Chapter 34: Heritage from the Ancients

“So, what did she say?”

Leila hesitated for a moment before speaking in a rather confused voice.

“She called my sister and me descendants and accused us of being traitors, but Renée and I have only been alive for a bit over seventy years. Aside from these past few years, we’ve mostly only interacted with clan members. How could we possibly betray anyone? So, I was wondering if our bloodline has undergone some change, causing her to mistake us for something else?”

“Descendants, huh…”

That got my attention.

Vilyric still remembered that when she first awakened the fragment of the God of Sky, Xi Fu, it had mentioned that the Priestess was mingled with the scent of descendants, causing her confusion.

Though she hadn’t thought much of it back then, now it made her wonder if it referred to Leila and Renée.

The sisters had experienced a reversion to their ancestors, possibly mixing in some degree of the original ancestors of the Winged People—angelic bloodline, which Vilyric was aware of.

But what did that have to do with the Earth Mother Goddess?

Angels are said to be holy beings created by the gods, sent to the mortal realm to convey divine blessings. While they aren’t true gods, they are a powerful species, rivaling even Pseudo-Gods.

As the age of myths faded and the gods fell silent, no longer intervening in the world, the activity of angels decreased rapidly, and they essentially disappeared along with the Blood Clan. Now, there is very little detailed record of such beings in the United Kingdom.

So Vilyric didn’t really know much about them.

However, someone might know.

“Please wait a moment.”

The Black-haired Girl shifted her gaze to the statue of the God of Sky on the table.

Since absorbing another fragment’s original power, Xi Fu’s perception and memories had grown noticeably.

She could now observe the reality around her within a small range and hear sounds; as long as she was within a meter’s proximity, Vilyric, who already had a connection with her, could engage in direct communication from a distance.

Although it took a bit more effort than before, it also had the advantage of being more discreet.

For now, Vilyric wasn’t planning to let too many people know about this statue and the secrets related to the Earth Mother Goddess.

【Xi Fu, did you hear that? Can you remember anything?】

After a moment, a voice that was slightly weaker than when they were in direct contact entered Vilyric’s mind.

【Yeah, actually, I did remember some of this from the start, but now it’s much clearer. Looking at the two girls, they should be pure-blood Winged People. Vilyric, do you know where the initial ancestors of the Winged People came from?】

【Aren’t they the result of mixing with angels?】

【Yes, but when we say ‘mixed blood’, it usually refers to a combination of two different bloodlines. You’ve only seen one half. Have you ever thought about what the other half, aside from angels, could be?】

【Hmm? Isn’t it humans?】

Xi Fu chuckled, seeming amused by Vilyric’s erroneous guess.

【Not at all.】

The Winged People… aren’t they a mix of angels and humans?

Actually, Vilyric’s assumption wasn’t entirely unfounded, as the description of the Winged People in nearly all the literature in the United Kingdom portrays them as half-human, half-angel, and besides their wings, they look almost identical to ordinary humans.

Not just from the United Kingdom; it seems that the perception in most countries around the world, including the Kingdom of Azure, is similar. The United Kingdom, being a nation that practices human supremacy, goes so far as to view Winged People as subhuman mixed with beastman bloodlines.

Xi Fu didn’t keep it a secret and directly explained.

【Angels are the seventh tier beings created by the gods, with some even reaching the eighth tier, which is near godhood. Humans, on the other hand, are just the most common lower-tier species in the world. The average power, lifespan, tier, and understanding between the two are worlds apart—unlike dragons who are known for their promiscuity, how could they ever combine?】

Although this wasn’t the most polite way to put it and carried a hint of disdain for humans, for some inexplicable reason, Vilyric, who was formerly human, didn’t feel much aversion and instead reflected on the possibility within Xi Fu’s reasoning.

Indeed… it made some sense.

From the human perspective, they might see themselves as the foundation of all beings, irreplaceable in intelligence and creativity at the core of the world.

But the deeper Vilyric delved into understanding the various races in this world, the more she felt the insignificance and weakness of humanity itself.

Short lifespans, poor unity, low power averages, and the difficulty in advancing to higher ranks—there were only two notable aspects: they matured quickly and were numerous.

Although Vilyric didn’t fully agree with the derogatory titles like “lower species” or “subspecies,” it was undeniable that humans were not the irreplaceable core of the world, often looked down upon by many higher-tier races, and it was also an undeniable fact that they were sometimes regarded as food.

The exclusiveness of the human United Kingdom, in a sense, was simply self-preservation.

She decided not to discuss this topic further with Xi Fu.

【So, do you already know where the other half of the Winged People’s bloodline comes from?】

Xi Fu answered without hesitation.

【Divine beings, descendants born of gods, are the true source of humanity. Humans are essentially a race derived from the multiple degradations of divine bloodlines or regarded as the base race, which explains why they closely resemble angels and can easily be mistaken for them.】

After thinking for a moment, she added,

【Actually, most races in this world should be derived from various gods who have procreated naturally, evolving over time. But the only ones that can truly be called divine offspring are those bloodlines created directly by gods through special methods.】

Divine beings, huh…

While contemplating this impressive-sounding term, Vilyric recalled what Duke Julius had mentioned in the Blood Clan estate regarding the conditions for using divine legacies.

God’s direct bloodline… isn’t that somewhat similar?

However, he had stated that Lucini Constans, this second-generation Blood Clan Prince, also met the conditions for utilizing divine legacies. Could it be that Lucini is also a divine being?

That concept of divine beings is rather broad.

And there’s Mr. Nickles, who supposedly once used a wishing artifact—Vilyric was certain he was one hundred percent human. What was up with that?

Forget it, I’m diverging too far. For now, I’ll focus back on Leila and Renée.

【So, do you see the two sisters as a mix of angels and divine beings?】

To help Xi Fu understand better, Vilyric gestured for Leila and Renée to come a bit closer.

【What do you mean by ‘in my view’? Whatever… while many of my memories are now blurry, I absolutely wouldn’t mistake this obvious blend of Earth and angelic essence as anything else. But it’s a bit strange… why would such weak pure-bloods still exist after a thousand years?】

【Well… I’ll explain it to you if I get the chance. Thanks!】

Continuing indefinitely wouldn’t make sense, so Vilyric temporarily paused the topic and turned to the sisters, who had been quietly waiting for a long time.

If what Xi Fu said was true, then Leila and Renée could essentially qualify under the category of mythical beings, and the fragmented scenes they experienced in their minds were likely unique heritage memories of high-tier species.

But how could she explain that to them?
