Chapter 342

Chapter 147: Destination, Temple of Sky

“Xi Fu Lin, can you sense the location of the Divine Spark fragments?”

Flapping her splendid “Wings of God” and soaring through the skies with her pet, Vilyric didn’t forget to ask the guide maid she had tucked away in her pocket.

The area above the Sky City was already shrouded in gray clouds and fog. The reason it hadn’t completely descended yet was likely because the one responsible for this scenery was held back by someone, and the protective barrier around the city was still functioning.

“I can’t sense it… probably hidden by something, but there is another very strong and unmasked presence of Life and Decay’s Divine Spark nearby, at least half of Xi Fu in her prime, just near the top of that tall tower.”

Having regained a significant degree of power after acquiring the fragmented Divine Sparks from the Abyssal Demon Island and those worms, Xi Fu Lin’s abilities were considerable, even though they still paled compared to the mischief-making Withering Goddess. Despite still being sealed, her perception of the outside world had expanded greatly.

At the very least, she no longer needed Vilyric to relay and depict everything for her.

What she sensed without a doubt was what she had encountered in the illusion along with the Priestess, the former half of the Earth Mother Goddess’s consciousness. The familiar dead mist in the sky clearly originated from her.

Thus, the target was now very clear.

During their flight towards the “Temple of Sky,” Vilyric took a moment to observe the state of the city from above.

To be honest, it looked grim.

Although most of the dead mist was blocked by the barrier, it seemed a small amount still seeped into various areas.

Basically, anything below the Earth level would surely perish upon contact, and it looked like some strange creatures had taken the opportunity to come out and cause chaos, restraining the Winged People’s defense forces, leading to total disarray everywhere.

Vilyric, at the moment, had neither time nor the inclination to worry about this kind of thing, but the envoy group from the United Kingdom was something Liliya entrusted to her personally before keeping her safe no matter what.

And then there was Tilysha. When the Priestess transmitted, she sensed the presence of the Light Element Spirit she left behind, apparently in battle, and it wasn’t far from the embassy. It seemed Edwina was indeed following her orders.

The Light Element Spirit was a level 70 summoning; although it certainly couldn’t match the Withering Goddess Xi Fu, it wouldn’t fall far behind Angel Hilda, and with Edwina around, some minions wouldn’t pose a threat.

Judging from what she had seen when leaving the embassy, as long as the main battlefield in the sky didn’t collapse, things should be fine here.

For now, she didn’t need to worry.

Lost in thought, the Priestess and her pet Dragon Girl had already arrived at the entrance of the “Temple of Sky.”

The Temple of Sky was unlike most buildings of the Winged People. Although it was tall enough to almost be out of sight, there was no passage that allowed direct entry from above.

According to the information Vilyric had gathered, to reach the top of the tower and gain the qualification to meet the divine, one would either need to secure the recognition of the High Priestess to guide them or climb up through their own efforts.

Moreover, this climbing qualification wasn’t something everyone could possess. The vast majority of outsiders were only permitted to visit the first floor of the Temple of Sky, and no access upward.

Originally, Vilyric intended to wait until the Wing Emperor’s birthday banquet was over and the temple reopened before seeking climbing qualifications, as this was also the method Sigrid mentioned as the highest possibility for outsiders to meet the divine.

But plans changed swiftly, leading to the continued closure of the Temple of Sky and the Priestess temporarily heading north.

She never expected to arrive here in this manner at such a time.

Standing at the low altitude of the spire’s base, the black-haired girl looked down, and the area around the Temple of Sky was already in chaos.

A large number of gray-robed figures were fiercely attacking the defense line formed by the “Free Wings” and the temple guards, with the brilliance of magic swirling around, and the battle was extremely tense.

These gray-robed figures weren’t strong, probably averaging levels 10-20, and even then, only because they seemed to be boosted by some kind of power; they were practically trash.

However, due to the urgent situation on the northern battlefield, most of the stronger beings in the Sky City had headed there. The “Four Wings” and four legendary temple guardians were all absent, resulting in the Winged People’s domain being suppressed in reverse.

It seems this was also a situation that Xi Fu designed intentionally.

“It looks like this really is the key point.”

Among the white feathers, Vilyric even spotted a few figures of the “Royal Wing Guard.”

Even the Wing Emperor Aistini had arrived, and since she wasn’t on the battlefield, that meant…

“… The real fight must be inside the tower.”

Interestingly, though the Wing Emperor wasn’t there, among the temple guardians, Vilyric spotted a somewhat familiar figure.

The little fox from the Beast Kingdom, legendary assassin Mavis.

Foxfolk were one of the humanoid races among the beastmen, especially female foxfolk, who were quite close to humans besides some pelts for warmth and modesty, and a few trademark traits.

Thus, female foxfolk sometimes became targets for human poaching gangs, and one could see their beauty reflected in little fox Mavis.

She wore action-friendly white shorts and a top, exposing a lot of skin and soft fox fur, swaying a pinkish-white tail like a specter amongst the enemy ranks, striking down one foe with each attack, drawing heaps of fire from the gray-robed enemies.

This little fox was the only legendary figure on this battlefield. If one looked closely, they could also spot a few beastmen warriors intermittently mixed into the Winged People’s line, evidently reinforcements Mavis had brought from the Beast Kingdom envoy group.

When did beastmen start working with the Winged People? Wasn’t Sigrid investigating their connection with the Abyss just recently?

And among these beastmen, the Priestess hadn’t spotted Tiger-Human Kunier or that Half-Dragon.

How strange…

But this had little to do with Vilyric, or rather, she didn’t need to hurry to understand it. Her current aim was simply to take this opportunity to uncover the hidden secrets within the Temple of Sky and have a chat with the mischief-making Withering Goddess Xi Fu.

Donning her “Chameleon Cloak,” Vilyric pulled her pet along and stealthily bypassed the tightly formed defenses of the Winged People, sneaking towards the main entrance at the tower’s base.

Fortunately, this time that broken thing didn’t act up, and the Priestess smoothly entered the first floor of the Temple of Sky.

The surroundings resembled a museum exhibition, with numerous murals, artifacts, and unidentifiable items scattered throughout the grand hall. Although the light from the magical lamps was still dazzling, it was completely empty.

Clearly, the personnel here had been evacuated in advance.

Looking around, Vilyric quickly found her target.

There were no stairs in the Winged People’s buildings. They either flew directly or used space teleportation formations, like the silver light before the Priestess.

She had seen such formations more than once in the Kingdom of Azure.

Though her instincts told Vilyric that reaching the top of the tower wouldn’t be that simple, with the daring philosophy of “How would you know unless you try?” she stepped onto it with determination.

But to be cautious, she let Little Guang stay outside to respond just in case.

“Whoosh~”

Silver light flashed around her, and after a slight feeling of weightlessness, Vilyric found herself in another space.

This place… was roughly the same size as the first floor of the tower, or perhaps a bit smaller, yet completely empty. Other than the magical pattern beneath her feet and another silver-glowing formation ahead, it was just hollow walls and ceiling.

Could this be…

The black-haired girl narrowed her silver-blue eyes slightly and soon broke into a smile.

“I see.”
