the capture nets!”
