Chapter 105

Chapter 46: You Can’t Be That, Right? (Extra Update)

Grand, magnificent.

This was Miss Vilyric’s first impression upon stepping into the Adventurers’ Guild.

It’s just so massive! In the main hall alone, Vilyric spotted around a hundred counters operating simultaneously.

Even so, long queues formed in front of every counter, with young and beautiful receptionists too busy to spare a moment.

Including adventurers, staff, and clients, there were probably thousands—if not nearly ten thousand—people crammed into this space.

Truly the headquarters of all adventurers in the world. Though it may sound a bit harsh, the Adventurers’ Guild in Flame Dragon City looked like a dilapidated shack compared to this place.

Just seconds after Vilyric and Xiao Guang walked into the hall, still glancing around to find a less crowded spot, a receptionist in work attire rushed over from the staff area.

“Good afternoon, ladies! It seems this is your first time at the City of Courage Adventurers’ Guild, right? I’m Rebecca, the guild’s receptionist. How may I assist you?”

“Uh…?”

Vilyric was taken aback by the enthusiastic demeanor and bright smile. It took her a moment to recover, and she quickly pulled out the adventurer identification badges for herself and Little Dragon Daughter and handed them over.

“Well, it’s not a particularly big deal… just heard about this place’s reputation and thought since we’re in the royal capital, we should take a look and see if there are any interesting quests available. By the way, how did you know it was our first time?”

A flash of surprise crossed Miss Rebecca’s face—a reaction that could be due to seeing Vilyric’s ability to do magic or her noble appearance as she dared to become an adventurer.

But the friendly receptionist casually tucked back a few strands of her dark blue hair, took their identification with both hands, and gave it a brief glance.

“Both are Mithril-level adventurers… How about this? Let me take you to verify your records first, and then we can chat more slowly. Oh, and as for how I knew it was your first time, well, it’s simple—I haven’t seen you two before.”

“…?”

Large question marks popped up on Vilyric’s forehead.

What does it mean that she hasn’t seen them before? The City of Courage has a population in the millions! Could Rebecca actually remember every face and name of those living here? Isn’t that a bit outrageous!?

As if she could read Vilyric’s bizarre expression, the blue-haired receptionist immediately began to clarify.

“Haha, please don’t get me wrong. I have decent memory, but there’s no way I could remember every resident in the city! However, the same familiar faces frequent this place, and since I handle the reception every day, I basically know everyone. Spotting unfamiliar faces naturally leads to guesses.”

Meow meow meow? How can this girl nonchalantly say such absurd things!?

What do you mean by ‘the same people come and go’? From what Vilyric could see, there are nearly ten thousand here! There must be over a hundred thousand regulars passing through! Is your brain some kind of electronic calculator?

However, Rebecca seemed uninterested in lingering on this topic, promptly stepping aside to gesture for them to follow.

“Well then, ladies, please follow me.”

Though still a bit curious, Vilyric wasn’t the type to make a fuss over things. Since Rebecca changed the subject, she sensibly decided not to press for more details and followed along with Xiao Guang.

For some reason, Rebecca didn’t take them to line up at a counter, but led them straight to a table marked “Private,” which was completely vacant. She pulled out two chairs to indicate they should sit before heading to the back of the counter.

“Please wait a moment; I will retrieve the relevant information from your badges shortly.”

Rebecca pulled out a silver square device from under the table and placed Vilyric’s Mithril-level badge into the slot. A buzzing sound followed, and after about ten seconds, a paper sheet slowly emerged from the device.

This is… a storage and printing function?

Holy moly, how high-tech is this? Didn’t they say this is a medieval fantasy world?

At that moment, Vilyric suddenly remembered the fragmented memories concerning the Blood Clan Duchess Afra she had seen in the bat brooch from the Defiled Cocoon, along with that “Divine Remnant” laboratory.

Perhaps that technology not belonging to this era didn’t completely vanish with the fall of the Glorious City, and some remnants lingered.

For instance, the batch of protective gear once ordered by Flame Dragon City and this information storage printer at the Adventurers’ Guild of Courage.

Makes sense, but why would the so-called divine remnants be such advanced technology? Does God enjoy working on scientific developments?

And why has everything else vanished without a trace, leaving behind just a handful of these tech toys?

Vilyric also thought back to what the Turtle God Nasarion had mentioned in the Black River of the Beast Kingdom—about the Demon God Olivya.

From the still-dusty [Demon God Gem (Fragment)] in her backpack and the old tortoise’s description, it seems the Demon God is likely a pure mage type with no history of messing around with high-tech gadgets.

Can’t understand it, could it be that this tech isn’t even a divine remnant, but rather relics of something else, simply misattributed?

Forget it, the information is too fragmented right now; anything I guess is just speculation.

After all, I simply haven’t traveled enough. Once the matters in the royal capital settle down, I should probably take a look around other nations.

Meanwhile, Rebecca pulled the same stunt and obtained a paper detailing Xiao Guang’s information to compare with Vilyric’s. After examining both for quite some time, her pretty brows furrowed tightly.

“Registered just over a month ago, with the registration place being the Adventurers’ Guild in Flame Dragon City. First test level set at Mithril, and so far, you’ve completed only one task in Flame Dragon City. Your current level is… Ink Steel?”

The receptionist raised her head and looked strangely at the two girls on the other side of the counter.

“Miss Vilyric, you two…”

“Eh? I’m Ink Steel now? What’s up with that?”

The Priestess also entered a confused state.

Ever since she and Xiao Guang completed the task given by Nastaia in Flame Dragon City, they hadn’t encountered anything interesting in the other cities along their journey and had just passed through. Naturally, they never returned to the local Adventurers’ Guild.

She had always thought she and Xiao Guang were still Mithril-level. How did they accidentally jump up two levels?

“Well… according to the records, the only task you completed was highly rated by the second-order Earl, Nastaia. Based on the completion level and the task’s difficulty, you were promoted two levels as an exception.”

At this point, Rebecca suddenly leaned her head slightly, cautiously probing.

“You two, you can’t possibly be related to that noble, right?”

The receptionist made a gesture that Vilyric couldn’t understand, before suddenly realizing something and awkwardly retracting it, leaving her with a face full of question marks.

“So what is it?”

“N-no, nothing at all! Uh, you’re here to take on a new quest, right? Being an Ink Steel-level adventurer grants you some pretty nice privileges. Here’s the quest catalog; feel free to browse!”

Staring at Rebecca’s flustered, red face for a moment, the Priestess felt a bit suspicious but ultimately chose not to press the issue further and reached out to take the catalog being offered.

Perhaps it’s just some unique trending culture in the royal capital? Probably doesn’t hold any special meaning?
