Chapter 285
Chapter 90: Sky City of Feather Capital
After that, the journey unexpectedly went smoothly. Although Sigrid was busy every day, I had no idea what she was doing, but she didn’t let any of her responsibilities slide, and Vilyric couldn’t exactly drag a busy person away for a game.
Fortunately, after playing for two or three months, the persistent Little Dragon Daughter finally grew tired of the game and, along with Leila and Renée, started to explore other things.
Speaking of board games, Vilyric had many types stored in her head from Blue Star that hadn’t appeared in this world yet.
While some particularly complex games that needed a lot of specific cards and detailed data were hard to replicate, the simpler ones, like chess, go, ludo, and dou shou qi, weren’t difficult to create. With a little request to the craftsmen among the Son of Leviathan, she managed to bring them all to life.
At long last, this made the Priestess’s journey somewhat bearable.
After a continuous transfer through three portals, the envoy group from the United Kingdom of Humanity finally arrived at the capital of the Kingdom of Azure, the largest and highest floating island in the world, the holy land in the hearts of all winged people—Sky Island.
Not only is this place historically rich in economic culture and magical research, but it is also home to the royal palace of the Wing Emperor, the headquarters of the Free Wings, and the Fantasy Magic Research Institute, among other important facilities.
Most importantly, this is where the Temple of Sky is located—the only place where Minerva, the God of Sky and Freedom, still maintains a connection with the mortal world, where the winged people listen to divine oracles and receive guidance and assistance from the deity.
It is said that within the temple and the entire Sky Island area, the appointed High Priestess designated by the God of Sky and Freedom can communicate with Him and even borrow divine power to obtain abilities beyond the imagination of ordinary people.
Of course, this is merely a rumor. When it comes to the true secrets surrounding the deities worshipped by the winged people, only a select few at the top of the Kingdom of Azure probably have the privilege to know.
Regardless, after a long journey, Vilyric finally set foot on this legendary capital, known for its ability to communicate with true gods, ranking among the top five nations in the entire world.
There are no portals on Sky Island. It is said that to settle here, one must possess the ability to fly with their own wings, so even the common winged people here are much stronger than those in other places.
If judged by gaming standards, they would probably be at least level 5.
Even so, Sky Island, covering an area of more than 500,000 square kilometers, boasts a terrifying population of over ten million winged residents.
There are no walls or similar structures here, of course, as the winged people couldn’t possibly create or maintain a barrier encompassing 500,000 square kilometers of land. Only the central area of the island, known as the “Sky City,” stands under a magical shield that operates day and night.
The Son of Leviathan quietly soared above Sky Island. The airspace here is already very close to the clouds, and the visibility of the outside world through the projection screen wasn’t very high. Even so, Vilyric could still see the magnificent spire towering into the clouds, its peak hidden from view.
That is the Temple of Sky, where the priests communicate with Minerva, the God of Sky and Freedom.
The Temple of Sky has never truly been a temple; it is called that only because ancient texts record that the God of Sky originally did not dwell so far in the heavens. He would periodically send angels down to the earth to listen to the prayers of the faithful.
Back then, what worshipped the deity was the true temple.
However, a thousand years ago, for reasons unknown, the God of Sky ascended to the heights and no longer cared for the mortal world. To continue receiving guidance from the deity, the believers had no choice but to exhaust everything they had to construct a tower capable of reaching the sky, trying to get as close to Him as possible.
This is the origin of the Temple of Sky.
By the way, the current deity’s priest is not the Wing Emperor. In fact, the Wing Emperor and the High Priest have always been two separate, independent roles, never held by the same individual.
Additionally, unlike the theoretically attainable position of the Wing Emperor for any winged tribe, the priests serving the God of Sky are personally selected by the deity and can only be born among the Whitewing tribe.
This fact has never changed over the centuries, which is why the Whitewing tribe remains the most noble group among all winged people.
“Minerva, the God of Sky…”
Standing inside the magical projection screen, Vilyric gazed at the distant magnificent spire, murmuring to herself.
She had come across this name far too often on her journey; the winged people spoke of Him continuously. The history of the Earth Mother Goddess, Xi Fu, is closely related to Him, and countless mysteries ultimately point towards this deity, said to dwell high above the heavens.
Having survived that divine disaster a thousand years ago, the fact that He could still remain and maintain a somewhat distant connection with the winged people only attests to the god’s power.
Vilyric wished more than once to see Him, to consult this deity about the many doubts she faced on her travels, or to witness just how powerful divine abilities could be. But after everything she had experienced on the way to the Kingdom of Azure, the Priestess found herself starting to doubt.
What is His current stance and condition? Is seeking Him out hastily really the right choice?
Of course, these were just fleeting thoughts in Vilyric’s mind. Meeting a deity is not something that can just be done. How to proceed requires careful planning.
I have to say, Sky Island is really huge. From the moment they set foot on this floating island, the Son of Leviathan has flown from dawn till dusk, and only then did Vilyric finally see the vast white barrier representing the range of Sky City below.
The pattern of the magical barrier here looks somewhat different from that on Spris Island, and its coverage area is clearly much larger. If looking solely at area and height, it nearly matched the level 10 magic spell “Eternal Protection Light” that Vilyric had cast in the Calamity Forest.
Of course, if actually pushed to its limit, the potential of a level 10 magic spell goes far beyond this.
Although the giant beast known as the Son of Leviathan is massive, it still pales in comparison to the towering Sky City. As they passed through the white barrier and entered the bustling night sky of this ancient capital, the whale-like magical beast made a beeline toward a wide open-air platform resembling a port, slowly descending.
Outside, the sound of knocking coincided perfectly with Sigrid’s inquiry.
“Vilyric, is everyone ready? We’ve arrived in the Feather Capital. As soon as the Son of Leviathan docks, we can prepare to head to the post station, okay?”
