Chapter 108

Chapter 49: I’m an Assassin, Super Scary! (Addendum)

Vilyric didn’t take action to capture the traitorous maid and the infiltrating cultist; they were merely tools and pawns of the higher-ups. The Priestess certainly didn’t believe that Ban had prepared for any mishaps.

Taking action now would only mean a desperate final attempt at survival.

Moreover, Vilyric wasn’t obligated to assist the little princess named Mona. If it were Liliya who had been poisoned, she might have intervened, but the Sixth Princess…

After all, the two didn’t have any connection and hadn’t even met.

Besides, Vilyric had another layer of consideration.

What she had heard were just the one-sided words of these two; this unilateral information didn’t represent that Princess Mona or Liliya were unaware or unprepared for this.

Perhaps, just like the first time she met Liliya, this clever princess had already prepared countermeasures, purposely luring the enemy into a trap.

Making a reckless move might just disrupt someone else’s plans.

However, Vilyric took advantage of their inattention to mark the unconscious maid, hoping to track down the cult’s stronghold in the royal city.

As for these guys, Vilyric would personally handle them soon enough.

“Hehe, unexpected gain~ it’s time to leave. Since this is Princess Mona’s chamber, the other one must undoubtedly belong to Liliya.”

With a light laugh, the black-haired girl spread her white wings and ascended into the air, vanishing into the night without anyone noticing.

In the United Kingdom, Fifth Princess Liliya was the hottest figure in the current struggle for the throne. In this battle of shadows and light, she single-handedly held the other three princes at bay.

Perhaps if the three princes teamed up, they might have a chance to confront her.

But times have changed; the old king had passed away, and the next king’s ascension was imminent. No one would be foolish enough to trust their rivals at this critical moment.

Everyone was enemies. Regardless of who fell, it would be good for the others; only one could emerge victorious, leading to complete distrust and an utter lack of cooperation.

There were still half a month left.

The ritual period was already halfway through, and this brief calm before the storm grew increasingly heavy, making it hard to breathe.

Compared to the other princes, Liliya bore the heaviest pressure, for she held the absolute advantage. The others, feeling helpless, would undoubtedly discard all limits and employ any means necessary, disregarding the possible consequences of their actions.

After all, if they lost, there would be no second chance.

Thus, Liliya, who relied on overwhelming public support to assume the throne after the ritual ended, not only had to guard against the other princes’ schemes but also had to stabilize the royal city, suppress the situation, and hunt down any troublemakers who dared to stir chaos, dealing with affairs well into the night every day.

If it weren’t for her significant progress in strength and physical condition, this exhaustion would have long since broken her down.

Nevertheless, today, the princess was quite happy.

Her teacher and dear friend, the reliable and lovely Priestess Vilyric, had finally concluded her months-long journey and arrived in the City of Courage to reunite with her.

Vilyric had sent her a legendary ratman assassin named Plakaka for her to command, who had just picked her up this afternoon and even brought back a new man, supposedly a swordsman instructor and subordinate prepared for her.

But the princess had no inclination or time to practice swordplay right now. She instructed her subordinates to prepare accommodations for Nickles and treat him well, then put him on standby for the time being.

At the pinnacle of sky rank, while he wouldn’t play a decisive role in the struggle for the throne, he was still a useful asset. Vilyric’s tactics had undoubtedly helped quite a bit.

However, Plakaka’s statement that “that prince does not plan to come over for now; when the time is right, he will meet you. Please wait patiently” left Liliya somewhat disappointed, as she had been eagerly anticipating their reunion.

Without Vilyric around, Liliya couldn’t make such a bold move to find her during this sensitive time. Besides, with that guy’s capabilities, if he genuinely wanted to hide, a regular person like herself could never find him.

*Sigh… I wonder what Vilyric is doing now. She wouldn’t have picked up a few new lovers on the way and abandoned me, would she? After all, she’s so beautiful, capable, and reliable; it’s hard not to fall for her at first sight…*

*Girls… I can deal with that, but please let it not be a man!*

The princess plopped her head on the desk, sighing over the half-finished documents, looking like a deserted wife pouting about her husband, quite a contrast to her usual commanding presence as a leader.

However, in this bedroom, she was alone, with excellent sound insulation while the surroundings were guarded by layers of shadows, ensuring that even a legendary strongman wouldn’t be able to intrude easily, let alone sneak in quietly.

So, this pose was unseen by anyone.

Or it should have been.

“What do you mean, don’t let it be a man? Has Liliya got her eye on some guy?”

“Eek!!”

Startled by the sudden clear female voice, the princess jumped straight out of her chair.

Her gaze met the white-robed woman suddenly appearing on the other side of the desk, the stunning silvery-blue eyes locking onto her.

“Who, who are you!?”

Liliya exclaimed in shock, not caring about her embarrassment, reaching for the long sword’s hilt that was just beside her and instantly focusing her sharp gaze on the black-haired girl. The mysterious power taught and bestowed upon her by Vilyric surged within her.

Air swirled around the delicate body of the princess, lifting the light blue hair that had been gathered by her crown, though she remained calm enough and did not strike hastily.

“I don’t know who you are or how you got in, but intruding into a princess’s chamber is a grave offense. You better think carefully before you act.”

This girl was very pretty, not worse off than the one Liliya had always admired, and she wore a white robe with black hair, but Liliya was sure that this person was not Vilyric.

She wasn’t quite sure why she made that judgment, but it felt instinctively right.

While she warned casually, Liliya had already used a special magical item to notify the legendary adventurer, Fiery Blossom, who was currently residing in the Mingluan Palace, safeguarding her given the unpredictable situation.

Though Plakaka, the ratman Vilyric had sent, was also legendary, he was at least male and had once been the seventh champion of that organization. Liliya, at the end of the day, hadn’t fully trusted him, and Vilyric herself had advised against complete trust.

So at this point, she hadn’t alerted him, instead opting to call for Hua.

This woman could approach her silently and without detection, surely not an easy character; she might be a legendary master as well.

To confront a legendary opponent alone was probably too much for her. In fact, Liliya had already tested it; if Hua truly exerted her full power, she wouldn’t be able to withstand even a single arrow, and that time had triggered the protection of the Ascending Box.

“Ah? Oh right… *cough cough!*”

The mysterious girl seemed to freeze for a moment before quickly reacting, her expression shifting subtly, creating a strange sense of familiarity in the princess, as if she had seen this kind of playful smirk somewhere before.

But Liliya was certain that she didn’t recognize this person in front of her.

“Hehe, actually, I’m a professional hired by a certain boss to take your life, your Highness. I advise you not to resist for no reason; just lie down… cough, patiently wait for death; it would be better for everyone.”

With that, the seemingly beautiful and pure girl put on a mockingly evil smile like a dark overlord.

But… it felt odd. Seeing her like this, Liliya somehow couldn’t muster the same alarm she felt at first.

She wasn’t unfamiliar with assassins hired by others, some of whom were even legendary masters, yet never had any of them leisurely chatted and wasted time before making a move, especially revealing their identity beforehand.

It just felt like this woman didn’t seem too smart?
