Chapter 289
Chapter 94: A Grand Dream
At night, Miss Vilyric sat alone at the table in her room, staring blankly at the empty ceiling, lost in thought.
She had no reason to refuse Sigrid’s invitation, whether it was out of a sense of responsibility towards Tilysha, the unfortunate girl dragged into this mess, or due to some information in the former’s possession that made the Priestess unable to turn a blind eye.
Although it was still unclear why Sigrid or the “Free Wings” would react so strongly to a single seed, it definitely had something to do with the troubles between those two gods.
To be honest, Vilyric was beginning to grasp the overall picture of this situation; what she lacked was merely the key to unlock it.
That could perhaps be the God of Sky, Minerva, or something whose true identity was yet unconfirmed.
Or perhaps…
Vilyric lowered her head to glance at the small stone sculpture on the table.
Since that night, it had not emitted any light, and the will residing within had fallen into a deep slumber.
She had spent enough time with Xi Fu Lin to understand her character; although she likely hid some things, her nature wasn’t bad, and she was quite considerate of others, being a rather gentle being.
In other words, not a bad god.
The inscriptions in the spirit room of Omoland were firmly etched in the Priestess’s mind, but she struggled to understand what was meant by the world’s malice, and why Xi Fu was labeled as the Abyssal Demon.
“Huh…”
The girl sighed, and the blonde Little Dragon Daughter, who had been curled up on the bed, opened her eyes at the right moment and expressed a hint of concern.
“Master, are you alright? You don’t look so good. Shouldn’t you rest early?”
Vilyric turned her head and smiled lightly, waving her hand.
“Don’t worry, you know my physical condition well enough. It’s just weighing on my mind a bit, and I’m also a little concerned about that girl Tilysha. We really did get her into quite the trouble this time.”
The Little Dragon Daughter, who usually didn’t care about the lives of others outside her master and a select few, got up and faced Vilyric with a duck-like sitting posture, her soft white tail repeatedly poking the bed.
She wasn’t in the outfit that Vilyric had set for her in the game but wearing a light white onesie dress crafted in this world, her smooth, fair legs and bare feet exposed, coupled with the unapologetically open neckline and her already remarkably proportional figure, made her incredibly alluring.
While the Priestess didn’t particularly like flamboyant clothing, that certainly didn’t mean she held the same view regarding her pet.
Moreover, Xiao Guang was entirely in league with Vilyric, but she exuded a different kind of top-tier beauty, or one might say, a model’s physique.
Initially, due to a somewhat forced outfit change by a certain Your Majesty, the Priestess had awakened some peculiar preferences, naturally extending that aesthetic to her Little Dragon Daughter.
But unlike the Priestess, Xiao Guang showed no resistance to it at all and actually enjoyed it.
Starting from the City of Courage, Vilyric had bought Xiao Guang quite a few nice clothes or dresses along the way when passing by suitable places.
However, due to the Dragon’s odd habits, Xiao Guang seemed to be quite averse to underwear, preferring to go without, and no matter how Vilyric corrected her, she remained stubborn, just like now.
Stretching lazily and deliberately showcasing her charm to the black-haired girl to ease her master’s mood, the Little Dragon Daughter casually spoke up.
“I think it’s alright. After all, we’re the ones who saved that girl from the enemy; her life belongs to the master. That Tilysha refused your invitation, so a bit of hardship is to be expected. If she had chosen to accept your invitation back then, wouldn’t we have avoided so much trouble now?”
The black-haired girl, not entirely grasping the underlying significance of the Little Dragon Daughter’s peacock-like display, simply shifted her attracted gaze away from the prominently exposed white fullness and shook her head helplessly.
“That’s true to an extent, but as sentient beings with feelings, we cannot—and shouldn’t—think purely rationally all the time.”
“What does that mean? Is rationality bad?”
The Priestess gestured with her hands, patiently explaining.
“It’s like, even you, wouldn’t you get furious over attacks that clearly pose no threat to me and act irrationally?”
“Though I logically understand that I’ve done nothing wrong and owe nothing to Tilysha, discovering that she’s doing her best to keep my secret despite being in such a situation makes me ponder, if I had been more attentive back then, could I have prevented this from happening?”
To be honest, Vilyric occasionally envied Mona’s ability to foresee the future, even though it mattered less with high-ranking entities; it was still quite impressive.
“That’s different; she’s a humble, weak human. How can she be compared to the master?”
Seeing the Little Dragon Daughter’s expression of utmost correctness, Vilyric understood that discussing this with her was pointless.
After all, Xiao Guang was a Dragon that looked down upon nearly all other beings from a species standpoint, caring only for those things she truly valued; their thought processes regarding this matter were utterly different.
At least in terms of logic, Vilyric believed she remained closer to human reasoning.
Slowly getting up from the armchair, the girl put away the statue holding Xi Fu Lin’s consciousness back into her backpack and smiled.
“Alright, let’s rest early. I’ve made an appointment with Sigrid to meet Tilysha tomorrow. It should be a good opportunity to gather more information, and we’ll go together.”
Upon hearing Vilyric say this, the Little Dragon Daughter, who was so devoid of scheming, immediately tossed aside the earlier topic and started wagging her tail while patting the soft bedding beside her.
“Yes yes, Master come on! I’ve already prepared the bed for you, and I promise I won’t let my tail get on you tonight!”
…
The next morning.
“…?”
As dawn broke, the black-haired girl lying on the soft bed suddenly opened her eyes, and her silver-blue gem-like pupils held none of the expected morning drowsiness. Her black hair fell behind her, and her exquisitely beautiful face seemed almost unreal.
She pushed aside the large white tail that had wrapped tightly around her waist like a playful little snake, glanced at the tail’s owner who was still sound asleep beside her, and without waking her up, turned her head slightly towards the window beyond the curtain.
Through her extraordinary vision, she could still see the distant tower, illuminated by the weak morning light, called the “Temple of Sky.”
“What just was… that feeling?”
Vilyric couldn’t articulate it.
It felt a bit like being lightly touched on the forehead during a chaotic sleep, bringing a cool sensation, or like having a thin veil brush across her cheek, tickling her into wanting to sneeze.
It wasn’t an unease or a premonition of something about to happen; rather, it was a pure sense of touch—a resonance with something inside that tower… yes, it was resonance.
This feeling of resonance was not strong, even weak, but while in a dream, it was infinitely magnified.
This was the first time Vilyric had experienced something like this since her crossing over; she had a hard time pinpointing what it was exactly.
“It’s all very strange…”
Checking the time on her panel interface, it was barely 6:30 in the morning.
Since leaving the game, this thing had little use other than displaying her and Xiao Guang’s attributes and equipment, and to tell time.
As she spent more time in this world, Vilyric occasionally had absurd thoughts while watching the now useless panel.
It was like a dream, the past… whether in the game or on the planet called Blue Star, living an ordinary life.
Well then, better get a bit more sleep.
