Chapter 418
Chapter 49: He on the Throne
“What is… this?!”
Even Miss Slime, with her calm disposition, couldn’t help but gasp in terror and disbelief, instinctively reacting.
Despite lacking human physiological features, Xiao Lan felt a fear she had never experienced in her life until now.
Dizzy and weak, her mind turned blank, as if these emotions transcended her physical being, directly impacting her spirit and soul.
This was the inevitable reaction of a lower creature unable to bear the gaze from such an exalted and powerful height.
Xiao Lan trembled uncontrollably like she had been electrocuted.
“Hey, what are you doing?! Calm down!!!”
“X-Xiao Lan?”
The shouts of human soldiers filled her ears, along with Lulu’s concerned whisper, but Miss Slime could sense nothing; the overwhelming dread pressed down on her spirit like an unfathomable burden, far more terrifying than any mountain or rock, drowning her senses in chaos.
In mere seconds, her trembling turned into convulsions. Although she was a slime, Xiao Lan was unable to maintain her humanoid form, and began to melt away, the ropes binding her arms falling to the ground.
“Xiao Lan! Please don’t scare me! What’s wrong?!”
Recognizing that something was amiss, Lulu rushed forward, disregarding the humans lurking nearby, desperate to help, yet she couldn’t understand what was happening to her friend, who she had only just met after being captured together. Though the Spirit Butterfly Clan had healing abilities, she hadn’t learned them yet.
Finally, like the other magical girls, she could only watch anxiously.
The human soldiers were clearly alarmed by this bizarre scene. After all, with so many types of magical beasts and their unpredictable methods, they didn’t dare approach carelessly, cautiously calling for help while sending someone to notify the commander and the more experienced demon hunters.
Xiao Lan was unaware of the commotion outside; her consciousness had, at the moment that gaze landed upon her, inexplicably drifted into a vast, boundless space of pure whiteness.
She didn’t know what was happening, but Miss Slime saw a golden throne at the center of the world as she looked up.
“Ah… ah…”
Her weak and ethereal soul trembled.
Before her stood a girl with flowing black hair that shimmered like a waterfall, golden pupils sparkling with unfathomable patterns. Dressed in a magnificent robe, she resembled the Avatar of Light; just a fleeting glance etched that form deeply into Xiao Lan’s soul.
In the next moment, she understood the significance of the existence upon that throne.
“God…”
She trembled and bowed down, prostrating herself, no longer daring to gaze directly at that indescribably great being above.
Just then, It spoke, extending a smooth, white jade-like hand downward.
A light and gentle voice resonated, yet it seemed to fill every corner of the space immediately, allowing the fragile soul to comprehend and understand.
Unbeknownst to her, Xiao Lan’s kneeling posture became natural, her expression transformed into one of reverence and adoration.
“Yes, everything is as you wish, most exalted Goddess.”
…
In the outside world, a strange change occurred alongside this indescribable, incomprehensible exchange.
Before the soldiers and demon hunters returned to check, the previously spasming and collapsing light blue slime girl suddenly grew calm.
The shift from extreme motion to stillness felt particularly eerie in this situation, shocking even Lulu, who instinctively shrank back. The observing human soldiers also displayed expressions of tension, gripping their weapons tightly, seemingly ready to react at a moment’s notice.
Just as the little butterfly mustered the courage to check on her friend, who appeared to have stabilized, Miss Slime’s abdomen unexpectedly radiated a rich golden light.
The golden glow seemed like a crystal, rising like a star, then turning into waves that gradually spread across Xiao Lan’s entire body. Within seconds, her jelly-like light blue body gleamed a pure, transparent gold, even casting light outward from her form.
Spreading, transforming, as if prophesying an incredible event soon to unfold.
“Xiao Lan… ugh!”
As Lulu merely touched the golden jelly-like body with her fingertip, she recoiled in shock. In that brief moment, she felt an indescribable pain and burning sensation; it wasn’t merely physical, as if a higher power was punishing her for attempting to interrupt this process.
“What are you still standing there for? Kill that slime!”
A shout came from afar, the demon hunters, with more experience against magical beasts than the regular soldiers, had realized something extraordinary was happening to Xiao Lan, though they were uncertain exactly what. It was clear, however, that this pivotal moment was no coincidence.
On hearing the warning, the guarding soldiers immediately reacted, swiftly raising their spears, disregarding the Spirit Butterfly girl beside Xiao Lan, and thrusting toward the glowing slime still lying on the ground, her eyes shut tight!
The slime’s body was immune to most physical damage, but the core was its critical weakness. Though they had yet to determine where it was hidden, attacking multiple times was certainly better than doing nothing.
“Don’t, Xiao Lan!”
Seeing this scene, Lulu’s mind went blank. She completely forgot about the slime’s nature and desperately lunged forward, doing everything she could to protect her friend, who had become her close ally despite their brief acquaintance.
As the little butterfly had said before, though she feared death, some things were worth more than life itself.
“Ugh…”
Wrapping her arms tightly around the soft body of the slime, Lulu instinctively closed her eyes, bracing for the moment she would be stabbed in the back.
Yet, suddenly, a somewhat familiar voice, laced with mockery, reached her ears.
“Oh dear, I didn’t know you two had such a good relationship~”
Accompanying the teasing voice was a series of clangs, as if sharp weapons struck against a massive wall, yet the pain she anticipated did not come.
Confused, Lulu opened her eyes to see a crystalline golden hand gently resting on her shoulder, effortlessly separating the girls locked in an embrace.
“Xiao Lan! You… hey? You are…”
The Spirit Butterfly girl looked down in surprise, but instead of the familiar face she expected, she was met with the image of a small girl they had encountered when escaping the cave; a petite figure with long black hair, childlike and adorably cute.
Before her was still the slime’s body, but it had transformed into a transparent pale gold, not only resembling the face of that White Robed Girl, but also noticeably smaller in stature. No wonder she had to tilt her head to see her face earlier.
Although she was a slime, she exuded an aura of holiness and nobility, akin to that of light itself—an unbelievable sight.
