Chapter 264

Chapter Sixty-Nine: Hearing the Abyss Sound Again

“Three! Hahaha, I’m all in! I won again!! Woohoo!!!”

“Wha—what! Two cards in a row? If I had known, I would have…”

“Uh… Miss Sigrid, it seems you don’t have a bomb; those are three 4s, not four 3s…”

As expected, before Vilyric could even pick up the novel resting on her stomach for too long, the chattering voices of a few girls echoed once more not far away.

Listening to their conversation, which made one question their intelligence and was full of amusing points, the Priestess couldn’t help but facepalm. It’s true that fools easily flock together, isn’t it?

No, it’s more like they have unique deficiencies in certain aspects, perhaps?

Glancing at Sigrid, who was flustered and loudly debating the “correct card-play logic” with her two white-winged teammates, the Black-haired Girl couldn’t help but curl the corner of her mouth into a slight smile.

Like most of the Winged People, this girl wasn’t a bad person; she was even adorably silly compared to the socially cunning and crafty Hilda Kurk.

It was said she had outstanding talent and was taken under the Wing Emperor’s wing at a young age, hardly returning to the Winged People’s settlement and only recently meeting Leila and Renée.

Vilyric had already told Sigrid, one of the “Wing Emperor’s Four Wings,” about the sisters, but to avoid trouble, she hadn’t mentioned anything about resurrection magic, just that they had casually saved the two from being trafficked.

As the Priestess had planned, since there weren’t many outsiders here, and it was already the territory of the Winged People, after boarding the Son of Leviathan, Leila and Renée had, at Vilyric’s suggestion, stopped hiding their white wings.

It wouldn’t matter even if envoy members saw them; Vilyric never intended for them to live in disguise forever; racial discrimination itself was a rather foolish behavior.

Of course, considering that the second pair of wings that sprouted after their bloodline was purified were quite eye-catching, Vilyric still suggested they temporarily hide them to avoid unnecessary trouble.

After a brief ruckus, the four girls quickly regained their seats, redistributed the “stakes,” and the victorious Little Dragon Daughter volunteered to mix the cards like a circus performer, preparing for the next round.

According to the pattern of the last two days, they would continue this noisy card game until the sun was blazing high, and only after lunch would Sigrid leave the room to begin her daily patrol duties—including checking the entire inside and outside of the Son of Leviathan.

Honestly, it felt a bit like inspecting a spaceship.

But today seemed to have a twist.

Just as they stacked the cards on the table and were about to draw, suddenly, a white-winged girl, seemingly a member from Sigrid’s original team who had been chasing Abyss Beasts, rushed in and whispered something in the captain’s ear.

Sigrid’s expression instantly changed, her playful demeanor quickly replaced by seriousness and composure.

“Can we confirm the numbers?”

“The scouts didn’t dare approach too close, but there are probably at least over a hundred, Captain. What do you think we should—”

The White-winged girl put down her cards and stood up without hesitation.

“Do I need to say more? The Abyss Beasts appearing within the borders is a very serious matter! Immediately contact the Wing City and inform them to request support, let’s go to the main cabin!”

“What happened?”

“Wah!”

As Sigrid turned around, she was startled to find the delicate face of the previously lounging Black-haired Girl magnified right in front of her, almost making her pull out her weapon.

“Vilyric?! Are you trying to scare me to death?! Seriously, don’t just pop up like that…”

Patting her chest, which showed no signs of fluctuation, the girl gasped, feeling a bit shaken.

This girl seems laid-back but is surprisingly timid… No, is she just weak against surprises?

She actually seems pretty cute?

Vilyric chuckled with a completely insincere demeanor.

“Haha, my bad! I actually walked over normally step by step; you were just too focused on your thoughts.”

“Yeah right, I clearly didn’t hear your footsteps… Ah well, I’m sorry, but I have some urgent matters to attend to, you all just stay here. Don’t worry, it’s very safe here; if I… no, never mind, I’ll take my leave for now!”

After saying this, Sigrid hurriedly left the room with the White-winged girl who had come to deliver the message, making their way through the corridors of the Son of Leviathan.

From what they said earlier, the destination should be the main cabin, where they could directly communicate with this massive creature and adjust its navigation; it was usually used for discussing major issues.

“Master, what’s going on with her…?”

The Little Dragon Daughter tilted her head next to the Priestess, having never seen Sigrid look so anxious and serious since they boarded the Son of Leviathan.

Although she hadn’t gone eavesdropping, Vilyric’s keen senses still caught most of the conversation.

“It seems something serious is going on. Do you want to go together?”

Though Sigrid told them to stay, Vilyric was definitely interested in anything lively, and of course, Xiao Guang as her pet was coming along, but it was better to ask her companions for their personal wishes.

Leila and Renée exchanged glances; as sisters who had come this far together, their tacit understanding rivaled that of Vilyric and the Little Dragon Daughter, quickly reaching a consensus.

“My sister and I also want to go see; after all, this is happening in our country, and as White-winged people, we should contribute.”

Edwina quickly added with a smile.

“If possible, I certainly hope to stick with Miss Vilyric…”

“Alright, then let’s go together.”

After a brief discussion, the five of them exited the cabin and headed straight for the main cabin; for them who had been living in this living ship for nearly a week, the route was not difficult.

The corridors inside the Son of Leviathan were not narrow but rather spacious and bright; the fixed magical lights illuminated this area where sunlight couldn’t reach, and there were many elite human soldiers from the envoy guarding along the way.

Of course, the number of Winged guards accompanying the Son of Leviathan was even greater, reaching over ten thousand, most of whom were the red-winged guard units bound to this giant beast.

However, this area was part of the envoy’s residence, and to ensure privacy, Sigrid hadn’t stationed too many subordinates nearby.

Leaving the living quarters, the number of Winged people around noticeably increased, all of whom seemed to be in a hurry.

As honored guests and having spent time with Captain Sigrid, they had already become somewhat familiar, and since they were only moving through the hallway and didn’t show any intention of entering any internal areas, the guards along the way didn’t stop them.

Soon, the previous “Southern Disaster” extermination team arrived at the main cabin’s entrance.

The Winged People didn’t build large stone or steel fortifications like humans; many important areas, like the “walls” of Spris City, had been constructed using magic, making them both convenient and secure.

This main cabin door served as a white light curtain, obscuring the internal situation, with two armored white-winged girls standing solemnly outside, holding long spears as sentinels.
