Chapter 245
Chapter 50: Miss Vilyric’s Ecological Investigation in Another World
Spris City is the largest and only city on the Island of Spris.
Generally speaking, on the floating islands of the Kingdom of Azure, there is typically only one city established, or a region equivalent to a city.
In the architectural concept of the Winged People, there are no fortifications like walls, because any being that can come to the Kingdom of Azure can basically fly. Even if the tallest walls were built to defend against enemies, it wouldn’t make any sense.
So their city is just a living area made up of clusters of buildings. Of course, to prevent airborne magical beasts or other enemies from invading, the Winged People do have unique means.
Magical shields.
The Winged People’s research into magic is indeed deeper than that of the United Kingdom. It seems there are Silver-Winged People among them—though their numbers are quite few and not many compared to the most noble White Wings—they possess quite remarkable magical talent.
That unique sky magic is said to have initially been developed by a certain Silver-Winged person and later perfected and promoted for use in various combat and living scenarios for the Winged People active in the vast skies.
Similarly, the magical barrier covering the entire city was also created by the Silver-Winged tribe.
These details were introduced to Vilyric and others by Miss Hilda on the way here.
Vilyric experienced this magical barrier firsthand when she first arrived, and its strength was astonishing, reaching above level 6, even approaching level 7, and that was without it being driven to its limits.
While its defensive power, range, and sustainability cannot possibly compare to Vilyric’s level 10 magic, “Eternal Guardian Light,” from a conventional perspective, it is indeed the most powerful barrier magic she has seen since coming to this world.
Disregarding Vilyric’s own situation, the strength of the barrier enveloping Spris City is presumably even greater than the level 6 magic, “Radiant Protection,” which Miss Priestess is most accustomed to using.
Below the level of Pseudo-Gods, perhaps only that cross-peak blood clan loli prince Lucini Constans could break through it head-on, but that would require the use of the “God-Slaying Spear.”
Others at the transcendent level, like Rebecca or Miss Edith from the United Kingdom, probably wouldn’t measure up either. After all, at the level of transcendents, the “Phantom World” ranks show a gap spanning up to level 20; the difference between the upper and lower limits is quite significant.
Standing on the bustling street, Vilyric gazed up at the magnificent pale white dome in the sky before slowly retracting her gaze.
This barrier didn’t appear to be cast by a single individual, but rather seemed to require the combined efforts of many, even dozens, using arrays and the power of high-ranking Magic Crystals to maintain.
Otherwise, to sustain such an intense magical barrier continuously throughout the day, the caster would at least need to be at the level of a Pseudo-God, which is above level 70. Even if the Winged People had such high-level experts, they wouldn’t be able to use them this way.
“Master, where are we going next?”
A curious inquiry came from her pet beside her.
“I originally wanted to see what the core of this barrier looks like… but, well, it’s probably unnecessary, lest others suspect we’re here to spy.”
Using the “Chameleon Cloak” to infiltrate would be possible, but for one, this thing is more of a toy-like gear, albeit of holy artifact quality. In a place central to maintaining a level 7 magical barrier, it might be detected by some bizarre defense mechanism.
If caught red-handed, the consequences could be debated, but it would surely be too embarrassing.
On the other hand, Vilyric personally isn’t fond of sneaking around and being underhanded; if forced, so be it. Generally speaking, the Priestess rarely goes out of her way to do such things.
Otherwise, with her capabilities, she could totally procure something above “Chameleon Cloak,” with an even stronger invisibility effect, like a semi-artifact or even artifact-level gear.
The Black-haired Girl casually pointed ahead.
“Let’s just stroll down this street for a while, then find a place to eat.”
“Okay, I’ll follow you, Master.”
With that decided, the two started to meander along the main street.
As one of the closest floating islands to the outside world in the Kingdom of Azure, and with the multi-winged peoples’ cohabitation policy proposed by the current Wing Emperor, Spris is highly developed and thriving, with its architectural style and cultural environment significantly influenced by external factors.
Vilyric recognized familiar shadows in many things here.
On the other hand, Spris City is also a well-known tourist city and important commercial port in the area. Besides the Winged People, quite a few other races frequently pass through this place.
The Winged People’s architecture, at least in this city and surrounding countries, even the United Kingdom, isn’t too different; they also primarily use wood and stone as materials, with doors and windows, and layered structures.
But Vilyric noticed some rather interesting aspects.
First, the buildings here are at least 2-3 stories tall; almost no single-story houses can be seen. The Winged People seem to have a natural inclination to live high up.
Over 90% of the houses are inevitably designed with terraces for landing, and in most of them, especially among the commoners, there’s absolutely no concept of “stairs.” Instead, a large hole is opened in the center of the ceiling inside the houses to connect them.
It’s somewhat reminiscent of the style in the Blood Clan estates.
Clearly, for these winged races, flying directly up is much more convenient than walking.
Of course, this structure is quite unfriendly for visitors who can’t fly.
In summary, most shops and reception areas in Spris City are located on the ground floor, while the upper levels are primarily where locals rest, sleep, and entertain, closed off to outsiders.
It creates a very interesting ecological style.
After wandering around the Winged People’s city for a bit, Vilyric felt her worldview refresh dramatically; many things were unheard of and unseen before.
If the United Kingdom resembles a medieval feudal society with magical elements mingled in, then the Winged People’s Kingdom of Azure truly embodies a pure magical world system.
Here, technological development is noticeably behind that of the United Kingdom, with even mechanical structures like clocks being very rare. Instead, everything is driven by magical systems.
Here, Vilyric witnessed many life spells that wouldn’t even count as level 1; they don’t appear at all in games, yet are incredibly astonishing in the real world.
Spells like “Clean,” “Auto-Stir,” “Bake,” “Create Drinking Water,” “Anti-Corruption,” “Lighting,” “Time Measurement,” and so on cover almost every aspect of the Winged People’s lives.
It’s said that these spells were also created and promoted by Silver-Winged People, and new life spells are still being developed at magical research institutes in the Sky City of the capital.
Creating magic is truly an incredible feat; at least that’s how Vilyric sees it. For now, she definitely can’t do such things.
Moreover, it seems that due to the slight angelic bloodline inherited by the Winged People, almost every type of Winged Person can possess some magical power to varying degrees. While most might not be able to fight with it, activating life magic is already sufficient.
This should be one of the fundamental reasons behind the Winged People developing their current lifestyle.
At least, humans cannot achieve this; even the lowest-ranking magic apprentices among humans require about ten persons to produce one who can become a Mage.
If one is born without any elemental affinity, one cannot absorb the corresponding magical power particles in the air, making it impossible to cast magic.
Of course, if some strong noble bloodlines have been passed down, especially if their ancestors reached transcendent levels, this ratio might rise, but it’s still unlikely to reach 100%.
Just like the Meikailande family of the United Kingdom’s Royal Family, where Liliya, who cannot manipulate any magical elements, still appears.
