Chapter 123

Chapter 64: The Coming of Fiery Blossom and the Storm (Bonus Update)

Edwina and Natalie, the duo of sisters in distress, were stopped by the enemy in their escape.

This was quite normal; if an important stronghold under the “Throne of Immortality” could be easily fled from, its secrets would probably have been exposed long ago.

After slaying two sentinels, those bizarre beings, neither truly living nor dead, surged like wolves catching the scent of blood, rushing toward the two Holy Knight ladies, intent on a fierce battle.

As Edwina and her companion fought while advancing, they found these foes’ methods too bizarre to handle.

Not only did they have to guard against the poisons smeared on the enemies’ weapons and the projectiles and magic that could fly at any moment, but the opposition often swallowed potions that could drastically enhance their combat ability. Even at their Sky tier level, they felt quite cramped surrounded by a hoard of these golden-skinned foes.

Moreover, as Miss Natalie had said, unless they severed a head, ordinary physical damage seemed completely non-lethal to members of the “Throne of Immortality,” and soon the battle devolved into a stalemate.

“Holy Radiance Slash!”

The long sword shimmering with golden light slashed through the air, but the tall man before them crossed his arms to shield his frail neck, blocking Edwina’s lethal blow.

After a prolonged battle, the already less-than-optimal state of the Holy Knight lady meant her attack’s holy light intensity had weakened significantly from its initial strength, causing her full-strength slash to fail to break through the defenses of this Earth tier opponent.

The golden sword only dug into the man’s arm by a third, and he laughed maniacally as if he felt no pain, intending to trap Edwina’s sword with his flesh and prevent her from withdrawing!

Meanwhile, the other three attackers unleashed their moves simultaneously, casting dark fireballs from their wands aimed at the Holy Knight’s back who was held down!

Three fourth-tier magic [Dark Flame Burst]—if she took them head-on, she’d surely suffer grave injuries!

“Edwina! What are you doing?!”

With a similarly dimming golden glow encasing her shield, Natalie barely fended off the enemy she was entangled with, pulling back to block the fireballs for her ally, before retreating a few steps to regroup, although she was obviously more fatigued than before.

Seizing the opportunity from the space gained, Edwina, in a moment of brilliance, mimicked her predecessor’s previous tactic and kicked the enemy in the groin!

“Awoo!”

As the man’s face changed drastically, and his strength slackened for an instance, the Holy Knight lady quickly snatched back her weapon and retreated to Natalie.

Hey, this trick works pretty well? Is this what being a predecessor is like? Got it!

A pure-hearted Holy Knight reflected on this fleeting thought.

“Thank you, Miss Natalie! You really helped!”

Edwina communicated hastily and softly with her partner, though she wasn’t quite sure what she was referring to…

“Enough chit-chat, get ready to fight!”

The tall enemy’s severed hand began to wriggle and heal by itself after Edwina’s sword pulled free. Though he nervously kept his pale face concealed between his legs and didn’t dare move, the others showed no mercy, continuing to unleash a torrential assault, leaving little breathing room for the two girls.

The two Holy Knights could only stand back-to-back, supporting each other as best they could.

“Miss Natalie, this won’t work; we need another way out!”

“I know! But for now, we just need to hold the line and keep the enemy here; reinforcements are coming soon!”

“You mean those people outside? But how can you be sure they will…?”

“Trust me, it won’t be wrong! I can sense her presence, cough cough…”

Low growls escaped Natalie, who slashed back a bizarre enemy with limbs like snakes once more, breathing heavily.

Her state wasn’t much better than Edwina’s and might even be worse, but unlike the pampered daughter of a noble family, Natalie, who worked as an adventurer and fought fiercely through the years, undoubtedly had more combat experience and willpower than Edwina.

Clad in her Holy Knight armor, she resembled a true, pure white lion, showing no signs of fatigue up until her very last bit of strength.

The current situation, to be frank, had been largely anticipated by Natalie; she never thought the two of them alone could bulldoze through this perilous stronghold.

Originally, Natalie had a different plan in mind, but after noticing some things, she chose a safer maneuver.

Natalie felt it—the familiar, scorching glow like burning flames among the approaching crowd.

She was here.

“Part Two, Flame the Heavens.”

A chant echoed like a bell, inexplicably clear to everyone on the battlefield, followed by a brilliant fiery rain descending from the darkened heavens.

Arrows splitting into thousands, cascading into the ranks of bizarre enemies, instantly turning them into fiery infernos.

“Ahhhh!!!”

“What the hell is this fire; why won’t it go out?!”

“The enemy has breached here! Everyone, prepare for battle!”

The scorched undead howled in despair, but miraculously, Edwina and Natalie, trapped in the center of the encirclement, suffered no harm whatsoever.

“Fiery Blossom! It’s you!”

Natalie exclaimed, joyfully spotting the familiar red-haired figure tearing through the enemy line as if on a straight path toward them. For her at this moment, the legendary flower was like a refreshing rain after a long drought.

“Careful, ladies, the danger isn’t over yet.”

A swirling breeze brushed past, as a middle-aged man donned in casual attire with freshly shaven stubble appeared, boldly diving into the fray to intercept an enemy who was aiming to ambush Natalie while she was distracted.

“Winds rise, clouds surge!”

A ferocious gale erupted, sending a female cultist armed with a crossbow reeling back, struggling to keep her eyes open as the arrows she shot veered off course and struck another undead instead.

In the moment of shock, the man flitted forward effortlessly, his sword slicing through the enemy in a graceful arc, dismantling them swiftly, elegantly, and decisively.

Like a dance in the wind.

“Wow, that’s impressive!”

Edwina’s eyes widened.

From the speed and power showcased, this man likely surpassed her in strength; if he wasn’t legendary, he certainly was at the peak of the Sky tier.

What stood out was his exceptional swordsmanship with the wind, and being of the Sky tier, Edwina found it challenging to even keep up with her eyes.

Not to mention that heavenly fire rain from earlier, which took out at least dozens of enemies with a single move. Miss Natalie shouted her name, “Fiery Blossom.” Wasn’t she one of the three legends from the City of Courage, the fabled expert archer? How could such a prominent figure appear here?

Who exactly was attacking this place?

If Edwina and Natalie felt a wave of relief, the situation for the cultists of the Throne of Immortality could only be described as catastrophic.

“There are too many enemies! What is happening? Did our frontline wipe out completely?”

“No, what about Lord Leopold? Hasn’t he organized the experimental data yet? Why hasn’t he issued a retreat order?!”

“Forget about that! Let’s get out of here, brothers!”

“Get out? Are you kidding? It’s surrounded outside like a steel barrel! Without Lord Leopold, where can we run? Damn it, let’s take those two girls down!”

Amidst the chaos, panic-stricken undead, under the call of what seemed to be a mid-level commander, shrieked as they charged toward the central target of the encirclement.

To besiege the two Holy Knights, these undead’s fragile casters and backline fighters were all positioned outside the encirclement, exposed to the might of the kingdom’s champions, suffering immediate heavy casualties.

Meanwhile, the main melee combatants had become restrained by Edwina and Natalie, unable to support and could only go all out to eliminate the enemies stationed in the center of their formation.

“Hey, they’re coming right at us!”

The wind-riding swordsman laughed heartily, like a whirlwind crashing into the enemy troop, sending them sprawling as he passed, and even the cultists of the Sky tier couldn’t prevent his movement and slaughter.

With swift winds and mastery over group battles, Nickles’ role in this environment was on par with that of a genuine legend.

Following closely, more and more black-clad female assassins and high-ranked adventurers reached the battlefield, launching their fierce attack.

The vast hall turned into a merciless meat grinder, blood of black and crimson splattering everywhere, while amid the continuous reinforcement pouring in from outside, the cultists, clearly outmatched, began to falter, dropping one after another into disarray.

Victory was assured.
